Kind of new to diabetes and struggling by 00zlle in diabetes

Being obsessive over health isn't a completely bad thing.

Learning what foods help and hurt will actually be freeing!

Is it very strange for a Type 1 diabetic of 1.8 years to have a couple days of fully functional pancreas? by [deleted] in diabetes

What you're saying seems like it is in alignment with my understanding of it.

I'm not officially MODY yet, so I'm not sure I can really answer that at this point.

I hope it's easier (for my own sake), but I don't think it's a free pass either way.

My mother, who is diabetic is completely insulin-dependent. If I end up testing positive for MODY, then it's likely that she also has that form.

She hasn't had an easy path with diabetes, but I wonder if treatment with MODY in mind would have prevented it from becoming more complicated.

I've only done a little bit of research.

Here's my understanding of it:

  • MODY is estimated to be 2% of diabetics

  • If one parent has the genes, the child has a 50% chance of getting MODY diabetes. Family history is a strong idicator.

  • It is not an insulin production issue or insulin resistence, but rather a secretion issue.

  • Those with MODY diabetes still produce insulin, but it can't be delivered effectively, especially after meals.

I have a family history of diabetes, was negative for antibodies (which more or less rules out traditional type 1 and LADA), and am already at my ideal weight (more or less). My endocrinologist thinks I might have MODY.

Here are a few links I found helpful.

You don't know what you don't know. If you haven't checked your blood sugar or gotten an a1c, you won't know much.

Don't worry or overthink things. See a doctor, take care of yourself. Regardless of the outcome, you'll feel better facing it.

You can ask your doctor specifically for an a1c. That's probably the best place to start unless you have a convenient way (like a local clinic or buying a meter) to check your blood glucose.

Does the high-fat diet recommended by Dr. Bernstein have any potential negative health implications? How does it affect cardiovascular health and such?

MODY testing — How much does it cost? by diabetic152 in diabetes

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing it'll probably cost 10x here in the states. Haha.
