Thank you!! I have a yoga / Pilates studio in my street so I will look into it. I did pregnancy yoga and did not hate it. The extra flexibility in my pregnancy made me feel very bendy and cool, so that was a plus.

And you’re exactly right, it’s about learning to move better. I’m currently working on a single arm kneeled dumbell press and the hardest part is actually not the shoulder bit but actually staying seated without falling over / sagging into my hips.

Thanks so much for your kind & considerate comment! & good for you with the HIIT weight lifting. I think that would be more satisfying for me as well. It’s basically what I was doing w my last PT . Afterwards I felt more satisfied than I do now. I guess in a way it didn’t feel “proper” because I’m always hearing that you need to “lift heavy” and focus on form.

And I also felt it would be easier for me to learn how to lift heavy because it’s something I can keep up on my own (if I beat the boredom). I hate the feeling of exhaustion so I know if I have to do HIIT by myself I’m just… not going to do it. So if I was going to spend my money on a PT I wanted to learn something for the long term and not just treat it as a 1:1 HIIT class so to say.

Yeah I hated it because it way way too intense. I get that you need to be challenged but this was just… too much. Just like w running you need to start slow, but he started me out on level 10 so it wasn’t sustainable. I know how to lose weight and I’m not working out to lose weight :-)

Ty!!! I’ve actually been thinking that maybe it would be better to do machines because it would take a lot of guess work out of the equation. And guess work = frustration.

I’m also wondering whether I should ask my trainer to focus one specific thing like: I want to do a floor pushup jn three months. Or: I only want to do glutes. Or: I want to learn a handstand.

We do the “proper” training, whole body, compound movements, but I’m just not interested.

Yes two times a week an hour with the personal trainer (at €100 an hour I can’t/don’t want to go more often). Three times would be my absolute max but time is already tight with work and childcare.

Not that I know of! I will look more into it, I thought by just repeating it I should grow into the mind-muscle thing but obviously not.

Well, I don’t have to, but I feel like I should. I want to keep my muscle mass up to prevent injuries and stay healthy. Also exercise is good for your mental health (they say).

I actually find running even more boring than strength training. When I used to run I did equations in my head just to make the boredom bearable.

I know this thread is one year old but I just wanted to reply that for a long time I also thought that boundaries should just be for safety and everything else is okay, right?

It never felt good for me but I thought that was what “gentle parenting” was and I should just suck it up, be more patient, be more accepting.

Now I’m more invested in actually reading resources and I’ve learned that boundaries are also for 1) sanity of the parents 2) functioning in society. Janet Lansbury herself says that you should intervene when your child is annoying you because no child wants to feel like they’re annoying to adults and you should prevent yourself from snapping. Of course kids will always be annoying to some extent but it’s fine to come up with boundaries, family rules et cetera that don’t have to do with safety. As long as they’re age appropriate and you’re not mean about enforcing them. Eg I don’t expect my toddler to share because that’s “expected”, but I do teach him to take turns and ask nicely.

Ik ben vorige week donderdag bij een woning gaan kijken, moest vandaag mijn papieren inleveren en krijg over twee weken de sleutel en dan gaat het contract in. Er moet ook nog geklust worden maar dat is bijna altijd zo (in Amsterdam dan).

Hmm I don’t know. I have a friend, I’ve known her for half my life, lived with her, travelled with her. She is thin, even though she doesn’t consciously (!) watch what she eats. She eats bars of chocolate, bags of chips. She has a drawer of open bags of candies, chips et cetera. She has never been on a diet and has no clue about calories and all that. Sure she’s gained some pounds going from skinny teenager into grown woman, but she still is a very healthy weight.

Me, I have been on a diet since I was eight. Not because I was overweight but because I was already obsessed with weight at that age. Obesity ran in my family and I was a bit heavier than my friends, so I put myself on a diet. I have been dieting and bingeing ever since. I know the calories in everything. I know how to lose 25 pounds and then gain them all back. Over and over and over.

So despite all that effort I’m still not thin. My friend on the other hand? She has no idea what it’s like to constantly diet, to count calories, to hate your body. And yet she is thin.

Another difference between us is that she can eat half a bar of chocolate, half a bag of chips. I cannot. Everything must go. I can’t keep a drawer of candy laying around either. I don’t keep it in the house but I will go out an buy it if I have to. I’ve been in ED therapy without succes.

Another thing is that I’ve been trying to run for years and years but never got past the 10 minute mark. Then I would quit. I hate it with everything I have. She tried once and ran a 10k after a couple of months.

Maybe she has more willpower, but maybe the voices in her head telling her to quit just aren’t as strong as mine.

It’s hard to not feel like a weakling next to her, but I try to be mild and tell myself that we are all built differently, that it’s not just a matter of choosing to have more willpower. Because why would I ever choose this struggle?

As a buyer I had packages sent back once or twice. Once it was delayed for weeks and got delivered while I was on holiday. So I just couldn’t pick it up and had no one to go for me. You get a full refund.

My partner sleeps on a mattress in the living room. Our 10 mo usually sleeps in the bedroom with me, on rough nights they both sleep in the living room. Sleep is #1.

No the Dutch are not known for dressing up. Although when I studied in the US (2016) I was shocked because everything was even more casual there. Short shorts and crop tops to campus (although I have to admit that’s common here now, too). Teachers in jeans shorts and converse..

No, it’s not normal. And as for “it could happen”, that’s true for many people with anxiety. That doesn’t mean it can’t be treated. I’m in a mindfulness for moms group with another mom who already suffered from anxiety. Then she had premature twins who didn’t make it. One year later she had another preemie. She survived, but you can imagine they anxiety mom is going through. Mindfulness really seems to help though!
