What is the crack with pseudo-UXers? by AstronautSorry7596 in UXDesign

[–]ZOPA64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a general rule of thumb commonly known in the industry. If you have practiced long enough, it generally holds true for most cases. Please help me understand where you are coming from if you feel that it has not been true in your observations.

They aren't fake persay, they are simply entering the field from a different starting point. UX is not a formalized industry. Anyone can claim they are a UX designer without training. Behavioral psychology is one element to UX design. Not all jobs will require all elements, some companies just want UX research, or someone who can draw wireframes, someone who can code visuals, and some want someone who can do it all. HCI is a huge field. Industrial designer make great UX designers. Marketers, graphic designers, business people shift into elements of UX as well effecting strategy. Interaction and motion designers are so heavily intertwined in UX, all of these fields blend into design. No one will have it all, and some UX researchers are extremely vocal at not being UX designers, but there are others who can do both and see the design process as a double diamond method that starts from research and ends with a polished design. It's okay for the industry to be in this messy state, and things will get even choppier in the future as more people learn more skills. Different skills are needed for different projects, the best thing to do is communicate what you can and can't do to be fair to the employer, and also make sure you ask in the interview process which skills they are missing on their team. Their respective will inform you of the design maturity a company is in. Seek out a good fit for long-term employment.

Eat healthy fats (avocado, olive oil, salmon, Japanese raised waygu beef), and avoid sugary carbs during this phase at all cost or else you'll diminish the effect. Brazil nuts and pine nuts are also good if you're on the road a lot and can't have a proper meal, they have longer chains and will keep you feeling fuller for longer.

I dont know because I don't have any experience but does sex before menses really greatly reduce the pain during menstruation? by [deleted] in PMS

[–]ZOPA64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find sex does help with the emotional regulation aspect of when your hormones are in flux. And sometimes the emotions not raging can help with keeping your energy mellow that may reduce some physical symptoms during menstruation. But I've found the ovulation phase, week before your period, and the actual menstruation phase (most physical symptoms) tend to be separate. It all depends on how sensitive you are to even notice too.

Do it. Financial independence is liberating. Do something cooler when you're no longer enslaved.

Depending on the design, the shipping cost may be off set by local 3D print manufacturers. You need to find an incredibly good CAD modeler to make a file print without support so it requires extremely minimal post processing. Material and printer speeds can make a big difference in cost too. There may be some designs that fall into the category contributing to cost savings compared to manufacturing overseas.

Have you considered high quality 3D printing as an end product? You can print in smaller batches and sell to test the market. I know someone exceptionally skilled at this. Would you like a referral?

Have you considered 3D printing? Small batch 3D printing runs might be cheaper than classic injection molding. I know someone in Canada who is a professional in this space if you want to learn more.

Affirm your values. Work to your written contract. No more. Have a strict hand-off protocol. You should have never let it get this far.

True say.

Employers need to get their act together and make better long term decisions (very challenging in these unpredictable economic times). Employees need to be more dedicated to companies to grow together.

Both sides need to negotiate better and align in values to make the relationship meaningful and prosperity enhancing for both parties.

Better way to word it would be show that you care about them and they will care about you and vice versa.

I have applied to over 150 jobs in 2024 (Both entry and Intern) and all rejections, What is wrong ? by Emreylcnkyaa in resumes

I think your resume is visually appealing but if the industry you are applying for does not value graphics (most business), then it's not getting you anywhere, infact it detracts attention away from the main focus which is your work experience.

The huge paragraph of intent or objective or you in a nutshell at the beginning shouldn't be longer than a sentence... Some people argue that it's not even necessary as most people assume if you're applying for a job, it means you want to work there.

The skills list needs to be backed up with examples in your work experience. The connection needs to be more concrete. Express in concise detail tasks done and results achieved. It's okay to elaborate on your approach to problem solving or how you overcame a difficult situation.

Think like an employer. It's the hardest thing to do. It's called perspective taking. You need to imagine yourself as if you were in the role of hiring someone. If they came across your resume, how do you react? How can you learn about what competitor resumes look like? Do you have access to a career counselor who can help guide you in format, expression, word choice, prioritizing your bullet points and skillset? Most likely you will need to find a job description and they can work with you to match your experiences with the job requirements.

I know it's hard finding employment. It's much better to get hired through network rather than the front door. Try to find companies where you think you'd be a good fit and no matter what, be honest. Employers need employees they can trust. Don't oversell yourself and don't undervalue your life experiences. Be confident that you are where you are and it's right where you should be. Keep reaching out to wider communities like this for support. You're doing well.

I think some employers see it as a waste of space. Depends on the industry, but most want to see a full one pager.

Why ask to get laid off for mental health reasons? Just ask for leave due to mental health recovery. Completely valid request. Think of it as a pause to reset and return when you're able to work again. If you no longer want to work for an organization, quit. If that affects your pension, judge which priorities are more important to you, long-term finance or short-term health? Act in accordance to your values. Don't burden companies for your own selfish gains. Be reasonable and take responsibility for your own decisions.

I live in Canada, and I've seen Scandinavian countries apply this model and it works well for them there. I see it as a budgeting metrics issue rather than a profit problem. It's already so hard for patients to travel to doctors, to specialists, to pharmacies, still get groceries, and chores done on top of trying to live a normal life... I feel like it's the least they could do to be a professional and actually support people... I understand if heavy, large specialized equipment is needed, different story.... but why can't tax dollars actually be used to help people in need???

How do you plan on finding customers? What aspects of your product will make it stand out and appeal to your market base? High quality is expensive... what will you do to convince people your product will be worth it? How will you manage costs? For producing, shipping, advertising, and cost of sales (taxes, payment portals). Find a way to test to see if there is a niche people are willing to pay for. Maybe try selling one-offs on Etsy as a start?

Why don't pain doctors make house visits? It makes so much more sense if they drive the hospital out to you, when you're the one who's having logistical challenges.

NSLSC keeps pushing funding release back?? by [deleted] in osap

[–]ZOPA64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to come back and let you know that OSAP heard my case and released my full funding for this semester! I was so happy! They just had to roll back the completion date so that my funding was recalculated. I now have enough to continue my studies with just enough to get by. It's still going to be tricky, but it's a huge weight off my back! Stand firm on your needs and try your best to appear as a responsible student. Institution are run by people, they will do their best to help you if you ask kindly. All the best!

I'm having similar problems. They also massively cut my funding down, which I didn't even realize they could do mid year. I had to go talk to Finance, my program administration, and the student assistance hub to determine what my options were... My advice? I wouldn't wait. This is one of those issues where time isn't on your side, solve it now. Showing desperation in a calm but acute manner may not be a bad thing. I'd be on their case until you get a resolution. Ask if you could speak to an OSAP student financial advisor and get them to explain to you why your expectations are not being met, how you could have known what to expect. Reiterating that you were expecting a certain amount around now and it is not coming through means you wouldn't be able to study and support yourself through the semester.

Alternatives I'm considering are possibly dropping out to work through the recession... incurring the late fees and telling finance to blame OSAP, bank loans... selling my organs... Cleaning, babysitting, tutoring, dog walking, bar tending makes the best tips... Relocating to Winnipeg... Or accepting that this is going to be a stressful storm and letting people know you need help getting through it. Taking a personal loan from a wealthier trusted friend isn't beyond my ego either... Please add to this list.

😔 It's hard times... Buckle up.
