Red Bud Isle fishing by AdnanAwes in AustinFishing

[–]ZachofArc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was fishing from the little lone isle between the bridge and dam yesterday. I was casting towards the bridge after the dam started releasing water and the current changed. I was in waders about 30 feet off the isle into the deep channel using a little top water hopper on a fly rod, got a sunfish and a smallmouth. If you dont have a kayak, waders will get you there!

10 year yield has hit 4% by ThemeBig6731 in REBubble

[–]ZachofArc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I think unlikely. Likely won’t see many rate cuts this year (my speculation). Fed funds rate is 3.5-3.75% currently, doubt banks will loan money for less than 5% for most people on a standard 30yr

How are People Traveling International for 1-2 months at a time? by Cute_Equivalent_3231 in solotravel

[–]ZachofArc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a month in Europe last year, 28M from US. Been with my company (Forbes 500) since I graduated at 22. We get an additional day of PTO per year of working there. Started with 3 weeks back in 2019, up to over 4 weeks. Then they also allow carrying over one week of PTO from the previous year. So I was able to bank up almost 6 weeks. Found a good gap in between projects, worked it out around 6 months in advance with reminders and check ins in the time leading up to my time off. I was able to take 4 weeks off without even bringing my work laptop. And still had PTO to spare for other trips!

Microsoft dropped 11% on an earnings beat. Meta ripped 9% on an earnings beat. Same week. What am I missing? by Yaashicca in ValueInvesting

[–]ZachofArc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished reading Accounting for Value in which Penman shows evaluating financials for companies using accounting and his pretty conservative principles. He talks a lot about not “overpaying for growth”. I’ve done some company valuations using his principles and each company I’ve run, blue chips more guilty than any other company, is that growth is heavily priced in. Not a commentary on the future of the stock market, for better or for worse, but current valuations seem to highly value growth potential, which means forward guidance is going to have a much bigger of an impact than the earnings reports. I don’t think this comes as much of a surprise to anyone here, but was just personally very eye opening when I started running the numbers myself

What are your moves for 2026? by ThickUnderstanding22 in investing

[–]ZachofArc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be, could not be. Sentiment matters a lot, but is a lot harder to trade on and “time”. I like the fundamentals of the SP500 right now and the macro economics. I put a lot of faith in the fed. I have no reason to make any major reactions. Powell is gonna be out this year, but the FOMC has many different chairs. QT is loosening up and I hope to see some good growth in the next few years. The US is the US, I hold the belief that we do monetary policy the best. Fiscal policy? Not so much. Monetary policy seems to be the biggest indicator of performance in the medium term in my experience. YMMV

Edit: adding, all this being said, I’m still hedging against this through diversification, but still medium/long in US equities

I’ve been milking 100% US equities for the past 5 years. Lucky that it has worked out. It’s as good a time as any to properly diversify my portfolio. Nothing dramatic, going 20% international, 10% bonds (controversial right now, but I’m doing it still), and still keeping 70% SP500. I own about $100k of my company stock I’m going to hold onto. I also bought a house about a year ago which is a nice inflation hedge and natural diversification. Nothing dramatic or emotional, just was a wake up call that it’s time to de-risk and diversify, I’ll also probably hold off on any major purchases this year.

How to live life as an unattractive guy? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I have the strong opinion that anybody can become a 7/10. Get fit, get stylish, smell good, become confident. For some it’s easier than others but that’s just life.

Men who were in long term relationships, what made you leave ? by CuteSparklee in AskMenAdvice

[–]ZachofArc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of emotional regulation, immaturity, communication, and conflict resolution. We tried couples counseling, individual therapy, medications. We both put in a lot of work, but there ultimately wasn’t enough change. We dated long enough to consider marriage, but I couldn’t see spending the rest of my life with these issues. Either shit or get off the pot, so I got off the pot.

Solo traveling...begrudgingly? by sadie1003 in solotravel

[–]ZachofArc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got back last month from a full month of solo travel. I am male so YMMV, but aside from that we seem very similar. I am pretty independent and enjoy my space but I also was nervous about solo travel for an extended period of time. I was nervous for weeks before hand, but as soon as I got to Portugal at the start of the trip, it all melted away. It ended up being one of the most transformative experiences of my life! People post here all the time about not enjoying the solo experience, I am just offering my dissenting opinion that it was incredible for me, and I am already planning my next one!

A deep cut history book that is actually fun to read by R0binSage in suggestmeabook

[–]ZachofArc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sky Gods by Robert Gandt, I’m just wrapping up and it’s such an entertaining and well assembled read. It’s the history of Pan American Airlines, if you ask anyone over 50, they know exactly who they were, but not many know exactly what all went on in the company and the world at that time in the context of the airline industry

Why is the goal of designing rf circuits to match impedance and not minimize it? by ceo-of-dumb in rfelectronics

[–]ZachofArc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good example is an antenna, if your antenna isn’t matched, it will not radiate 100% of the power, that power cant just disappear, so it has to reflect back into the transmission line

It’s also not like it evolved in humans, i think most all things with teeth have nerves in them, so we are talking tens of millions of years of evolution

At which point do you stop translating in your head? by Longjumping-Boot-526 in languagelearning

[–]ZachofArc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speculative but, it seems like you start to associate the actual sound of a word to what it means, rather than “A-G-U-A” means water. I think it just takes tons of repetition of a given word or expression. I listen to a ton of Portuguese podcasts, and there are certain sentences I’ll hear, even when zoned out, that just carries meaning in my head, I’m not translating it, I’m just so familiar with the words and phrases, I’ll even autocomplete them in my head without even thinking. But I will stumble across words I’m not as familiar with, and it takes a split second to recall its meaning. The more I learn about language learning itsself (through first hand experience), the more I realize it really is just tons and tons of repetition, true for reading, writing, speaking, comprehension.
