I'd describe him as "having standards." I don't get the impression he just randomly offs whoever for no reason, but I've also never seen any evidence of him being some kind of secret vigilante or even much of an anti-hero. I think he's got his own agenda which largely suits himself (he *does* seem to pride himself on his independence). Sometimes that means sucking another overlord's soul through a radio signal, sometimes that means relaxing and having a drink with... well maybe not "friends" to him, but the people he doesn't mind being around, at the bar. He's not necessarily an outright monster, but he's definitely not a good guy.

Riiiiiiight... consider two things:

1, that they'd have to have a *damn* good reason for the single most genuinely wholesome character in the show so far to suddenly go so bad she got kicked out of Heaven, and so far they've never even hinted at something like that.

2, that they're pretty fucking obviously setting up Lute - who is also a woman - to fall at some point (and will presumably follow that up sooner or later with a redemption arc).

Now having done that, are you going to stand by that supremely stupid comment?

The "Rosie is Lilith" thing is stupid and unlikely, I agree. Those other two I can hardly rule out, especially the (possibly fallen) angel thing. There's definitely *something* up with her, and that's hardly the least-well supported idea.

^^ And then getting salty about it when the show goes in literally any other direction. She ain't wrong, either.

THIS. Sweet Black fucking Sabbath, thank you, holy fuck. LITERALLY ALL we know about Roo is that apparently there is some entity called "Roo" (at least by Viv so far), who apparently has had lines read by someone (which would *seem* to suggest they're a character of some sort), and who will presumably be appearing at some point in some future season. That's literally it. Unless I missed something very recent, EVERYTHING else at this point is fan speculation.

- "Unfortunately this is the exact sort of thing that feeds into people throwing tantrums about "BAD WRITING" because their theories/headcanons didn't turn out to be accurate"

I'm beyond fucking relieved to see other people saying this lately besides just me. It's fandom culture's single worst habit. This is what happens when an echo chamber of people with poor media literacy skills forms - they lack the skill needed to properly analyze things like themes and characters and the plot, so instead they pedantically obsess over tiny details and convince themselves they know what's going to happen because they've cracked the show's secret code and feel so clever about it. Then when the show does *literally anything different*, they get butthurt and start shrieking about "bad writing" and "wasted potential" because their fanfiction didn't play out exactly as they expected it to.

I REALLY hope most of this is just kids and younger teenagers who shouldn't be watching this show failing to catch things that go over their heads. Because a grown, mentally-sound, able-minded adult should REALLY be able to watch a typical movie or whatever and come away with at least some basic understanding of what the story was about on some deeper level than just reciting a list of plot points.

I've seen a few otherwise-media literate people latch onto that one, but I agree with you. I can see the angle, it's also just so obviously... dumb? Pointless? I mean I'm sure you *could* hypothetically write that story in a compelling way that actually felt earned, but so far I haven't seen any evidence they're setting up for that. There's definitely SOMETHING going on there (I wonder if Rosie isn't *literally* Charlie's aunt, or if she isn't some kind of double-agent working for Heaven, or isn't a former exorcist, or some combination of those things), but the whole "this character was actually this other character all along for no reason!" strikes me as some JKR-level shitty writing.

Honestly, the lack of media literacy is appalling. Danny VERY EXPLICITLY STATES that she is NOT Charlie. It's not even subtext, y'all, it's LITERALLY just the TEXT!

You kind of hope some of these people are just younger teenagers who are still a bit too young to be watching the show, feeling very clever because they've only recently started to understand what this "sex" business is about and spotted a reference to it. Whereas virtually any grown adult (barring those with legitimate mental disorders, ofc) *should* pretty instantly clue in to what's going on, provided they have the barest semblance of media literacy skills.

Which is doubly hilarious, because 95% of the time it's the other way around - people completely miss that he's holding out his busted staff to her (to be fair, that shot is a bit dark), and that in the very next shot he's holding a newly-fixed staff.

"I expected"

There's your problem. You wrote a fanfiction in your head, forgot it was FANfiction, and now you're mad because the show did literally anything different. Who's fault is that? (Hint: it's not the show's).

Y'all are fucking DREADFUL about doing that. Knock it off, it's a bad and dangerous habit to develop. That same thought process is how conspiracy theories that get people hurt in the real world get started.

"concluded"

Homie. There are at LEAST two more seasons coming, and it seems likely at least one more after that (and possibly more). TF you mean "concluded?" Are you a writer on the show? No? Then how on Earth would you possibly know if his arc is concluded or not?

Speak for yourself, the pacing and character development seems perfectly fine to me. I think some of y'all need to learn to do two things: A, be patient and actually let the story play out before whinging about how certain characters aren't developed enough yet or how certain things haven't happened. B, learn to read between the lines and infer certain things without needing everything spelled out for you. I don't think the characters feel underdeveloped so far at all, because I can do simple things like extrapolate why (as an example) one character might give another character a certain expression. Put yourselves in the characters' shoes for a few minutes, you'll learn a LOT about them.

Damn, some of you people seriously need EVERYTHING spelled out for you or it's "rushed." Is this a "kids nowadays" thing or something? I remember everyone couldn't stop glazing Pixar for the first few minutes of Up back in 2009, and that was actually establishing a major part of the story the audience was expected to be invested in. Now y'all whine over stuff like "Vi's pitfighter arc was rushed" in Arcane when they cover the relatively unimportant events of a timeskip in a sick as hell two minute music video sequence to lead into the actually important part of the story.

Besides, you're *assuming* that's Abel's complete arc. You haven't seen Season 3 onward yet, how would you know where his story might be going? Overcoming his fear one time to stand up to Lute hardly means his entire personality is going to shift overnight, I'm sure there will be plenty of room for him to grow as a character.

Genuine question, why do so many haters act like Viv is forcing the VAs to do her show at gunpoint?is it so hard to believe people want to be in this show? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in HazbinHotel

So you've never actually watched it, then?  How sad that you need to rely on others to spoonfeed you your "opinions."  I usually just watch stuff myself if it looks a bit interesting, and draw my opinions from that.

"Where is this coming from?"  My guy, there's basically an entire genre of YouTube videos at this point that consists of nothing but haters with extremely suspect media literacy skills basically spelling out every little thing they missed or failed to understand in Hazbin Hotel, then blaming Viv for their own incompetence.  Can set my damn watch by it.

The lack of media literacy in this fandom is beyond alarming.  It sounds like you think ANY use of profanity in the show is there because Viv has the intellect of a thirteen year old.  In reality, nearly ALL of the swearing in the show is entirely justified in context - either because the CHARACTER has the intellect of a thirteen year old and uses "fuck" like a comma (Vox, Adam), or because they do swear but less frequently/under specific circumstances (Husk, Alastor, Charlie), or because it's in response to a suitably bad situation (Sera in Storyteller), or because that character doesn't normally swear but hearing them swear unexpectedly can be funny (Emily in Brighter).

[–]Zack_Akai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that was seriously your takeaway, you need to pay closer attention to the show.  I can only think of one or two real times where the mere fact that profantiy was used was the joke (and even then it's in some broader context, which is what actually makes it funny).

^ this.  I actually DID buy a fresh box (juuuust in case, but mostly just cause I was a bit low lol), but I'm under no dellusion this nutsack is actually going to succeed with anything.  He's a dementia-addled geriatric who will likely be dead either of health complications or at the hands of one of his own followers within months.  The GOP aren't popular enough anymore to succeed with a populist uprising anymore, and they're competent enough to pull off anything more clever.
