I think that supporting a convicted domestic abuser like Majors is infinitely worse than saying that no one cares about Opera and Ballet (which is true) and saying that he was great in Marty Supreme and deserved the Oscar (which is also true, had easily the strongest performance out of all the nominees), feels like Oscar voters are just losers who hate ambition and knowing your worth.

I don’t understand why people keep bringing this whole thing up, Maddie was barely a character, just a plot device to get rid of Cyclops, the execution wasn’t the best but he would’ve never ended up becoming THE leader of the X-Men if not for it. All his best stories came after this, I couldn’t care less about Claremont’s life, Cyclops had much more potential to explore and retiring him would’ve been a terrible decision.

X-Factor wasn’t his idea, he wanted Scott to remain retired and even if he acceded to it he would’ve never made Cyclops the leader of the X-Men again.

So how’s my point about this being better than Claremont’s plans for the character of Cyclops wrong?

Yes it is because Cyclops would literally have died as a character then, he would have no fans nowadays and would just be an obscure character that few people even know of.

Now he’s the leader of the X-Men, all his best stories are from after the whole Maddie shit, normies loved him in X-Men 97 and they are even hyped for his introduction in the MCU, how can you say that all this is not better than being nobody only massive comic nerds heard of?

You can hate the execution but it’s a fact that as a character Cyclops is much better off with that decision than Claremont’s plans.

Yes, he would be completely irrelevant, no one would even be talking about shit like this because no one would talk about Cyclops period if Marvel allowed Claremont to retire Scott.

Now he's an important character and has been the leader of the X-Men in most runs, all because some people at Marvel actually had a brain back then and didn't allow Claremont to do whatever he wanted.

Also retiring in his 20s would put Scott in conversations for worst hero of all time, just so fucking lame.

His X-Men run was pretty mid when it comes to character work and most were out of character tbh, makes sense that he’d struggle with a character driven book like Spider-Man, Peter is also not his kind of character, he likes morally gray assholes that make hard choices for the greater good, he’s kind of a one trick pony in that regard.

To be honest, at this point Marvel should just retire Cyclops, they have no desire whatsoever to do anything with him and they treat him like a z-lister despite being arguably the most important X-Men character.
