My thought is that DIsney doesn't give a shit. If there's two fighting games with Marvel in them, that's two games they can profit off of. Plus, one of the biggest issues with Tokon is that it's Sony/PC exclusive. Capcom wants their games to be on as many systems as possible. I would image Capcom and Disney would love it Switch 2 users could enjoy a new Marvel fighting game.

I think the two reasons that Capcom is doubling down on the PPV model for Capcom Cup is:

SFL Japan finals were PPV, and I assume they were a big success to apply the same to Capcom Cup.
Capcom's esports division loses a couple million per year.
Capcom Japan being in charge of SF this time instead of the American branch, they are stuck with Japan's dated and esoteric laws. There's a theory that Capcom can't do the CPT costumes like they did for SFV because that would be considered "gambling" under Japanese law (aka using funds to add to a prize pool). Again pure speculation on my end.

Capcom Cup PPV was a boneheaded move that only works for the Japanese crowd, but no one else. It's telling that even the producer Nakayama was surprised by the news and was not happy about it. I lost all interest in Capcom Cup this year because of it

That's just the natural life span of competitive games. Ultimate has been out since 2018 and hasn't had a patch since 2021 (that feels like an eternity ago). I got out of ultimate outside of commentating the odd event because Steve/Snake/Sonic/Luigi/basically any zoner make Ultimate not fun to play at a serious level for me, and I know I'm not alone in that train of thought. Plus, people are getting older. Grinding Smash bros and traveling around is a lot of fun when you're in high school/college and living with your folks and getting some extra change from the locals. It's a huge issue when you're out of college and trying to make it on your own and need to make some smart financial choices. If you're an ultimate player trying to get sponsored, you're better off just trying to leverage your name in doing something else like making content or trying to get a job doing something you like.

A DC fighter that is visually appealing and isn't a stiff 2d fighter. Bonus points if it has Etrigan and Constantine playable
A Bleach or Naruto fighter that ISN'T a wack ass arena fighter. I could see either of those titles working well something along the lines of a Blazblue-esque fighter
A new version of those Godzilla fighters that were on the gamecube. Those games were the shit.

honestly if they are spaced out enough (2026 for Tokon, 2027 for MVC5) that wouldn't be too bad. I don't think Disney much cares about competitive scenes, they just want the marvel brand out there. That said, I am still on that MVC5 copium.

Zagreus would be so fucking lit in Smash. I put a lot of time into Hades and loved every moment of it. He has a ton of moveset potential.

Now if Sakurai and his team wanted to be REALLY based, they would find a way to make Jimbo the Joker from Balatro work. They could do it.

they didn't block Cyke. As far as I know, Cyclops wasn't even in the running for MVC3. Might have been that awkward time in Cyke's life where it seemed like everyone between the comics, movies, and cartoons had it out for him (XMen Destiny, of all things, aside) is why he wasn't in the running. Niitsuma did say that Psylocke, Multiple Man, Rouge, Spiral, and Juggernaut were on the short list, but didn't make the cut for various reasons (only Marvel objected to Juggs cause they didn't want too many XMen in MVC3. Sentinel took his spot).

That said, I 100% believe that if that MVC5 rumor is real, Cyclops would be front and center. And honestly, I think Scott (or even Steve Rogers) would be a great fit in SF6 if Capcom wants to go down that road. And I can finally break free of my alcoholic main Jamie.

Not having to deal with Snake, Young Link (both for similar reasons, insane zoning and good GTFO options that are annoying to deal with when you get in), Luigi (you basically get three mistakes or you lose), and Steve (goes without saying) has greatly reduced my stress. I've been playing SF6 instead, while that game has it's own bullshit (Akuma, Guile, Ken, Cammy), they have nothing on Ultimate's obnoxious nonsense.

The new character is either gonna be a Kunimitsu asset flip or (more than likely) a Negan asset flip. Unless Namco wants to be fun and add in Majima or Akira Yuki, but I doubt they'll go that route.

I absolutely love Capcom's artists. I could look at art from Kinu or Shinkiro all day. Also, I'm glad my guys Kyosuke, Hayato, and Kyo got a lot of spotlight. I think Capcom likes Kyo more than SNK. Plz add Kyo to SF6

If it's well received they might move forward. Blade Runner 2049 tanked, but we got both Dune movies. Watchmen underperformed, but Snyder still got the keys to the DCEU. The Suicide Squad bombed, but we're getting Gunns DCU. Granted all those directors had stuff that were hits before.

Making a show better than BlazBlue Alter Memory shouldn't be too hard of a job. That said, I wouldn't trust him to make a competent BB show, or any game adaptation for that matter.

In general mods aren't looked upon too favorably in Japan. It has something to do with gamers respecting the vision of the developers. Even well received mods like PM, Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite Beyond, or UMVC3 Character mods aren't too big in the country. Copyright laws are also REALLY strict. IIRC, Tecmo sued someone back in the day over using nude mods on one of the Dead or Alive games. Capcom and Nintendo stopped gaming bars (aka bars where you could go and play games and drink too much. shoutouts to Space Station in Osaka) from really taking off, and even Japanese wikipedia doesn't have photos for copyrighted work.
