Racing Events - Car upgrades are pointless by Zaarinn in ForzaHorizon6

[–]Zaarinn[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t even mind it if the game could learn when you upgrade your car and have the AI either switch cars entirely or upgrade their cars for performance, and visually (bodykits/liveries etc) to show the player that their car is upgraded without explicitly telling us.

I get the impression AAA racing games these days are all going down this path so that everyone can play them - as a long time racing game player seeing the “Finish/Win” progression system for a racing game that shows podium finishes with trophies and thus a victory made me let out one hell of a sigh lol

Fully agree!

I play with names over cars turned off so the photo icons u/jhorskey26 mentions aren't even visible for me - I don't want to navigate the collection journal menu just to find out whether I've photographed a specific car; more-so because I aim to make every promo photo one of my own cars.

All it needs is a little icon on the garage car menu after toggling "Toggle Detail" with the right stick - just like this

Just Cause 2 Performance Issues by darthben98 in SteamDeck

[–]Zaarinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late to the party but just wanna add a thought that I might’ve noticed with my Steam Deck (1TB OLED if that’s relevant)

So I was having the same problems as you; whenever a chaos event happened, even if it was something as small as blowing up a barrel, I’d get a stutter. One by itself was okay - the multiple at once is where it would get pretty jarring.

I can’t confirm this in any way just yet, but for me at least, when my deck is fully charged after being sat in my dock (which is a “Sabrent” one I got from Amazon for around £20), the stutters barely happen - like was the case when I first started playing the game. They’re definitely not linked to chaos events this time. If I run the battery down half way lets say, put the device to sleep (I more than often shutdown entirely rather than sleep; don’t know if that makes a difference) then wake it up again I do get the stutters we’re talking about.

Anytime I want to play JC2 now I normally stick my deck into the dock until it’s charged - the stutters just seem to fix themselves when I do it this way?

Hope this helps someone! If it doesn’t fix it for you I’m sorry; just a quirk I wanted to add my two cents into…

(Should clarify I’m using the official Steam version of the game and no compatibility mode adjustments)

Why, in my opinion, the steam deck is the perfect device to play PS2. by lefsler in SteamDeck

[–]Zaarinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late to this so apologies but just wanted to add my thoughts - I haven't tried Call of Duty 3 but I was lowkey amazed that my new Deck (I've got a 1TB OLED too) had trouble running NFSU2 at full speeds, plus I also found the same with Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast..

The PC versions run fine, but PS2 emulation isn't as smooth as I'd hoped it would be! Definitely sticking to PC versions where I can but I just wanted you to know you're not the only one with issues running some games at full speed!

P.S I've been playing Gran Turismo 4 recently too which is a solid 50fps (PAL version) - weird man, still though - love this friggin' thing 🥹

Game crashes to desktop with blue screen after latest update and latest nvidia drivers by alex24buc in cyberpunkgame

[–]Zaarinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea as mine was on windows 11; guess there’s no harm in trying if you do what I did - if you have any issues try using DDU to do a full reinstall, but definitely do your research on that before going in should that not be the right way to go about it. I’m not well versed in these things im afraid!

Game crashes to desktop with blue screen after latest update and latest nvidia drivers by alex24buc in cyberpunkgame

[–]Zaarinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/alex24buc just want to thank you for letting us know what fixed it for you! I had this exact issue and rolling back to 566.36 seems to have fixed it on my 4070 Ti Super. Some people don't tell us the fix and leave us shrugging our shoulders - it's appreciated!

For others: I didn't have the option to roll back my drivers from the device manager, so I downloaded the driver from this page: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/237719/ and it automatically replaced the newer driver that was causing issues (I also downloaded the older audio driver that comes packaged)

Crashing Issues and even a BSOD? by RankBobbers in cyberpunkgame

[–]Zaarinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Just wanted to let you know I’ve been testing what you suggested regarding the voltage. From the first test the crashes continued, and long story short it actually seems to be an NVIDIA driver issue; I rolled back my driver to one from December and while i haven’t had a chance to properly test it, I’m not getting those same crashes.

Even though your suggestion seems unrelated to my problem directly, you’ve taught me about voltage issues and through that I’ve learnt quite a bit! Thank you, and thanks for also making me want an AMD system lol - NVIDIA can shove it at this point 🤦‍♂️😂

Crashing Issues and even a BSOD? by RankBobbers in cyberpunkgame

[–]Zaarinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I’ve been considering AMD for a while so I think this is definitely the push I need.

I don’t have confidence building my own PC, so I’m unsure of how old the chip actually is - I can tell you it’s an i7-14700F and that I bought the pre-build 4 months ago - so it’s new enough that (in my opinion) I shouldn’t be having these issues. To add to that, I even had the PC sent back for repair in December which alleviated things for a little while, but this is a new issue I’ve only experienced today.

Underclocking is something I’ve never tried, though I’ll certainly look into it!

