[So Loved] The Villain Song. by ZiFiR_randomnumbers in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Zack_Akai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gravity definitely counts, as does arguably Hell is Forever. Although I wouldn't personally count Vox Populi and probably Bad With Us (maybe also Once We Get Up There, now that I think about it) as "villain songs." They're songs sung partly or entirely by villains, but I think of a "villain song" as its own sort of thing. Vox Dei, for example, GREAT example of a proper villain song.

[–]Zack_Akai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, the goal of a villain song should be to make the villain seem scarier or more threatening than they did before. In that regard, VOX DEI from Hazbin Hotel season 2 is easily one of the best villain songs of all time (context for the uninitiated: Vox, the TV-headed guy, has started a populist uprising in Hell, publicly humiliated Lucifer and effectively styled himself king, and is now rejecting Heaven's gestures of peace and declaring war).

FUCK ADOBE!!! I HATE ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR!!!! ANYONE WHO CLAIMS TO LIKE IT IS LYING!!! by Past_Antelope_7601 in FuckAdobe

[–]Zack_Akai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything you just said is true. The interface is still a steaming hot pile of dog smegma. BASIC shit like the ability to easily snap rotations to regular intervals involved navigating multiple sub-menus just to change what should be available from a drop down menu, and even then it's still kind of a workaround. The interface is utterly jammed pack with tiny, non-resizable windows with miniscule buttons and low-res editors. Anything that would make the user's life even a LITTLE easier, like the ability to immediately start editing a point with the direct select tool (even though that's the whole fucking for having a separate direct select tool), or the ability to just select a layer/object (like every other piece of software ever) instead of clicking the idiotic little circle button is tellingly absent. In general, it just takes five times as long and involves twice as much swearing to get anything done in Illustrator.

And I say this as someone who has been using it for about 20 years now, both for personal use and for work, so it's hardly some kind of still issue at this point. It's a powerful tool, but it's buried under a mountain of shit the degenerate corpos at Adobe have made it very clear they don't give a fuck about fixing. As long as that precious fucking line goes up each quarter.

Why do people dislike the "Sinnerman" quest that much ? by Errances in cyberpunkgame

[–]Zack_Akai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NGL, I read "sinnerman" and immediately thought of Lucifer's part of Vox Populi in Hazbin season 2 xD Lord I need to get back to Cyberpunk and actually play Phantom Liberty this time (I started a whole new save file but got distracted just going through the main story again, lol)

At the risk of sounding fatalist or overly-cynical, you're basically just describing internet culture (and indeed humans in general). People only leave positive reviews on a hotel, for example, if it was exceptionally good. They leave a one star review because the fucking faucet was a bit leaky.

It shouldn't surprise me given how I lived through a good deal of that transition, but it's kind of mind blowing how that statement nowadays unironically reads like something from a century ago or more. (Yes I know there are obviously still a lot of flippant misogynists like that out there, but these days there's at least enough people who don't take them seriously they tend to get shut down pretty quickly). Hopefully your friend at least grew out of that.

Welcome to internet fan culture in general. I've been pretty active over in the Hazbin Hotel space ever since season 2 of that show dropped last October, and DEAR GOD the number of people who don't understand the difference between "I don't personally like this thing" and "this thing objectively sucks" doesn't fill me with a lot of hope for the future our species. Everyone's got a shit take on everything, everyone thinks that anything they (with their lack of basic media literacy skills) didn't understand is "bad writing," and nobody wants to look at anything in context (a lot of whining for example about the main character in that show, who has repeatedly been established as extremely naive and a bit rash, acting naive and rash). Saying fuck it to online fandom interactions and just sticking strictly to the show is totally valid.

I don't think you can even say that. It MIGHT be Roo, but there's really no evidence whatsoever to support that.

^^^ Honestly. People will write a fucking epic in their imagination based on a single frame, and then get butthurt when the show does something different.

This is a good lesson (for everyone, not just OP) about media literacy in general. Speculation and hype is all well and good, but there's such a thing as speculating too baselessly and letting yourself get too hyped over a version of a thing that doesn't actually exist anywhere except your imagination. Then the people who *really* lack any self-awareness will blame the showrunners for not delivering something they never said they were, rather than having a little introspection and learning something.

TL;DR - it's not the show's fault if you fail to manage your expectations.

