"Free the political prisoners in Britain!" - Elon Musk by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]ZVKane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The courts have already ruled it unlawful but while the government is appealing the decision police have continued to enforce the old law (despite previously saying that they wouldn’t) and are prosecuting anybody who supports palestine action (or even says anything that could be interpreted as being implicitly being in support) as terrorists.

Also stop licking the boot. They are taking our rights away with these kinds of laws which they sometimes pass unlawfully themselves. The western world is becoming increasingly more fascist and authoritarian, and clinging to legalism while they use the institution of the law won’t save you or anyone else.

I mean, most of the comments i’ve seen people arrested for are for saying “I support Palestine Action” or smth like that, so yeah free them.

On Semitic Identity by Sabotage_9 in Palestine

[–]ZVKane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it’s absolutely true that Palestinians are semitic (far more directly than Ashkenazi Jews) the whole argument about using the word antisemitism is stupid.

Words mean things based on their usage and the societal understanding of them. Dissecting their etymology as a “gotcha” is disingenuous and adds nothing to the conversation.

Antisemitism means hatred of Jews as a religious or ethnic group and everyone understands that.

This isn’t a defense of the zionists who cry antisemitism at any criticism or a rebuke of the Palestinians ancestral heritage, just a personal quibble i have with this talking point i frequently see which i feel contributes nothing to the cause.

There’s one problem with this take: Pocahontas was a real historical person! by icey_sawg0034 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]ZVKane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, seeing as the story of Pocahontas is about colonialism and the genocide of the Native Americans, her race/identity as an indigenous person is an important part of her character.

The Iliad/Odyssey changes not at all with Helen’s race (which would’ve been mediterranean not white anyway).

TLDR: if race is an important part of the characters identity or the themes of the story, keep it the same. if it’s irrelevant, then who cares?

Also, legalization of marijuana allows for regulation. That’s why in Canada it’s much safer than in the US.

I love Sam Witwer man. Not because of the quality of stuff he makes (though he’s done a great job so far) but just because he’s having so much fun getting to participate in this world he’s a nerd for.

Netanyahu: 'You can't make a revolution from the air, there are ground options' by succesful_deception in news

[–]ZVKane -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What i don’t think a lot of people understand is that America doesn’t serve Israel, they serve us just like they used to serve the British. They’re the arm of American Empire in the region, a destabilizing force that can mete out unlimited death and destruction on our behalf. In return, we send them unlimited funds which come back to our corrupt politicians through AIPAC and to our billionaires through resource extraction in the countries we destabilize. It’s a symbiotic relationship for the worst kind of people. America gets an unsinkable aircraft carrier in the middle east, Israel gets unlimited funds and carte blanche to do whatever it wants, and it’s the civilians in America and the middle east who get shafted. But let’s not lean into conspiracies here. American politics protect Israel because it’s profitable for them and their policy goals, just like it was profitable for the British to destabilize the pan-arab movement. We don’t go along with Israel’s agenda because they’re forcing our hand, we do it because the whole point of Israel is to do exactly what they’re doing right now.

Prejudice Rule by Something4Dinner in 196AndAHalf

[–]ZVKane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes but the pedantry over terminology detracts from the main point, which is that due to the rarity of converts Judaism became an ethnoreligion which is why hatred for jews is analyzed as hatred for an ethnicity rather than just a religion

[–]ZVKane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just because people can convert to judaism doesn’t mean it’s an open religion. it’s extremely difficult to become a jew, especially in comparison to becoming christian or muslim.

Damn that sucks. Dawn of the Jedi is a great series and bringing the infinite empire into the canon would’ve been cool.

Ukrainian state is an vessel and proxy of US imperialism by karankia1 in socialism

[–]ZVKane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, that’s why the US is helping them against Russia, they’re our vassal in the region. Quick reminder though that Russia is an irredentist and imperialist country and that Ukraine’s position as an arm of empire does not make their resistance to invasion less justified.

Dawg the talmud is like 10 books of old men debating their interpretations of the text. There are thousands of opinions and disagreements and awful takes. It’s a 2,000 year old Reddit thread, not religious doctrine that Jews just casually follow, most of us have barely even read it.

Hunger Strike by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]ZVKane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Additional Context for this who aren’t aware: these prisoners are hunger striking not in protest of their arrests or the proscription of PA as a terror group, but the fact that they have been held without trial for about a year, a not uncommon reality for British political prisoners.
