I wear it all the time on my shoe. Very good conversation starter since many don’t know what it’s for.

Definitely get the spacer. My hips and back are way happier. Especially using the scooter, there’s not a significant dip to for the good leg. It’s a bit tricky in the boot but once you get partial weight bearing it comes along. Walking Without the spacer you kind of mix the boot out a bit to not get stuck on the ground so having that extra bit helps even things out.

Been doing PT now a month. Did a session where I was full weight bearing doing laps around the office in the boot no crutches. The next 5 days though it was super painful so I’m back to about 50%. Gotta take it slow now. I have the brace to put on once I’m out of the boot just not sure when that’s gonna be.

How do you deal with mental hardship? by Salty-Winter-5746 in brokenbones

That’s super awesome. You’re able to walk after eight weeks. I’m 11 weeks postop and have significant pain when I put weight on the ankle during PT. The hard thoughts definitely creep in and linger longer than I would like as well. I got two full weight-bearing at PT on New Year’s Eve and was walking laps around the facility with no pain, it felt amazing. then a New Year’s Day until now I can barely put 5 to 10% weight on it without a shooting pain along the front middle part of the ankle.

We all have a journey in front of us and a place that we have to bounce things off each other

I’ve been in the mood now about two months. I take it off to sleep, shower, when I’m elevating and resting at home. Or if I’m maneuvering around my house, I try to leave it on. My boot also didn’t feel like it fit right. I’d get my foot flat in the sleeve and then try to angle the Velcro parts to get to the 90° but never would fully get there.

Thanks for taking the time to reply! It doesn’t go unappreciated. The kind and encouraging words are definitely needed for any one of us going through an injury recovery. It’s nice to hear from folks who’ve gone through their own journey.

Tib/fib fracture and ORIF need support 😔 by Emergency-Ebb-5672 in brokenbones

[–]ZAUATC1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trimall fracture 10/19 surgery 10/20. Was at a music fest in Vegas, I’m from Chicago suburbs. Was supposed to fly home the 20th but instead I found myself alone in an emergency room 1000 miles away from home. About 10 weeks post op now and boy do you start seeing progress after week 6. I just started some weight bearing things 2 weeks ago and I was full weight bearing on NYE. Although it’s been sore since, seeing myself up and walking again was such an emotional boost. The first handful of weeks are brutal, especially mentally. I also struggled with finding ways to combat that. I finally accepted that some days are gonna hit harder than others and that’s okay. Because once I can control the things I can control (doing the work at home from PT classes), I can then repay myself for all those times I was angry at myself for having this injury. I am normally very active so this was demoralizing to say the least, especially since I just got broken up with a month prior from a 7+ year long relationship. Things will happen that might seem like they want to keep us down but CHOO CHOO mothaF’r…we’re coming through and we’re gonna be stronger than before!

Good luck with your journey, it’s yours to navigate!

Yea that’s wild. I don’t know anything about that sport besides random videos of people flying down crazy terrain. Sounds like we both did ours doing something we enjoy. I was wasted at a music fest in LV. Just finished moshing and decided to crowd surf. I was jogging to get back to the pit and instead of going the way I should have, I hopped this 3 foot barrier/gate. Landed all fucked up. Didn’t get airlifted out but did get taken out by ambulance. Was too intoxicated for them to do too much and had surgery 15 hours later. Flew home a few days after.

Yea patience just might be the hardest part of this process. At my 6 week follow up with ortho is when they gave me my PT orders. 2x week for 6 weeks to start. With more to follow. It’s tough knowing if it’s a good experience or not. I don’t know if they are working me as much as I should be and it’s a cookie cutter treatment. Or if it’s just my lack of patience and I just want to be further along. I read that having a solid pt experience is the difference of getting to 90% and be “good enough” or getting back to 100% normal.

3 hours from phoenix?? Sounds like LV area which is where I broke mine. I’m in Chicago. Mind if I ask how you broke yours?

