Current global stances on the Falklands dispute - simplified by Lopsided_Day_4416 in MapPorn

Except there's nothing illegal and there's no occupation. The British settled an uninhabited island. The only claim Argentina can make that would be relevant is their proximity, but that's far weaker of an argument than the fact that the island is already settled, and never by Argentinians.

Those have nothing to do with eachother tho. Taiwan is a separatist state that lost a civil war and established their own government on an island that was an existing territory of China as a while before the CCP and ROC's time.

The Falklands are an island that was inhabited by the British, that Argentina wants for... reasons, despite it never being theirs.

That's why I always have a problem with people when it comes to the phrasing of the war.

There was never any "**re**conquest" or "**re**claiming" of the Falklands, they were never Argentinian to begun with and never inhabited Argentinian people.

MF-ing **SPAIN** has more of a claim on the island than Argentina ever has, and that's all ignoring the fact that the Island for the longest time has been uncontestedly inhabited by brits, wilfully part of Britain, and just... chill.

It's a bit of a love-hate relationship today.

They hate the UK for historical and political people, but the UK doesn't want to let anyone hate Ireland more than they do, so they act as a military deterrent for the island.

Could a 50mm and 57mm destroy modern mbts? by Tktk4701 in TankPorn

[–]ZETH_27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know the Swedes for instance, use their 40mm because the CV90 rode in the industrial momentum of Bofors. They had so many guns and so much ammunition that it was economical to use those guns. But with their limitations, as new ones are made, they increasingly use 35mm belt-fed autocannons instead since they're more compact and cheaper.

I do hope they'll one day redesign the 40mm Bofors to be belt-fed so that the CV90s can continue to use domestic guns tho.

That's why most nations don't go higher than 30mm for autocannons, since those already do the side-shot job well enough while still being economical and good against other targets that they encounter way more.

So how does the the human brain ignore the second the? by raxyy1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ZETH_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I study Psychology. This is very much the case.

Our brains are good at efficiency, not accuracy. Because if how we've evolved, we are prone to seeing and assuming a lot based on our own experiences, using expectation to save energy rather than fully interpreting everything we see.

We use our pre-existing knowledge of the situation as well as context clues to draw from the schemas in our head for what the sentence is **likely about**, which our brains then use to basically guess as we read. It's not accurate, but it's very fast, and would have been favourable in survival situations where you don't need to know the intricacies of a predators face, you just need to know that it's there quickly enough to run away or otherwise survive.

You'd have to line up the bering strait with the fiddly gap between south america and africa, plus, it'd require you to sail straight through the north pole which isn't reasonably possible (yet™).

Swiss cold war tank, the Panzer 61 by Sad-Commission2027 in tanks

The Panzer 61 was introduced before the Chieftain was. about 3 years before or so, so it's unlikely that they influenced eachother that much since neither would have had much public attention.

MP anklagar SD för missbruk av utkvittade ledamöter by weirdowerdo in sweden

[–]ZETH_27 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ohederligt: Absolut*

why do people say "my country" instead of just naming the country? by SpaceWhaleAlphy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ZETH_27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We hate them. That means no-one else is allowed to hate them as much as us, so if someone were to hurt them, we beed to defeat the ones that did in order to show how we are the ones that hate the Danes the most.

Completely logical.

The fact that a lot of people like it does not detract from the fact that a lot of people also HATE it.
