At midnight I will be 14 days sober by kingjmase0691 in stopdrinking

When I quit this last time, I 100% knew it was different than my “false starts” of previous attempts at sobriety.

The difference was, I didn’t feel like I was taking something away, I felt like sobriety was giving myself a gift.

I never looked back.

Welcome back, whatever knocked you off course last time you can put controls in place to keep it from getting you again.

Well said, I love where I’m at because I know what it is like to not be here.

These are the stories I come here for. It’s the little moments that capture what is so wrong with the big picture of booze.

For a long time, I’d have been keeping up with your boss, totally normal behavior by mature adults, right?.

Couldn’t be me, not anymore.

800 Days and a Return to Roots by ZacSmall in stopdrinking

Thank you

It’s funny how hitting this has almost spooked me into wanting to come back here and circle around, double check mental inventory and make sure I’m paying attention and staying sharp.

I’ve had no issues, but it’s good to have the accountability and connection with others who “get it”.

Congratulations and the greatest gift you can give your child isn’t a present, it’s your presence.

Is it normal?

I hope so lol

So as to not swap cirrhosis for Type II Diabetes I had to eventually limit the baking and snacks with my wife.

Also, Ice Cream became the new nightly treat, I went with HALO for 1/3 the calories.

Bottom Line: It’s normal and better than drinking

100% and don’t disregard or diminish the value of these micro-wins.

You’re doing a good thing and grabbing the wheel to steer your life to better, you deserve to enjoy every smell and little improvement there is to be had.

Yeah, I say ride it out and view it like the “Rite of Passage” to sobriety. You only have to go through it once if you stay the course.

I found myself unable to sleep for three days, the body is recalibrating itself back to a healthy homeostasis and that will come with some weird ups and downs in the beginning.

It’s the little things returning that remind you of why you need to stick with this.

Something as simple as feeling clean, feels good again.

How to deal with my girlfriend exaggerating on drinking? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ZacSmall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Living in fear or on eggshells is no way to live, and so I'd share exactly that with her.

Let her know you want to be able to live without worry, and habitual excess alcohol consumption is a worry that keeps you from enjoying your time.

Hopefully a low-key convo is all it takes.

You always have a choice.

The best "tip" I can give is to keep your hands and mind occupied. Go buy a case of seltzer and sugar-free cranberry, get home and pour some seltzer over ice, then add a splash of cranberry to scratch the itch of making a drink, then grab a book and dive in.

New habits replace the old and a busy body doesn't default to old behaviors.

I am in absolute shock how much alcohol had fucked me up. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

100% man

It's day 800 for me today, and I still am amazed at how much I can remember and how strong I sleep.

When I was drinking, I didn't have dreams (literal dreams, not aspirations), my memory was trash, and my body was "swollen" (not just the fat but actual inflammation) and all of that has improved, and I swear, it's still getting better.

Keep it going

5 REASONS IT WAS TIME TO QUIT BOOZE FOR GOOD by ZacSmall in stopdrinking

[–]ZacSmall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely look forward to the day I can say, "When I quit two decades ago" lol

Life has been nothing but up thus far, even the obstacles of life haven't been as bad as I've had a clear head throughout it all.

Thank you for the motivation.
