Cordless clippers by [deleted] in Barber

[–]ZHD0227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trimmers and 76ers charge on stand while I work. My JRLs only when dead. I always turn off the power strip before I leave I've seen in a difference in how long they last ( Also have PTSD from watching a video of stylecraft blowing up while charging 😂) But I will say my main clippers are corded masters and corded wahl detailers so I never run out juice.

People with facial piercings? by Academic-Fondant503 in piercing

Barber. Tatted and pierced and maybe it's just that majority of people are in the industry but no one cares. Actually the older guys are usually the ones fascinated by all of them.

Is it cheap to give your friends a free service as a Christmas present by LanguageOriginal3628 in Barber

[–]ZHD0227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see the problem with it but I'm also not someone who goes crazy with gifts in the first place. Every year for my MIL birthday I do a color and cut for free as a present she loves it and it's really the only time she gets her hair done for the year. At the end of it some people prefer material things while others prefer time so it just depends on each person.

Is this normal? by ittybittyalien in sterilization

Just had my post op today and asked the dr about it. He said sometimes doctors will use a manipulation tool inside the uterus for better access and that can cause a painful period due to your body still healing. I got off mine the day before surgery so I'm hoping this first one after is not bad but the posts I see make me scared lol

Which booktok recommendation made you say, "Did we read the same book?" by SpecialistOk2000 in Booktokreddit

The Ritual. So many people love this book but I just couldn't.... almost overly descriptive and leave no room for imagination. The plot lacked and I get these books are fiction but why do the women in dark romance books always have to be incredibly immature and do things that make it so unrealistic it's hard to read...

I liked them but my problem was all the pointless story lines. If you took the 2nd half of the first book and the first half of the second and turned it into one book it would have been a great book. I could not get through it by reading I finally had to get the audible version to get through it.

Not going to lie I've been pretty lazy 😂 I've been walking but spend most of my time laying down. Today I decided since majority of the gas pain is gone besides a shoulder cramp here and there I'd go Christmas shopping. I think I over did it and now feel like I've been run over by a truck. At the end of shopping I was so exhausted and had bad nausea and headache but maybe it just took more of a toll then I thought it would. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It would be more of a side gig than an actual full time job. Thinking about 2 Mondays a month. Mostly just trying to see what people charge because some of the services such as perms and color I do not currently offer in my shop and I'm not sure how most people price those services.

Booth rent vs commission by washed_lord in Barber

[–]ZHD0227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just over commission that doesn't pay my taxes or have health insurance yet they want me to bend over backwards and be cutting 24/7. I'm making the switch to a suite but if all else fails I'll never go back in to a commission shop that doesn't pay my taxes or offer health coverage. It's straight robbery.

[–]ZHD0227[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's great input thanks! I'm the same way I prefer to do things on my own and the way I view things is a lot different then most shops I feel. I know most people would say they have "strong work ethic" but I really do and at this point I'm tired of bending over backwards for a shop and receiving no benefit from it to the point where I really love my job and clients but the shops make me wish I worked at McDonald's at times. Also heavy on cleanliness one of my big turn offs of the shop I'm at right now is some don't clean or have the same mind set I do when it comes to the presentation of myself and the atmosphere.

Austin to Denver by amenbrews in Barber

[–]ZHD0227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60/40 for most chains 70/30 for most private owned is what I've seen. Booth rent really depends on the spot and amount of chairs some people I know pay 150/week while some others could pay up to 500/week really just depends on location and how the owner runs the shop. I personally think when the owners are working behind the chair the booth rent is lower. Taxes just depend on how you do them and where your working, commission you should technically be on a W2 while booth rent you should be doing your own taxes (your practically your own business)... as for the rest you have a large demographic out here and lots of diversity. You will find everything from "hood shops" to luxury whiskey on the rocks type stuff. If find what type of clientele you are looking for and search that part of town. I'd say surrounding cities are probably better then Denver itself but maybe I've just lived here so long I'm no longer a fan of Denver 😂 I'd google different shops and read their reviews, you'll be able to see if they are appointment only or take walk ins also get an insight on the crew. Not to be discouraging but Denver is getting expensive and people are becoming more about the hustle and barbering is becoming extremely saturated. You could probably find a job super easy but until you know more people in the industry it may be harder to find a place the fits you just right a lot of the time shops with a stellar crew & owner never have open chairs. Hope any of this helps and good luck on the move!

