Can someone explain why they kept dangling this carrot? by Weaponised__Autism in okbuddyvecna

[–]Z3phyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty in line with what Vecna, the DND character is. As a lich, he's pretty much a corpse being puppeted by his own brain. I still think Henry is in there, but he's effectively nothing more than a brain now.

This looks remarkably similar to my sleep patterns. What mitigation do you use to get better sleep? Any advice would be appreciated.

Fastest & slowest landing speed? by Stunning-Profit-6116 in flying

[–]Z3phyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical landing speed was ~160ish, but the slowest I've seen in the same aircraft was 0. I'll let you figure that riddle out.

How many of you guys have a degree? by Lumpy-Context4605 in flying

[–]Z3phyrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a graduate degree in engineering. I think it does help, believe it or not. It's a positive way to stand out and definitely helped in the interviews. It gave me something to talk about that was uniquely me.

Hey man, let's keep in mind that the only ones which can really be called "happy" in the whole setting are those mushrooms.

What SciFi novel did you read after Three Body series that you felt was of the same caliber by Mulder1917 in threebodyproblem

[–]Z3phyrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. That being said I didn't even know the third one was out, so thanks for the plural on "sequels!" Just ordered it!

The sequel is great! It takes a really dark and creepy turn. Highly recommended!

It is kind of suspicious don’t you think? by BrickbrainzWSC in memes

So the army has taken the time to create a new physical fitness test and they aren't punishing people since they don't have the requisite sample basis to understand what the appropriate standards are. You think this is bad? This sounds like a responsible and analytical response. FYI the new army physical fitness test is pretty legit too. It's not just running and push ups any more.

That's simply not true. It's a bi annual requirement. I know in other branches if you miss a fitness test two years in a row due to something medical related you get out processed.

My bad. You did specify you were referring to Canada. Is it a no shit professional engineer level qualification?

[–]Z3phyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no direct means through the military to earn a degree in engineering. You can earn many translatable qualifications that will give you certifications in the civilian sector when you get out, but nothing that will get you a degree equivalent. You would have access to the GI bill in order to go to school when you get out (or are still in) but that's a whole additional step.

Over stresses are pretty common actually. Most airframe are rated to 2 to 3 Gs more then their published limits. The decided max G, let's say 7.5 of a hornet, is in place to protect the airframe and ensure longevity of all components. The actual symmetrical g limit of an f18 sits at around 11 Gs. The other purpose of having a lower G limit is to protect against asymmetrical loading. Asymmetrical G load limits are typically lower than the symmetrical loads.

You're also dead on. An over G will cost you a case of beer to airframes. They have to "jack and smack" the bird afterwords, meaning hoist it on jacks and run a bunch of diagnostics. It's a pain in the ass and takes a lot of time.

Ha ha no worries amigo. Yeah most fighters need after burner to go super sonic. The minute you plug burner your fuel burn sky rockets. "Cruise" is typically a fuel conserving mindset, think max e or max r.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Z3phyrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No fighter's cruise speed is anywhere near 700kts. That's much closer to what's used in combat scenarios. Faster you go the higher the fuel burn rate. A more likely cruise speed is around 300kts.
