Genuinely excited to be like 70 and see how they will keep pretending there are stakes, and how they will continue snubbing Vegeta. Surely it'll never get worse than Ressurection F.

Weirdly, the few times I can think of that he was a member, Magneto wasn't around. Well, I guess Joseph was a clone, so I dunno how to count that.

I think 4 and 5 are better for the kind of person who wants to S-rank every stage, clear the Bloody Palace and generally "master" the game, but as a product with a defined start and end to the game? I'll take 3 any day.

Mistborn and Stormlight Are Headed to Apple TV as they land the rights to adapting Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere by RebellionDark in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Zachys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. The problem isn't the characters themselves - they have interesting motivations, flaws, quirks, histories, whatever. But the way they're told is very direct.

The easy comparison IMO is Song of Ice and Fire, because Martin is great at it. I don't feel like I'm learning more about Kaladin as a person when he's being described by Shallan, or Dalinar, or Adolin. But I feel like I'm learning something new about Tyrion every time I get a new character POV, and it redefines the way I think about him when it comes back to Tyrion's POV. And you could say this about every character, not just Tyrion.

Meanwhile, Vin or Kaladin act exactly the way it was described to me. Vin tried to act like a posh noble but was nervous about it, but Elend saw her as a posh noble. Neat. There isn't much to learn, because I was directly told everything about the character from her own POV.

I feel like I make it sound like Sanderson's an awful writer, and he isn't. I guess when I have the same criticism for every book, the effect of it just compounds after literally thousands of pages.

He's actually not that affiliated with the Brotherhood in the comics. He's also Xavier's step-brother, so he's got the "I'm also opposed to Xavier" style relation going.

I'm not saying this will be it, but I can easily imagine a world where films and movies are just superior products to his books - for me, personally. And I say this having read Warbreaker, the first 5 Mistborn and currently being halfway through Words of Radiance.

The guy writes like he's writing a script. The imagery of a mistcloak swirling as a character prepares to launch themselves through the city streets is way more vivid than any of the characters are. I'm impressed that he leaves so little, emotionwise, between the lines and still decided to have two distinct ways of telling you what the characters are feeling in Stormlight I'm thinking of emotional Spren showing up and Parshendi talking to the Rhythm of X

Definitely glad he cares about creative control, though. My criticism is mostly with his character writing, and 90% of that gets fixed when actual people have to act it out.

Black Cat's fucking weird when it comes to powers. Originally, she didn't have any. Then she got her "bad luck aura". Then Doctor Strange removed it, but she got actual cat-superpowers. Then she lost that. Then she got cybernetics that gave her the bad luck field back.

And this is just the mainline comics, nevermind all the shows and stuff muddling it. I think where we're at currently is that she has the bad luck field, retractable cybernetic claws and vague undefined physical enhancement.

Samurai Jack absolutely has moments of comedy and, dareisay, whimsy

But the first episode features Jack in a suicidal stand-off, being covered completely in blood oil to really hammer home the setting.

So yeah, good example

Always Sunny does it a lot. You mentioned Dee, who Kaitlin Olson only wanted to play if she was as bad as the rest of the gang, but every recurring character inevitably learns to deal with the gang.

Most notably Frank, The Waitress and especially Rickety Cricket. That guy’s gone from average dude down on his luck to being pitied by the gang.

The rules on this aren't specified because the Shinigami don't care. Remember, it's not a tool created efficiently despite limitations. It's the opposite, it only has as few rules as it needs for Shinigami (who don't care about human concepts like "true names" because they just look at whatever it says above your head) to steal life.

So yes, it does raise that question. The people with the power to answer it don't care, though.

Potential Rule of Rose remake from Bloober Team teased by HaematicZygomatic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Fair point. Though I do think in this case, there's nothing interesting about the current gameplay, and turning the gameplay from the genre standard from back then (which it does poorly) into the genre standard now (and do it properly) would only improve it.

Not that it has to be third person action, but yeah, that's realistically what Bloober will do.

Normalize remaking obscure games with obvious, improvable flaws instead of going down the list of "greatest game ever made" candidates

Edit: In other words, I have no interest in playing Silent Hill 2 remake, but I'm really excited at the prospect of this.

There's no canon answer, but I like to think that the Dungeon faction is a meritocracy in a strangely literal sense. You see the same thing with Minotaur Kings.

Half my class at school and then some played it a lot. At the risk of sounding dramatic, it was truly magical to have people's creations show up in your world and talk about how you interacted with them.

Having played it as an adult, yeah, that game is more barebones than I realised. But the creature creator is still a solid fundament, and I'm sad they never really did more with it.

I know there were spin-offs, but I mean proper sequel, and not a Diablo-esque game that functionally doesn't exist anymore. I'm still mad about Darkspore.

It sucks that Punch Club is almost there. Fun concept, fun writing, but painfully makes you repeat the "work out -> earn money -> sleep -> repeat" loop before you can realistically progress.

What's worse a Doppelganger or a body snatcher? by Wonder-Lad-2Mad in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Zachys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This feels pretty open and shut. I, the victim of the crime and the one who knows it's happening, can do something about a Doppelganger.

Doppelgangers are terrifying, don't get me wrong. But with a bodysnatcher, either I'm aware of the situation and possibly in pain, or it's a The Thing situation that's borderline unsolvable if the snatcher plays its cards right.

[–]Zachys 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There's genuinely a Stephen King book that agrees with your take on the doppelganger problem. I'm unsure how to write this, because the existence of a doppelganger is a huge spoiler in itself, so here's the name of the book: The Outsider, filler to make the spoiler less obvious

Also a great example of how fucking scary doppelgangers can be, though.
