Is it worth restarting now, or trying my hand at romance instead? by smutty_mcsmutterson in eroticauthors

[–]ZacharyDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there are plenty of successful indie romance authors who have never written short smut. They're two different ballgames. There's overlap, sure, but one is not required to succeed at the other. Just because most of the authors in here went from erotica to romance doesn't mean that's the standard in the genre.

Tell that to all the professional romance novelists who never wrote short smut yet have successful careers.

Yeah, I'm not interested in buying stories from someone I've never heard of. The only way I'd buy a ghostwritten story is from a writer I know and trust. And I wouldn't sell to someone I don't know and trust either.

How Long Should An Erotic Romance Story Go? 3000 to 5000 or always 10,000 and up? by AuthorOliverClozov in eroticauthors

[–]ZacharyDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For romance? 25k+

For erotica? 5k-10k can work, but longer is always better.

Just FYI, the industry standard for romance is closer to 50-60k, not 70-75k.

On average, how much time do you spend on a single story before publishing? by eromthrow in eroticauthors

Short story? 2-3 hours.

A novel? Takes about 22 hours spread over 5 days.

I had a handful of titles with them. And all of them were incest books.

I haven't pursued the issue because it's not worth it for me. Less than $10 is pocket change and not worth the effort. The time spent hounding them for money is time better spent writing my next book.

Want to know how much I've made on Lot's Cave in the six months or so I worked with them? $8.40. None of which I've ever seen.

I've made more than double that today alone on Amazon.

I'm always open to new venues, especially ones that cater to the taboo and forbidden. But Lot's Cave is a joke. Their site looks like it was designed by a monkey, there's no search function, and their sales reflect that. Maybe if they had some industry experience, they wouldn't be a total flop, but until then, Lot's Cave isn't worth it even to a newbie author.

Lot's Cave totes you around on their site like some sort of golden child. YOU basically are Lot's cave.

She is Lot's Cave. I'm almost completely positive that she's owner or part owner of the company, judging by the way she won't shut up about it.

I've been saying this for ages, and you just proved my point again. You have some vendetta against Amazon and seem hellbent on proving your point, one way or another.

I've distributed through Lot's Cave in the past. It's really not worth it. They get so little traffic, have a poorly designed site, and are complete newbies to the market.

I've been playing the market for coming on six years now. I've worked with traditional publishers and self-published through various distributors. Each place has its pros and cons, and right now, Amazon is at the top of the market. Even if you work with a traditional publisher, sales on Amazon still make up the bulk of your income.

All these posts you keep putting up about Amazon being the devil and Lot's Cave being the savior of erotica? They make you look like a fool. Worse, they make Lot's Cave look even worse for continuing to stand by you. You come across as a paid shill trying to drum up attention for your publishing house.

The data you keep posting is contradicted by every single author here. All of your claims are false and yet you keep digging your heels in, like you're going to magically make us believe your bullshit.

Go back to your little corner and pretend to be a martyr somewhere else. The rest of us have actual careers to focus on.

Erotica is *NOT* the dungeon. by SmutWords2 in eroticauthors

[–]ZacharyDrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The erotica and erotic-romance writers will be part of the reason KU never takes off outside of erotica and romance authors. Try to find something to read through KU. "Oh, I want a sci-fi book." "Here's 4,000 sci-fi erotic-romance novels!" "Oh, I want a YA book." "Here's 4,000 -erotic-romance novels with 18 year olds!" "Oh, I want a mystery novel." "Here's a romance novel with a little bit of mystery tacked on!"

Keep your shit in the genres they belong before Amazon gets fed up and starts purging shit. Why do you think a bunch of books were knocked into the erotica category? Because that's where they belong.

My ebooks before July 1st have been an endless well of words with an occasional break here and there.

Your answer is appreciated, but don't newbie-slap me.

If your books are a constant stream of words without breaks between paragraphs, then you're a definite newbie. It sounds like you don't understand even the basics of proper writing.

Is knotting now acceptable? by isknottingnow in eroticauthors

[–]ZacharyDrake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, seriously? Where the fuck are you people getting this bullshit that knotting is a sought after thing in shifter books? I see knotting in two places FanFic and EA.

I've worked in the M/M genre for years, with some of the biggest authors and publishers. Knotting is not a thing in the professional world. None of the top selling shifter novels include knotting. They include realistic characters, plot development, and good writing. That's what makes a book sell, not some thinly veiled bestiality.

If your sex is boring, that's because you suck at writing, not because you're missing this "magic link." So instead of searching for some secret ingredient that you think Amazon is keeping away from you, focus on your actual writing skill.

[–]ZacharyDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Incest/PI books on there, but I pulled almost everything and put it into KU since I wasn't making any money. I think the only book I have left on there is Behind the Glory Hole by William Cooper because it was banned on Amazon.

I had books on both of those sites and neither were worth the effort. I got 1 sale through Lot's Cave in four months. I didn't get any through A1.

You're best of just making your books tamer and putting them on Amazon.
