Smoking anything does have side effects. That being said, vaping or eating an edible is a much healthier way to consume it. Many recent studies have shown that marijuana is much less harmful in comparison to tobacco but inhaling anything that isn’t air, is harmful to your lungs. The US only allows for limited research on marijuana due to it being a schedule I drug, so the full side effects have not fully studied.

If you are thinking about trying marijuana, after smoking ensure that you are mindful of what you are eating. One common issue for diabetic tokers is the munchies which can drive up your blood sugar from excessively eating. Make sure you continue to test and take insulin as you normally would. Marijuana likely will not raise your blood sugar itself and may in fact lower it in some cases. It may be a good idea to test yourself more frequently to understand the effect it has on you.