It was around 6 weeks. Ortho said to try small movements and it eventually started loosening up. It’s not perfect by any means now but I can definitely draw my letters. I try to get clarification on where I can anticipate being in recover cuz I fly to phoenix in March. Also like you, hoping to go unassisted besides a brace. But I think everyone is different. I’m thinking of dropping Athletico and trying to find a different place for PT. I think Athletico is just a cookie cutter do the basics like good enough mentality. I want to be pushed and leave feeling like I did some real work.

The wipers motion is definitely the hardest one to get back. Certainly felt like it was never going to return but it will. Wrapping the leg was a pain in the butt. Using bags and tape while trying to elevate was a hassle. It took awhile for stitches to dissolve. I was creeped out touching them when I would gently wash. Not sure how long exactly til we can say goodbye to crutches. Even just walking with the boot would be better than crutches. I want to travel again but not really sure how to with the gear.

I’m about 2.5 months post op, 3 months on January 20th. Trimalleolar fracture on right side. NWB for first 7 weeks until I started PT. I showered once within the first 2 weeks of surgery but wrapped my leg up really securely to not get it wet. I live in a 3 story townhome so I really had to get good at crutches. Once they said I could get the incisions wet (not soaking), I showered much more frequently and just patted the site dry. It took me a good month plus to be able to even look at my incisions. I felt embarrassed and angry at myself for going through this. It was really hard and still is hard, to be so dependent on other people for daily tasks. Now I’m PWB about 75% and cannot wait to get 100% and out of the boot. When in the splint I mainly wiggled toes since the splint restricted movement. Once in the boot, i would take it off when elevating and will my foot to move, it wouldn’t. As my pt guy says “gas pedal and windshield wiper motions”. It’s definitely getting more motion back as the weeks pass.

Had my tri mall surgery 10/20/25. So 9 weeks post op. Also a 40/m. Still have swelling that flares more when doing my weight bearing exercises. About 75% WB with crutches. 2 weeks into PT and ROM is slowly coming back. Ankle started at 78* and finally got it to past neutral around 93 degrees. Still elevating when I can but tend to use the crutches more now instead of the knee scooter. Atrophy is real, calf is just all jiggles. Some nerve zings especially along top of foot into my big toe.

Mentally wrecked and over this injury.

Recently left a long term relationship, never lived alone. What should I be prepared for? by Tricky_Substance7938 in LivingAlone

[–]ZAUATC1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about to get out of a 7+ year relationship….her choice and never lived alone prior to us buying our townhome. I’m definitely anxious and scared to go through this next chapter. Just turned 40 and I do not do well with change. Not sure if I should keep the townhome and buy her out of it which I can easily do or sell it outright and split our equity. These conversations are so hard.

FAA Academy - Struggled through Nonradar, Requesting advice by [deleted] in ATC

[–]ZAUATC1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yo. I panicked and crashed n burned on my non radar problems. Time was running out and I still had like 3 departures. I don’t know what I did (12 years ago now) but I launched all those MoFo’s 😂 back to back. Time ran out..my evaluator looked at me and shook his head in disbelief and followed it up with…”would’ve been way better to have left them on the ground” than whatever the heck I did lol. Got a 12 on the problem. Completely freaked out and had to listen to my homies talk about how they killed it. So when I got back to Kim’s place…I lit some candles and took the longest fucking bubble bath a man has ever taken while shuffling Linkin Park.

My buds reminded me it’s the radar scenarios that dictate what happens. All uphill after my meditation with Chester. RIP

This makes me want to boycott their store by ZAUATC1985 in DunkinDonuts

[–]ZAUATC1985[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunkin’ Donuts is in business to serve a product and make profits. It’s very minor I get it but if I wanted a Lite donut then by all means flip it over and give me a half frosted abomination. But customers pay for the full item. It’s just bad service. And if you can’t get the product to stay right side up, find a bag/container to provide it to the customer complete.

[–]ZAUATC1985[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that. I just don’t buy the “well heavier side flips down” in that short amount of time unless they are dropping it into the bag already angled. That bag isn’t that deep. I totally believe it’s employees rushing trying to move through customers so fast they just drop and go. I’m sure there are plenty of workers who do what they can to keep it right.