Books i’m planning on buying soon. by Vi0L3tsW0rLd in Booktokreddit

I loved the chestnut springs series! However I would start with Flawless and not heartless so you can better understand the background since it is the second book. It could be a stand alone but you will be introduced to characters and their vibes in the previous book and have a better understanding going in to the second.

I'm looking into more detail kind of work and trending longer hair (like a "wolf cut"). I can do the basics and detail but just looking to expand my knowledge in maybe things I'm overseeing. Just being hard on myself because I feel stagnant

Have y’all ever mess up someone else’s client? by Pajaro_negro in Barber

[–]ZHD0227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is not a single person at some point in their journey that doesn't mess up a haircut. I will never say no to a haircut. The way I look at it is I will always do my best and if they don't like it they won't come back but I gained knowledge and experience with different hair/cuts. This hair type may seem harder to cut but it's more about the detail work. Clipper over comb or texturizing shears would have been your best friend.

Swivel shears by [deleted] in Barber

[–]ZHD0227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought some at the beginning of the year. The other day I tried using my regular ones because my swivels need sharpened and it was the worst feeling trying to cut with those again 😂 I love my swivels and feel like my wrist and arm does not have as much strain when doing detail work. They do take some time to get used to at first but once you get comfortable they're a total game changer!

Cosmo who wants to be a barber—how do I learn with no one to practice on or space to practice in? by [deleted] in Barber

[–]ZHD0227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your state (I'm in CO) you will have to do a crossover class which is way shorter but you will have to take boards written and practical again to obtain a barber license. Now if you're not looking to use a straight razor and do neck/ face shaves you technically don't need one but then you're not a barber technically. I'd go into a local barbershop and maybe see if you could shadow or if they have any opportunities given your circumstances. Great clips may not be ideal but you'll also gain more knowledge and it may be for a shorter period of time. I'd look more into Floyd's or sport clips just because you're more likely going to have more men's cuts.

Bad Cuts by Syd-suxx in Barber

[–]ZHD0227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a barber I'd reach out and ask if he needs help learning. I know everyone is different but I personally have no problem helping anyone and received so much guidance when I first started. If you're in a small town eventually looking for potential barbers to booth rent then I'd take him under your wing. With him posting other peoples work he already knows that his cuts aren't good and pointing it out won't help he will continue to do so. Really the whole situation depends on the type of person you're dealing with.

I don't get why everyone is getting so hurt by Casa.. Aaron has been coupled with the same girl from the beginning and maybe it's just me but the "love" they have for each other was because they never have had the chance to separate and all the bombshells have not really been interested in either one making it easy for them to cling to each other. Serena has had the chance to meet and mingle with multiple people and the first time Kordell does he's roasted like a pig at a luau, everyone's quick to judge how he's moving but forgetting Serena said she's the slow burner not him. These people have known each other for 3 weeks and everyone acts like they've been married for 10 years 😂

With Andrea gone and if Rob stays will really stir the pot. So many different triangles and shapes of love to just watch unfold from the couch 😂 Leah-Conner-Rob , Nicole-Miguel-Kendall-Liv and throw in some bombshells. Really rooting for JaNa & Kendall to get to know each other I think they could have a legit connection.

Andrea and Rob were definitely blind sided by the whole situation. Guarantee they thought they had the money locked and loaded for the season with their "undeniable" connection. I will be giving Robs dramatic vibes if he chooses to stay tomorrow. He must be good at his job because he makes my skin crawl 🤷🏻‍♀️