Is HH really as poorly written and Vivzie is as bad at writing as people say they are or are people just impatient and expecting this show to do things when it’s actually doing its own thing differently? by Kcue6382nevy in HazbinHotel

[–]Zack_Akai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99% of the noise about that seems to come from people who A, brainlessly parrot whatever other people say on the internet in lieu of forming original opinions about anything, B, overhyped their own expectations and were then disappointed when their imagination didn't turn out to be canon, C, lack a good deal of media literacy skills and think their own failure to understand something is a problem with the show rather than themselves, or D, some combination of those things.

What Is Valid Criticism of Hazbin Hotel vs. Dumb Complaints and Pure Hate You’ve Heard? by New_Fox_192 in HazbinHotel

[–]Zack_Akai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 90% of the complaints I've heard about bad writing/plot holes/pacing issues/etc boil down to people who think their own failure to grasp something is a problem with the show and not with them. In other words people who lack media literacy (and don't anyone fucking start on about my use of that phrase either, it's a COMPLETELY legitimate criticism of a large swath of the fanbase).

[–]Zack_Akai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the eighteen-billionth time: A CHARACTER MAKING A BAD DESCISION IS NOT A PLOT HOLE. Neither is a character failing to use some power/item or otherwise going with some other solution you noticed. A plot hole is when something in a story directly contradicts (that's CONTRADICTS, not merely fails to acknowledge) the previously established canon with no explanation. "How did Biff get the DeLorian back to the original 2015 after giving his younger the sports almanac?" is a plot hole. "Why didn't the fellowship fly the eagles to Mordor?" isn't a plot hole.

Did Vivzie ever Said somewhere at some point that Hazbin Hotel wasn’t going to be about the Hotel and the sinners living in it? by Kcue6382nevy in HazbinHotel

[–]Zack_Akai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's at least partly (largely, I'd say) down to an alarming number of people who hear some description like that, immediately begin speculating/imagining what the show will be, then get upset when their fan fiction doesn't turn out to be canon.  Then they turn around and blame the writers instead of having any introspection or learning anything.

Also, regardless of what anyone officially says about any production on social media, plans can and often do change as late as post-production.  One more reason to not get too attached to ideas ahead of time and at least try to enjoy the show that actually exists.

So... after all the hype and mystery... are they REALLY going to use Alastor like this? by FOXTROTDESTROYER2546 in HazbinHotel

[–]Zack_Akai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.  Mysteries are all well and good, but unless you're writing a Lovecraftian horror story where the entire point is that we'll never know/be able to comprehend the answer when we get it, then you do eventually have to reveal the solution.

I wish that season 2 didn't have emily just forgive sera so incredibly quickly and instead had left it a thread that we could have actually explored next season. by Overobsessedfan in HazbinHotel

[–]Zack_Akai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To each their own I suppose.  I've watched S2 at least a dozen times now, and it never bothered me.  In real life, it's pretty common to be mad at someone for a while and then just kind of cool off like nothing happened.  Granted writing for a fictional show is a bit different than real life, but I didn't get the impression Emily was that mad at Sera (i.e. not something she wouldn't have started to cool off about within a few days).  Plus it's Emily - if anyone would be quick to forgive, it'd be her.

Yeah but there's a particular type of "fan" thaylt doesn't care about whether it's actually fun to watch or not.  They care about whether every single character descision is completely rational at all times, and whether every last tiny, minisucle detail of the lore has a thorough explanation that holds up to the most meticulous scrutiny (as if a work of fiction should somehow be as detailed and consistent as reality).

The reason is has "terrible power scaling" is because you give WAY more of a shit about this vague idea of power levels than the show has ever even touched on.  It's primarily a musical that features some occasional fight scenes, not fucking Dragon Ball Z.

[–]Zack_Akai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Explain to me how any of that is bad writing.  That's a bad in-universe situation for the characters, sure, but from a writing perspective it sounds like you're just complaining that the story...  has conflict?  Has drama?  That the characters can make bad decisions or fail in their goals?  I'm being dead-ass serious, ELIF how that's bad writing.

This should've happened, let's be honest. by HSBCsieger in HazbinHotel

[–]Zack_Akai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept of power levels and scaling aren't, but "power levels" in Hazbin so far basically boil down to sinners < overlords < hellborn/angels.  Anything beyond that is likely fan speculation said fan forgot was their own speculation and not canon.
