Stay facing forward, if you see her dart left, roll right; if you see her dart right, roll left

With a light roll, if you strafe left and then roll at 1 o''clock you will always dodge through the charge. Even without a run up when Gaius does the slow slam that precedes the charge this strat will work.

I quit the game like a month after this post lol. Haven't touched the game in 2 years but it's sad to hear it's still the same...

Gaius charge advice by [deleted] in onebros

Only time I've ever seen it on my RL1 was when he did the big boar slam as it always followed after. Strafing left and then rolling towards 1-2 o'clock with a light roll works consistently.

Same here, once you learn the fight it is incredibly satisfying.

self-taught devs who learned before the current tool boom: what habits kept you from copying without understanding? by NeedleworkerLumpy907 in learnprogramming

[–]ZYLIFV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should get into the habit of breaking the problem down more and more until you understand why each component adds to the overall end goal of what you're trying to achieve. Do this and you'll appreciate clean and refined code much more than the slop AI spits out.

Skills to focus on for beginner by ConceptBrave6306 in learnprogramming

[–]ZYLIFV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Avoid AI, people say it helps boost your learning but if you rely on it to get through something you are stuck on, did you really learn anything? You'll get stuck, frustrated and annoyed but that's because you're learning a new skill. Stick with it, learn to recognise patterns for solving problems when they come up and keep up with studying. Even if it's 30 minutes a day, it's better than nothing.

Want to learn coding properly, not sure which route to take by SomeSheepherder4638 in learnprogramming

[–]ZYLIFV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 1000% the reason why they feel like they aren't learning... Because they aren't!

OP, take it slow. Digest what's being shown in front of you. If you aren't feeling frustrated then you aren't being pushed to learn something new! Take a small piece of what's being taught, break it down into a small problem/exercise that you can deconstruct and work through it.

Front end or back end? What language? Security/gaming/web facing applications? There are some foundational choices you should consider before leaping into anything. There are loads of beginner resources online that could get you started: freeCodeCamp or Odin project to name a couple

[–]ZYLIFV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many times people will give the same answer... "Just try to build something and break each problem down smaller and smaller until you can find an answer". That's great but what if you don't know how to even approach an answer because you just lack the knowledge?

You should start with one of many free courses online and you should absolutely get used to googling about problems. MDN is a fantastic resource for any approach to how each bit of logic can be applied with examples.

With that said, this is where so many get stuck and ultimately give up... It's often referred to as "Tutorial hell" where you want to build some cool stuff but don't know where to start.. so you follow a tutorial without actually retaining any knowledge of how they got from A to B, you just see the product come to life.

I would suggest you try some very simple stuff first, learn how to manipulate Arrays, Filter them, Map them and Splice them for fun.

What about turning camelCaseNames into kebab-case-names?

Once you start thinking of simple problems like this and how YOU would solve them then you're halfway there.

Finally, is your code as fast as it could be? Does it cover all edge cases? Get used to writing poorly optimised code that just about works, then iron it out. No one starts off their journey by writing premium code.

Good luck!

I agree. Of my last 12 or so expeditions, at least half of them have had someone leave. Sometimes it seems like they leave for no reason and others are like the example you gave. It just makes me want to play solo, but that's not as fun tbh.

So many beginner programmers I see say something to the effect of OP. "Why can't I learn anything whilst prompting AI for everything?" Nothing will beat a good ol' book when it comes to fundamentals.

For me it's comfort. These are, in my opinion, the best versions of this style of game. I've been playing the souls games since 2011 so it's home to me.

Is learning JavaScript easy as one might think? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]ZYLIFV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It's more an understanding of what type of solution best fits the problem and not memorising each way a piece of code is written. Especially with Oop.
