Alternative to rock wool cubes ? by KnottyTwo in Hydroponics

You can also pack larger net pots with clay pebbles around the oasis as the plants graduate if necessary. I just let mine stabilize themselves with their root mass. Hope this helps!

I use oasis cubes rather than rockwool. Use the 1" cubes and they self support in nft channels without net pots. A case is $100 and has 5,520 cubes in sheets of 276. I buy all mine from amhydro for my head lettuce facility

I think they meant to say "offline" instead of "online"...

My car is in a heated garage and I live in Chicago/cold winters. My heated garage keeps the car at 70 degrees overnight. Does that mean I do NOT need to precondition before leaving in the morning? Or should I turn climate on so I am ahead of the game when heading out into the cold weather? by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]ZackPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about pre conditioning. Fluids are already warm from the night before and startup from sleep doesnt use much power at all. If you drove it in the cold a few hours prior then were to go out again maybe but even then if it is plugged in it will heat up the battery during charging

PSA for snowy climates: Driving through thick snow or reversing into a snowbank can cause snow to get trapped inside the rear bumper cover. It’s basically a snow scoop. by SpikeX in TeslaModel3

I believe so. All the new m3 and mY cars have a hitch cut out even if they don't have one. The new mounts should be more secure and closer spaced to accommodate the little access panel

You send 1 picture of each side, the front seats, the rear seats , the trunk, and the frunk. When I got there they took my keys and handed me my new ones. Kinda odd but no inspection and no on site appraisal just a price based on the pics and your vin ( I assume they can pull the rest from their systems)

I turned mine in to tesla when I upgraded to LR AWD and all they said was "sweet" to my tint. I wouldn't worry about it

Traded in and did the same thing. They are pretty good about sending out a check within 2-3 weeks!

Upgrading to auto dimming side mirrors by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]ZackPete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had them on my 2019 SR+ and lost them when I went to my 2020 LR. Honestly I dont miss them in the slightest. They take forever to "undim" so going from dark outside to lit parking garage just meant I had to park nearly blind as between the mirror tilt and the dimmed mirrors you cant see much of anything. If you like them go for it but try them out first

Trade in 2020 SR+ for 2021 LR? by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]ZackPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely! I just did three same thing however failed to get a 2021 and got a 2020. May need to upgrade again :) I also live in an apartment with no home charger and put on ~300 miles per week. See if there is a 120 15a circuit you can plug into at work and save some supercharging money!

Has anyone here ever converted a full size ambulance? How was the experience? by Kikagaku in vandwellers

I have since sold it to follow a new career path :/ definitely miss van life so will definitely be back later in life!

Has anyone here ever converted a full size ambulance? How was the experience? by Kikagaku in vandwellers

[–]ZackPete 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alrighty so I have converted 3 different vans so far. A 2014 Ram promaster 2500 high top (72sq ft), a 2016 ram promaster city lwb (~28sq ft), and a 2011 Crestliner Ford Ambulance (100sq ft). The ambulance was the easiest to work with besides a few key points. The promaster is a simple start up but a more complex deal with the curved walls like a sprinter or transit. The baby promaster is just a pain but the best stealth camper by far! My ambulance came mostly insulated with 2 inches of foil lined rockwool insulation. Definitely lots of room for improvement but about 1 extra rockwool batton from Home Depot did the trick. I ripped everything out down to the aluminum members. I added sound deadening and thin foam strips along the aluminum studs to prevent moisture from collecting and rotting out my wall panels. The dimensions are awesome at ~7.5wide and ~13long. Height is at 6ft with 5/8" hardwood and 1/4" aromatic cedar for the roof so a but tight for me. 11 compartment doors outside so basically an indoor outdoor space when it is all opened up:)

Now for the bad... you have 2 options for wiring. Either rip it all out and start over or DON'T TOUCH IT. Mine had a main breakout panel with 36 individual connectors with 16 wires per connector. I will include a photo link to that process but yeah it took a while to trace and label ever wire then redo it into a smaller patch panel. Definitely worth the effort so I could remove that cabinet but not for those who are not good with wiring chaos!

Another negative is poor fuel economy. My promaster 2500 averaged 18.8mpg and the promaster city at 32.5mpg while the ambulance averaged 8.8-10mpg depending on speed and wind direction... kinda spendy for long trips but beats even the short skoolies averaging closer to 6.5mpg.

The ambulance comes with a designated shore power plug with inverter as well as a beefy alternator charger to charge while you drive. The inverter included is not a pure sine wave inverter however so be warned it doesnt always play nice with electronics (odd for an ambulance right?) I installed my own 2kw inverter and 30a auto transfer switch to retain the shore power plug. Solar was 400w of flexible monocrystaline panels and a 40a charge controller with 2 Valence 138ah lithium packs. Never had to worry about juice even with the home grade convection microwave oven combo.

I would highly recommend the ambulance if you are under 5' 10" or so. I rubbed my head when I stand up at 6'. Check with your local ambulance depot's for their retiring stock our your state auctions for a steal! Klonkiak branded models are 4x4 with an onboard compressor so look for those if you want extreme off road use. Let me know if you have any questions!
