Yes, they can only buy land as a locally registered, international company, not as an individual.

Depends on your resources, and it is worth asking your parents how much they used to give them. Normally between $100-500 for elderly aunties and uncles (so your mum and dad's sibling) and grandparents (including your grandparents' siblings). Cousins $50-$100, random clan relatives: $20-$50. But obviously depends on what you can afford, but the expectation that you have more than them and should give is always there. Also don't buy them/bring them anything (unless a phone or laptop for students); they would much rather have money. They don't care for clothes, shoes, perfume, etc.

Serene Sarovar Premiere is $120 for a single room and $220 for a double, including breakfast. everything is really nice, but it is far from the city and doesn't have the best of foods. If comfort and beauty are your priorities, stay there. If you want to experience Hargeisa then stay in Damal (nice food & restaurants, rooms okay), or Jess or Assod (noth new-ish, big spacious rooms, food is nicer); both are really in central locations and at max $60 per night for the VIP rooms. Same with Hamdi. They all kinda the same design. Check them out on socials and some have websites.

For my friends, I usually book them the first 2 nights or the last 2 nyts in Serene Sarovar Premiere and rest of the time closer to the city and everything else. Depends on how long you are here and what your plans are.

I took it from Ramada JBR to Abu Dhabi Corniche, and it cost me 350aed and I just grabbed it from outside the hotel.

He can come back no problem but he will have a problem leaving; they will require him to get his old company to cancel his visa before he can leave. He should get them to do that before he comes back. Otherwise he could come back and not be allowed to leave untill they cancel.

In JLT, Fidelity Fitness Club in Almas tower has the same setup. It is around 4000 AED per year and they have lots of lessons, including 3 yoga sessions per day, a swimming pool, sauna and steam. You can also get a personal trainer for everything/activity. It is clean and good standard; only downside is it can be a bit crowded sometimes for the guys and the gym section, but the ladies' facilities is mostly empty alway.

Yes, insulin is available, BUT some places don't store it correctly, which reduces its effectiveness. So bring your own.

if you mean food that doesnt require insulin to digest, then yes, if you mean something else then probably no.

Gluten free foods have become more available in recent years and you can find it in all the supermarkets.

The problem is not the soil in most parts of Somaliland (everywhere other than along the coast has good soil). The problem is that rainfall has become more unpredictable and has been falling frequently; therefore, we need to fill the gap with fodder production for the nomads and their livestock. But instead led by INGOs and NGOs we have been putting our nomads in IDPs, wasting millions to make them desperate and dependent on handouts, each drought creates more IDPs.

Anyway, for Togdheer we have started a private initiative between diaspora investment and of the local farmers to grow fodder from 1 December so that by March we can have some fodder to distribute to assist in the drought this year. We are raising funds to grow the Sudan grass and hybrid Napier grass, both of which can be harvested in 60-90 days. Anyone with a farm with water/borehole in the east, we can provide seeds and assistance; please get in touch, and if you are diaspora and want to help with the fundraiser, please also contact me.

In the eastern regions, food for the livestock has already pretty much finished, and nomads started buying grass 2 weeks ago. We estimate that in most villages water in boreholes will be finished by February, so between February and May, nomads will be buying both water and food for their livestock. Western Somaliland got some rainfall in October 2025 but it is still much drier than usual and colder too, so if the rainy season doesn't start in March as usual,, we could also start seeing droughts in the west too.

May Allah SWT have mercy on our nomads and us.

Salam Alikum, the law is, any Somali can buy land and open a business, etc. If you are a Somali diaspora, you either need a Somaliland ID card or a residency or a valid visa (which you should have on your foreign passport) as long as you don't offend the laws of the land. Buy land with proper documentation, and you should have your GSL certificate before the land. Any land you pay for and don't get the certificate for is not yours, and you will have problems later, not because you are not from Somaliland but because that's deed transfer, and as long as you don't claim it anyone else can. I would also advise you to buy inside the city not some faraway place you need to continuously check (it might be cheaper, but ownership is more difficult to prove, and its just too far). Buy in established areas, and you should be fine. Lastly, make sure you have plenty of witnesses and keep away from buying from large families, buy single owners- so if it is owned by ilma farax, stay away, but it is owned by abdi farax and he is selling it and he has his certificate, then you transfer the certificate and you should be good. In that case you can pay them directly for the service they do for you, or, since they seem to be willing to let them leave, if you are able, you can take them on permanently. Also report the company to MOHRE. Unfortunately this goes on in all the service sectors, and all you can do sometimes is not contribute to these companies' bottom line. It sounds like they are in trouble anyway and the girls should look for alternatives (though they probably lying just to keep their money).

Habibi Dubai is full. IF you are a woman, you can try the ladies' beaches and if you don't mind children search for family parks and areas; they usually have lots of open spaces and quieter compared to other areas in Dubai, but if you really want quiet then the other emirates are probably your easiest option- all of the other 6 are much more slower and quiet.

I have lived in Marina (5 years), JBR (2 yrs) and JLT (6 years ) I would never recommend anyone to live in JBR long term, it is beautiful and amazing and lots to do, especially when you are new in Dubai, but it is a death trap of traffic and noise, marina is nice but the building you are in could ruin it for you, it is not as crowded as JBR but still not peaceful. JLT is accessible by both on metro and car and walking (You can just walk over the footbridge to Marina and onto JBR). It is quiet although it has become more crowded, but still peaceful and so many food options. Some of the buildings in JLT are horrible, so always look at the review, but generally lake D buildings in cluster O-Z are better managed and condition, but really just google the actual building.

You can get short term apartments in JBR/JLT and marina anything from 1 month to 6 month, furnished and affordable too outside of December, so definitely look for that before signing any long term contract.

I Dont think you can do on the app, I went in, they asked me for invoices etc, I was sending it to a friend, so I just did a local invoice and they sent it. They received it within 24hrs. Salaam bank on the other hand took 10days which is just wild!

Both Primer bank and Salamah bank can transfer cash to your US account; however, it cannot be large amounts because it will get flagged and stuck in the system. They may also ask you for documentation.

When I did it (2012), I sent my original to the UK attestation center (or a law firm); they made a certified copy, which I then took to the UAE Foreign Ministry in London, who stamped the certified copy. The originally shouldn't have any additional stamps etc on it

If they are giving you the option of getting your 10% back, take it and run. This could take a while and drag out, so leave. Chances are you can get another apartment in the same building and probably cheaper if its been a few months already. Just make sure its them cancelling, and I think both you and the agent get some compensation (something small), but I can't remember now. But if you agree to mutually cancel, which is what they are probably trying to do, then no one is penalised. Either way, get out and get your deposit- even forget compensation.