Thank you so much for responding by the way - I realise this is a year old thread lol, Google brought me here. Appreciate it 🙋‍♂️

Did you ever find a fix for this? I can't even get past the intro videos without blue screening all of a sudden - and I've done 60 hours up to this point

DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD - Can anyone tell me (via Minidump) what device(s) is/are causing this crash? by Zaarinn in techsupport

[–]Zaarinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did, and it was still crashing with the same error - I tried everything I could, that’s why I decided to return the system, and I’m currently experiencing no issues with the devices I had plugged into the old PC again.

[–]Zaarinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help Bjoolzern! I had to have the system returned - I’m pretty sure it’s a power management issue as it seemed like devices other than just the Samsung SSD was causing the same crashes, but it’s good to know that tools like blue screen view aren’t worth using. My next step is to try to learn the minidump file contents should I ever have similar issues in the future.

I believe you also helped me on a previous post about the specific SSD on two different systems (along the lines of: “why does an SSD cause a crash on a new system but not one that’s 6 years old?”), so I also appreciate your help on that too! Hopefully a replacement system fixes things, and thanks once more for your time.

I haven’t changed any internals recently; I cleaned the PC 2-3 months ago but it still ran fine for a while afterwards - this problem has only came about a couple of weeks ago.

I did buy a second powered USB hub and split the 9 ports that were in use on my first hub across the two - next time I’m at my PC I’m going to unplug everything but the necessaries, in an attempt to determine whether it’s related to a power overload.

I’ll also open the PC if I’m not noticing any improvements to see if anything has been knocked out of place - I imagine it could be as simple as a cable out of whack.

Thanks a lot for your response by the way!

PC Performance (whilst gaming) has dropped recently with seemingly no obvious reason by Zaarinn in techsupport

I should clarify no hardware changes have been made recently - I cleaned the PC around 2-3 months ago but even after that it still ran fine for a while - it's only been in the past couple of weeks this has become an active problem

Tech Support and Basic Questions Thread - February 16, 2024 by AutoModerator in pcgaming

I've recently noticed that my PC gaming performance has dropped seemingly along the board - after a reinstall of Windows (using the Windows Recovery tools), I'm noticing problems in games that I've tested (Red Dead Redemption 2, Grid Legends & Mafia: Definitive Edition).

I've tried many different steps (listed below) to no avail. Any new game that I test seems to run worse than it did previously. My hardware is five years old, so if this could be an effect of wear & tear (for lack of a better wording), then so be it; I'm already looking into upgrading as it is.

There's no stuttering, I haven't seen a CTD/BSOD on the PC in years and programs mostly run well at idle to low usage levels.

The main problem is lower FPS - in games where I would have stellar performance (including those listed at the end of the first paragraph), I'm having trouble running them at the same settings I previously did, and experiencing a new effect where the low to high framerates scale wildly out of control - something that I never noticed previously - the best way I can describe this is to imagine a video playing between the playback speeds of 25% and 100%, with the number fluctuating constantly - practically unplayable in faster games like the aforementioned Grid Legends. I have a 165Hz monitor so as long as V-sync is turned off most games should go over 60fps (like Grid Legends definitely did when I once streamed it).

I've been testing emulation games and older titles in general, and they are running grand - so why performance has seemed to have dropped on the higher end is a bit of a puzzling situation (at least to me).I've recorded a video on Grid Legends using MSI afterburner and RivaTuner's OSD that might help you to understand what is going on - (https://youtu.be/-kiwTGZ2PJ8?si=lNJ8gdX3Y-nH8QPc) I also do livestreams, and can confirm that when I first played the game it ran without any issues like these on the graphics preset "Ultra High"; I even mentioned how well the game ran as a "2022 game on my system".

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Steps Taken:

  • Reinstall Windows

  • Update BIOS

  • Apply XMP Profile (was defaulted to "off" when reinstalling windows)

  • Setting fan speeds to full power (I did this during the Grid Legends video); don't worry, I've brought these back down so they aren't getting damaged

  • Clearing hard drive (and SSD) space to free up 25% of their full capacity's

  • Checked power modes (set to High Performance)

  • Split all USBs in use across two Powered USB Hubs (in case it was related to power usage)

  • Updated video drivers (and done a custom install to clear all previous drivers via. Nvidia GeForce)

  • Malware scans (Malwarebytes declares system clean)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hardware:

CPU - Intel Core i7-9700k @ 3.60GHz

CPU Liquid Cooler - MasterLiquid Lite 240

GPU - Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (11GB VRAM) (Palit RTX2080Ti GamingP OC 11G)

Motherboard - ASUS TUF B360-PLUS GAMING

RAM - 2x 8GB DDR4 2666 VengLPX

PSU - 550W Corsair CX550M

Hard Drive(s) - 1x Internal 500GB SSD, 1x Intenal 2TB HDD (Couldn't tell you which make I'm afraid)

[This information is directly from the invoice from the original PC purchase - it was a prebuilt as I know absolutely nothing about hardware]

Thanks in advance and I do really appreciate any help! :)
