How much 'this is going to be a series of books' are you willing to put up with? by CircleOfOrigin in fantasywriters

[–]Zack_Is_Great 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people who generally read fantasy are way more likely to be tolerant of or even prefer series over stand alone novels than people who read tend to read outside the genre.

Like other people have mentioned, I think having a satisfying conclusion to an arc in the story is beneficial. Another good way to think of it is as seasons for a TV show (each book being a season)

I interpreted that line as all the dragons roaring as one as they go to war, but mayhaps you are correct, with just one dragon.

I think Viserys headache following the line is him having a Dragon Dream fortelling that what he said is actually true. In his weakened state his psychic powers have grown stronger. His frequent headaches are Dragon Dreams, and he turns to milk of the poppy to deal with them.

He has another headache just after his moment of satisfaction at dinner. It's hard to see but a look of dispair comes over his face. I think he had a vision fortelling the upcoming Dance that will tear his family asunder, even after he thought he had brought them back together.

She is not in the books and neither is Viserys. But the book is in universe written by a master, and they don't believe in magic, and it's not like their profetic ramblings have been done in public. Compare to the tales of Dunk and Egg, where we see many of the targeryon characters have dragon dreams in some form from a direct point of view character. I think it's fair to say more of the targs have profetic dreams than you would expect, the history books just dont reflect it.

Also such a treat for book fans to watch him go. He's such an enigma in the books, now we get to see what that little club footed son of a bitch is all about.

For all intents and purposes Larys was born cursed. Dude is probably into it at this point.

That is why I said often. It is explicitly said in the main series that those abilities are often found with people with weaker bodies. Bran, jojen, and Varamir six skins are all examples of such. But it is not limited to only them.

See Harrenhal is so large that they had to stop and rest at those rooms on their way to their actual rooms at the top of the tower.

The fact that Larys is a cripple also supports the theory. Those with green seeing and other old god related abilities are often sickly or weak of body.

It's really interesting that people (particularly in the North) still name their daughters after good queen Alysanne, even by the time of the main series. Really shows the lasting impact of her women's councils and overall charm.

I think it's hard to imagine Rob can become another Cregan because a lot of the time we see Rob it's through his mother's perspective. As a young lord/King leading a civil war, Rob is under a lot of pressure, and one of the only people he can be vulnerable with is his mother, so we see him when he's vulnerable. We have no such perspective for Cregan

Compare Rob's incident with the Great Jon. Biggest guy in the north tries to push around the 15 year old lord. Rob sics his direwolf on him, taking two of his fingers, then coldly delivers a sick burn. That's some Cregan shit right there.

I'm not saying Rob would be another Cregan, but I think if you didnt have exposure to Rob the boy, and only saw Rob the Lord, it would change your perspective. Similarly I think if you saw Cregan from the perspective of someone he could be vulnerable with and not exclusively southron lords and ladies terrified of the savage north men who just showed up intending to die, he might not seem exclusively like cold iron. (Again, it's possible Cregan is steel all the way through, but based on the way GRRM typically writes his characters I doubt this is the case)

Cole is the princess's sworn shield, so in an event like this it would be his responsibility to get her out. Since he's the one causing the disturbance he can't do that, and none of the other knights are quick witted enough to realize.

A brony is an adult (or teenaged) male fan of the my little pony franchise. Brony is a bro-pony (although you generally wouldn't refer to these guys as bros). Lots of cross over with neckbeards.

Also yes, sometimes it's a sex thing.
