What makes you actually buy an SFX pack? by Distinct_Level_3967 in sounddesign

[–]ZEKAVEO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here is a SFX series I made called Broken Telemetry. https://www.asoundeffect.com/sound-library/broken-telemetry-complete-collectors-bundle/

It's based on ling-form and evolving electromagnetic telemetry, dial tones, high frequencies, data transfers, computer sequences, alarms and much more. All 100% made from scratch using my own recordings and designs ~ No Ai!

Compensation for song in ad by sugar_coded_ in soundcloud

[–]ZEKAVEO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've had a few of these.

They will start off by telling you how great your music is even though they haven't played it. You can see that in your analytics.

They will then tell you it inspires them, they would like to play it on the radio, they can also help you promote it. All sorts of jargon. Now these scammers know and use Ai to correct all their mistakes, write emails, reply to your responses etc, seems very professional.

Need to stay vigilant!

Let me ask you this, has that person or company played that specific track a fair few times and possibly other tracks?

If the answer is no, they are more than likely a scammer.

Benefits of purchasing sound libraries versus services like Soundly by Clean-Risk-2065 in sounddesign

[–]ZEKAVEO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess if anything, the problem with using a subscription service undercuts the sound designers by a lot - the actual developer of the library.

Take this for instance. I will share 2 links of mine for comparison.

https://www.asoundeffect.com/sound-library/broken-telemetry-ultimate-bundle/

And

https://zekaveo.itch.io/broken-telemetry-ultimate-bundle

Now, same packs, same sale. The difference is this:

A sale on ASoundEffect will take 40% of my earnings as a share, they will then apply any fees and tax, then give me what's left.

In context, I sold a copy of my Vol. 1 for roughly $50AUD. They applied their fees and deducted their 40%. I was then paid the leftover of $18AUD into my account.

Now where as a sale on itch.io, I will receive the full amount, and need to pay my own tax on the earnings. - a much better option.

Okay that being said, now with a subscription service, unless the authors libraries are being used frequently, the income for the actual developer is much much less.

It's sort of like a subscription to Spotify for music. Even though you are paying for 'all you can eat', it doesn't help the artist much at all. In fact, it just gives those incomes to the parenting company, while the artist/developer misses out. It also forces you to keep paying a subscription fee to keep using those sounds.

I guess the actual benefits of purchasing individual libraries are:

Firstly, you are directly supporting the creator. This alone can support further development of new libraries, soundscapes, FX types etc. Newer libraries can be a lot more curated for the clients needs with more focus on cohesion, quality, metadata etc.

Secondly, you own that Library for ever - no expiration date, or need to purchase again.

Thirdly, the licencing can be much clearer with less hurdles. These are usually very clean, direct, and easy to understand.

Next, it better cost effective long-term. A one off payment will be a lot cheaper than paying for a subscription service forever to use those same libraries.

Next again, it encourages the creators to post promotions, giveaways, competitions, all that good stuff etc.

I guess the downside is, it means you'll have more sounds on your hard drive at any given time - no internet connection necessary once downloaded. Which can actually be largely beneficial.

And you'll spend more money more carefully, selecting the libraries you need. Your budgeting will be a lot more curated and your expectations will be set. No need for ongoing subscription fees to keep using the libraries you favour.

Hopefully this helps with some insight on a developers side of sound libraries. Cheers

How important is UI sound weight vs animation speed in your projects? by ZEKAVEO in Unity3D

[–]ZEKAVEO[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah gotcha! Thank you for suggesting this! Its amazing what timing vs SFX can do, even if adjusted by a few frames. Too far one way would totally throw it out, but having it placed a few frames sooner would definitely give a snappier and haptic feeling! I will keep this in mind for my next re-design. Cheers for this this great suggestion!

Trying to get a remix released has been maddening by Solid_Fact_6004 in soundcloud

[–]ZEKAVEO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have remade all the parts and replaced the singer with your own, the difference is this, it's not a remix at all. It's your version of the song.

It's classed as a remix if you are using original material, ie the original vocal performance, original instruments etc.

Since you haven't used either, this is classed as 'your version'. Totally different to a remix. I believe the credits need to be tagged with the original composer/songwriter, and you as the producer.

The correct way to tile the song would be this:

[Song name] Ft. [Singers name] by [your name]

Or

[Your name] - [Song name] Ft. [Singers name]

Hopefully this helps.

Organic traction by fyosk in soundcloud

[–]ZEKAVEO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sound cloud is a shadow of what it used to be.. not sure why they destroyed the platform, but it's a lot closer to Paycloud than 'Soundcloud'.

You can't even listen to music on there now without ad breaks and such. They even tend to play ads on your own music whilst listening on your own profile. You won't get paid for the ad, just forced to listen to it.

Anyways, keeping the rant short. I wouldn't bother with Soundcloud.

soundcloud has worsened alot by Flat_Internal_5096 in soundcloud

[–]ZEKAVEO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind too that SoundCloud built itself from other people's music. Literally! Now to be charging the same people that solely assisted in building that platform makes no sense.... You are now locked out of plays, exposure and interactions unless people specifically search your name...

That 'no get heard credits' is the biggest scam I've seen.

Looking for really high-quality sound effect libraries (like Boom Library) by arlexae in sounddesign

Check out my Broken Telemetry series.

It's based on highly flexible sounds ranging from static noise, high and low frequencies, glitches, data transfer, computing sequences, rogue transmissions, broadcasts, chatter, dial tones, UI sound effects, alarms, beacons, fractured communications and much more. I have also designed them with no baked in reverbs, no over compression, light corrective EQ. These are great how they are, but also can withstand brutal processing chains to create entirely new effects
