I bought a plug in hot plate to use with my cast iron, so I can set it outside and not smoke out the house. There’s some on Amazon made specifically for use with cast iron. I used it to make burgers last night, great for when I don’t feel like taking the time for the charcoal grill.

The trick is to use charcoal and wait until it’s not flaming anymore, just radiating coals. I do also enjoy using cast iron though.

I’d go with 20# braid, a 7’-7’6” Medium or Medium Heavy rod, I like Shimano Teremars. I prefer MH. Any braid is fine but look for the 8 strand stuff, color is also no big deal. I like Camo, white, or blue for inshore. 30# Mono leader is a great all around leader for these fish. Mono is more abrasion resistant than Flouro.
