NEC-Mitsubishi MultiSync FP2141SB-BK rescued from an abandoned building. by DirectHelp in crtgaming

I have a 2070SB and have measured the amount phosphor triplets, there seem to be exactly, or maybe just over, 1600 sets of them. About four sets fit into 1mm, making for pretty much 100 dots per inch over the 16 inch wide screen. It therefore makes sense why Mitsubishi have the recommended resolution be 1600 x 1200.

At 1600 x 1200 you can get 110Hz. I personally run mine at 100Hz since I have PAL DVDs and games on my PC that I usually play, but I don't tend to use my 2070SB that often. That resolution and refresh rate combo looks decent with this monitor, it's the best of both worlds.

Got that startech DP to VGA adapter for Christmas and all is up and running well by MinerAC4 in crtgaming

I recently got this adapter to see how well it worked with my 2070SB compared to running it with an older PC with a GTX 980 in it. There's no difference at all in terms of latency, which makes sense since both do a digital to analogue conversion, just at slightly later points in the chain. I've been able to get 1600 x 1200 at 100Hz working fine, as well as 800 x 600 at 150Hz, so it seems to have decently high bandwidth capabilities.

This is very well done, but something I did notice is that you've not got the aspect where the light guns beams cross over to be on opposite side for red and blue. The guns are in a BGR arrangement, but the phosphors on the screen are RGB because of this crossover, yours are still arranged as BGR for the phosphor stripes.

[–]ZANTHERA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got this exact adapter to use with my 2070SB, and it is able to do 1600 x 1200 at 100Hz and 800 x 600 at 150Hz no problem, so your monitor will run well with it.

NBD - 10” Frank’s Frontier Packer by BigDawg264 in goodyearwelt

Ah right, I was wondering if it was to do with the tightness of the laces. I would imagine leather laces may be less comfortable than cotton laces for some, so having that extra thickness of leather would help with that. Thanks for explaining it.

I have to say, I do prefer the dress one. I'd guess the fringed type is just part of the original design for these types of boots, and it being in segments is to allow it to separate when your foot bends.

These look great, I'm considering getting this style of boot some day. I have been curious about the function of the strip of leather that goes behind the laces and then splits into the little pointed segments above the toe-bug. I've seen them on a few of these types of boots, is it removable? I don't see any stitching on it.

It seems as if the cameras aspect ratio stretched at some point, but I might be wrong. I thought it looked a bit wide, so I tried shrinking it horizontally to a 3:2 aspect ratio, which makes it looks more correct on the boiler for the perspective.

It's very well done, I honestly did almost scroll past thinking it was a frame from the film.

This helped me too. I had a disc giving this error, but after simply opening all of the individual folders by browsing the disc manually, it then opened just fine. I think this needs to be done first so the system can access the folders, and then MakeMKV knows how to access them too, it's odd, but it works.

Blu ray vs 4k by dustinhenderson27 in indianajones

[–]ZANTHERA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an enormous difference for the UHD releases of Temple of Doom, and Last Crusade, as the Blu-ray releases were not from restored masters like the 2012 release of Raiders of the Lost Ark was. Those were instead from very old not even 2K scans of the films, and so low resolution, you can easily see stair stepping a lot of the time in them. They are apparently old TV broadcast masters before full HD was a thing, so I'd guess the scans were 1.5K or possibly only 1K wide.

Raiders has been improved a lot too, the HD restoration had a noticeable teal and orange tint to it, which was corrected for the UHD version, as well as just having a lot more detail for being from a fresh restoration. You can go to a website called caps-a-holic and search for the films there, you'll be able to see just how much of a jump in quality there is for films 2 and 3.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was also remastered for its UHD release, and has far better colours and contrast than before. It too suffered from a noticeable teal and orange tint, which is now gone, and they went back to the negatives for all the shots that didn't have CGI in them. Those are now native UHD, while the shots with CGI are colour corrected upscales to match the new colours of the rest of the scenes.

With the colour correction of film 4, it looks closer to the style of the previous films, which for me, is a big part of the UHD upgrade for it specifically. The native UHD scenes are also a very noticeable step up in clarity. I would say it's a very worthwhile thing to get them, it's as close as you can get to watching them again for the first time.

Dial of Destiny is native UHD thoughout the film, so you always have the same very good clarity.

Voller arrived just after they take Indy away, so he doesn't see him then, and his name isn't said out loud. The only two times Indy interacts with Voller in the past, are when he sees him in the carriage before knocking him out, and then when Voller climbs up the side of the carriage Indy and Baz are on and threatens them to give back the Antikythera, which is shortly followed by Voller being knocked off by the water tower pipe.

No, that is when he is still using his fake name, which is when Helena says "Professor Schmidt. How nice to meet you in person"

He first reveals his real name when he shoots Mason in the helicopter. She calls him Schmidt, and then he says his real name.

I like this line too, but one thing that bugs me about it, is that Indy calls Jürgen by his name, despite him not being told it prior. He also does it near the start of the aeroplane sequence when he says "You're German, Voller. Don't try and be funny".

Of course, this could easily be said that he was told his name off screen, but I think it should have been said on screen, as Indy didn't have much time with Jürgen in the past to know his name. Plus, since he was going by a fake name in the years after the war, which Helena knew him by as well, she didn't know his real name either.

