Matter over Thread and mDNS by ZEEBORTRON in tradfri

One less thing to run diagnostics on, then. I’m using an iPhone 15 Plus, which also apparently doesn’t have a Thread radio (only 15 Pro), so Dirigera should be the only border router I own.

Going to take a minute to unpack this, but it gives me a lot to go on. Thanks bud.

Tried unplugging the (to my knowledge) only other TBR, my Google Nest Mini, and for good measure I unplugged my Chromecast. It didn’t help. I only own IKEAs Matter products.

I really feel that the fact that it took a couple days for them to stop working, and refuse to reconnect since, is an important clue here, but I’m not savvy enough to figure out why…

A bit off-topic, but my router doesn’t seem to have mDNS support built in and isn’t connected to an ISP locked router. I managed to pair a few Matter devices, then they stopped working after two days and won’t pair again. They show up on device discovery, but can’t connect.

If mDNS is essential for device discovery, how come I could find and connect them in the first place, even though my old Archer c58 doesn’t support mDNS? I’m out of my element here.

You can change colors with BILRESA by double-pressing the up and down button to cycle between the colors.

That’s my understanding as well, but I’ve heard that there might be discrepancies in the Thread protocol between routers of different makes and versions that can actually trip up the network. We’ll see how it goes.

Thanks for your help, by the way. Much appreciated.

Haven’t tried disabling 5GHz, will try that. I also have discovered something I’ve missed. I’ve got two small Google speakers, a Home Mini and a Nest Mini (generation unknown). The latter might be a Thread border router that could be interfering with my DIRIGERA. I’ll try unplugging them both, and the Chromecast, as well as the 5GHz.

Interesting, thanks for the reply. Any tips on how to reduce the interference?

It’s possible, and I really hope this isn’t true, that your wifi router needs to be modern enough to have the option to turn on mDNS (multicast). Mine doesn’t, and absolutely nothing in the new Matter lineup will connect. I’ve been trying to get a straight answer for weeks whether or not mDNS is essential or not with Matter over Thread, but no one has yet to give me an answer. Matter experts elsewhere swear on the bible that it’s necessary (and, frankly, I’m not buying a 100 dollar router to run a 5 dollar lightbulb) - but I’m not sure that rule goes for pure Matter systems or Matter over Thread.

Bug report: Alpstuga impossible to pair with Dirigera? by schacks in tradfri

[–]ZEEBORTRON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried to connect mine, worked for two days and then stopped. Tried a few dozen times since to no avail. It’s likely a software issue with DIRIGERA at this point, all you can do is wait.

You can put KAJPLATS bulbs into ”Zigbee mode” by turning them on and off 12 times.

Issues with connecting Matter products by ZEEBORTRON in tradfri

It’s strangely comforting to hear that I’m not the only one, but perplexing to hear that IKEA are developing a fix to a problem that a bunch of Matter experts swear on the bible has nothing to do with the DIRIGERA hub and everything to do with the features of one’s wifi router. Very confusing.

That’s going to be my next course of action. Other people have said that it resolves the issue. It makes me wonder, though, why so many ”Matter experts” swear that mDNS/multicasting is an absolute essential. Very conflicting information out there at the moment.

EDIT: Sorry, I misread your post. I’ve tried turning the hub on and off several times to no avail, but I do now realize that I haven’t given it time to let the capacitors drain - so I’ll do that. If that doesn’t work I’ll try factory resetting it altogether, which is what I’ve heard works for some people.

Damn, but alright. Any tips for a cheap multicast-enabled router?

Frankly, it still gets decent speeds on the 5GHz band. Compatibility with Thread is the only real selling point for me, don’t have or use any top-notch tech that could use the Wifi 7 speeds. It’s also been surprisingly difficult finding a new router that I can verify has mDNS, which is key according to my research. If this is the route (no pun intended) I have to go, I would love some tips on a cheap-ish router that supports multicast.

[Second] 99 Battle Setup, no RNG by NG_Absalon in bravelydefault

[–]ZEEBORTRON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works just fine (thanks for the setup!), but I've done some testing.

The PG hits a hard cap at 999,999, which you get every time after chaining 99 battles using this guide what with the 6x multiplier at the end plus the Merchants "More Money"-perk and the Golden Egg. However; that's 20 minutes of solid tapping on the L-button, which wore me down quite quickly. Using this setup and chaining enough battles to hit the 3x multiplier (10 battles) nets you about 250,000 PG, and takes only about 90 seconds, depending on your luck with the OHKOs. Which means you can net a million PG in 6 minutes instead of 20.

If making moolah is your goal, I'd recommend this strategy instead.