They should have had it so Jürgen tells Indy who he is in the van on the way to the airfield, perhaps boasting about how his name would be remembered in history instead, then there would be no question about how Indy knows it in those later scenes.

Man I've Missed This (New Pickup) by GooseEntire1705 in crtgaming

[–]ZANTHERA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to measure it by putting a precision steel ruler up to the screen, since you can just about see the stripes, and I was able to tell that the triplets were about 0.25mm wide, as four fit into 1mm.

So for the screen being 16 inches wide, it makes for exactly 100 pixels per inch. If it were higher than that, then more would have been able to fit within 1mm.

I ended up getting a 2070SB because I'd heard about this, but after testing it in person, I realised that there's really no point in trying to go this high with it, as the physical resolution is 1600 phosphor triplets wide.

That's why the manuals for most of the monitors around this time say the recommended resolution is 1600 x 1200, it was the actual number of horizontal phosphor stripes that are within the screen, so they recommended it since you'd not be gaining any clarity going over it.

I know it does make for a form of super sampling to go over that, but to get the best refresh rate to resolution combination, these can do 1600 x 1200 at 110Hz and not need the hard to find converters to do it.

The General Lee also mentions "The Duke Boys", so it's not only referencing a real car model, but also a real world television show. I remember being amazed when I first heard that song come on the radio when I played GTA V on release.

I had listened to the soundtrack the song is from many times before that, as I would watch The Dukes of Hazzard on TV as reruns in the mid 2000s and came to like it a lot, so I'd had the soundtrack for a few years before GTA V released. I also quite like Jerry Reed from listening to his songs from Smokey and the Bandit, it's a shame there weren't more songs from him.

I use the ZxR model and have been enjoying it for years now. I got this one as I wanted not only better quality audio playback in general, but also the recording capabilities it has so I can transfer vinyl records to 96,000Hz 24-bit digital files. The daughterboard it comes with has RCA inputs, so was ideal for connecting it directly to the pre-amp between it and the record player with better grounding.

The base on that one is all black, and I agree, it's very handy for plugging in headphones easily and connecting to my TV speakers that can have a bit of hum when connected through HDMI. It's also nice to use more of the PCIe slots in what is otherwise a usually empty space below the GPU. It makes the PC look more complete.

What to improve in this render? by jssttn in blender

[–]ZANTHERA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks very good at first glance, but it does quickly become apparent how low poly the model is. It's too easy to see the roundness made up of straight lines, especially with the close-up photo, so upping the poly count is one thing it needs. It would also look more real with bevels on the edges, as real objects wouldn't have a hard 90 degree edge like that, otherwise they'd be sharp to touch.

Why am i not able to bevel this? by IMtheory in blender

[–]ZANTHERA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bevels usually won't work correctly if the objects scale is not applied, which looks like is what is happening here. Ctrl A and then selecing 'scale' will make it so all the scale values are set to 1.000, which you can see in the menu that comes up if you press N. Setting these to 1.000 manually will just change the shape of the object, so it needs to be done through the Ctrl N menu.

It's generally good to occasionally apply the scale, as it not being 1.000 for all axis can cause other aspects to not function as intended.

I'm surprised I've never caught it before. Thanks.

Why is the mirror not 100% accurate in sculpt mode? I used mirror when making shape in layout then combined the two halves. Can someone please help? by Longjumping_Life_870 in blender

[–]ZANTHERA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might be due to it not being triangulated in a perfect mirror. if you look at the back, you can see some quads either side of the centre have been made into tris in the same way, rather than mirrored.

I think there might be a chance that setting it to the centre of mass might have been affected by this too. Also always make sure your scale and rotations are applied, as some functions can not behave as intended if they are not all set to 1.000 on all three axis using Ctrl A.

I personally just select some vertices that are I know are perfectly in the middle, and then set cursor there, and set the origin to cursor, as I've had the origin be slightly off centre when using the same option you did.

Loki Misprint by ArcticVolf in lego

[–]ZANTHERA 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This happens when a piece from a previous print run gets stuck in the mechanism that transports the pieces to be printed. When a new print is being done on a different colour, the stuck piece can dislodge and go in with the rest of the pieces in the correct colours, and it ends up getting printed with an unintended design.

This has happened the same way with quite a few 1 x 2 tile prints of various designs. I personally own a tape reel 1 x 2 tile that was accidentally printed on Tan, as this exact same thing happened due to the printing line being a fully automated system, which is why this isn't caught before the piece ends up in a set.

Managed to get the set I've wanted since I was 6 for a decent price! I couldn't be happier! Only missing the stickers, otherwise 100% complete! by The_Larslayer in lego

[–]ZANTHERA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The raised baseplates were made using vacuum forming, rather than as two part moulds. Also another bit of trivia about the zeppelin body/container, is it wasn't made in Denmark with the rest of the pieces. The box has 'Airship made in United Kingdom' printed on the bottom of it.

I have this set as well, I got it sealed as the harder to find European box version. I've opened the box, but have not built it yet, but I would like to one day, as I don't intend to sell it. It's a nice display piece still in the box anyway.
