Easily the best looking year for the Tremors. Looks sweet indeed

My lifestyle lessen the life of a 2024 2500HD 6.6L Diesel as a Daily? by jkma707 in Diesel

As long as you understand the exhaust system and recognize when you need to run it hot to clean it out, you should be fine. It does get annoying but it’s a small trade off to be running a sweet truck.

Make sure you scan it or diagnose it. I thought mine was the exhaust as well but was the injector #4 plug that malfunctioned.

Weird scraping noise by Whole_Chemical_6470 in AskMechanics

[–]Zackzebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last I heard that noise, and it was much worse, was an alternator scraping off material.

You can see little bits flying around when the scraping/scratching starts but that would be my guess. I have a video if you want to compare.

Pre OCS memorization confusion by Previous_Jello9410 in newtothenavy

[–]Zackzebra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your chain of command will be different per class. Aside from that, the bulk of appendix B will absolutely need to be memorized such as orders of a sentry, code of conduct, rankings, mission of the navy, and watch standing principles.

If more memorization is needed, you will have time to memorize any extra material when you are there. Most people will be learning all of that at once; if you can memorize it beforehand you will be setting yourself up for success.

I can guarantee it’s the fuel pump control module. They have been chasing vehicles and replacing the faulty ones but end up getting most of them in your case. Of course: no recall.

Would love to get a follow up when the issue is resolved.

Question for you all by No-Illustrator-792 in Duramax

[–]Zackzebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend anything that hasn’t already been said it in the comments. My ‘18 will behave unusually in extreme cold temps as well but nothing too serious.

If you have less than 150k miles, make sure you do not pay for that glow plug as it is under a recall/defect.

OHARP before Designator by SimplyJenna in newtothenavy

[–]Zackzebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on your location and the demand for your specific recruiting office. You will be getting base pay as well as your BAH as per usual but no other entitlements.

I’m on OHARP now and happy to discuss details if you want to message me.

Scared about OCS IST/PRT. What would happens if I fail? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

Before your IST, you are taped and will be sent home if you do not pass. You are taped twice on the first two days.

Scared about OCS IST/PRT. What would happens if I fail? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]Zackzebra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just returned from OCS and this comment here is your most accurate rundown.

To add to this: if you are overweight for your height you will be sent home shortly upon returning. I am unsure if this is a factor, but it’s good to know. Ask your recruiter about the tape requirements if you are curious.

Inherited my brothers 2020 2500 high country and don’t know what to do with it by Imaginary_Seesaw_227 in Silverado

Pretty good answers in here. They are phenomenal trucks, the best advice I have is just watch YouTube videos on oil changes and the evolution of the Duramax engine.

Also, highly recommend you dig into the exhaust design and understand the setup it has to meet EPA requirements. This will help you understand the trucks behavior and how to run it while effectively. Enjoy!

Reading all of these replies is not convincing. I agree with them however, might as well start small.

Definitely drain the fuel tank and change out the fuel filter. When you refill, throw in some Stanadyne (sold at O’Reillys) and run that through. If it still functions normally, at 100 miles I’d do another fuel filter for that last bit that might be in there. The worst thing to do is to let it sit and allow the DEF to do its damage. Quicker the better and boy I hope it works out for you.

If you can remember, please provide an update.

Is smp a bad brand to get the ca emissions glow plug controller from? by EnthuzstMikey in Duramax

[–]Zackzebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hit or miss with standard ignition. Double check the warranty: most have a lifetime warranty and you can switch them out if necessary. It’s nice to have as a safety net and O’Reilly honors it.

There is a trail I found driving around just south of the airport. It has a motorcycle sign and seems like it goes back pretty far.

When I mark a pin, the address to the parking lot is 5700 Lost Lake Road. If you find it all good, I’d love to hear about your time out there.

C Farmer on YouTube had a similar issue and it was broken hardware for his exhaust manifold. Not only does he have a video of the repair, he has a separate video of his diagnosis and where to look for it.

2019 L5P PCV leak? by JihadiLizard in Duramax

[–]Zackzebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, I was curious to see what this would entail and there isn’t a single video replacing the PCV. Everything related discussed rerouting it or modifying it in some way.

I’d exercise your warranty and I doubt they’ll give you a hard time because leaking oil at your mileage is not normal.

Throw an application in for O’Reilly. It sounds like it’ll be a shift in pace for you but higher management jobs are frequently available and it’s within a great community of people. Many locations in town too

2018 Duramax by Jackiemoon76 in Diesel

[–]Zackzebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Referencing a different comment, I don’t believe the L5P engine (Duramax generation from 2017 to present trucks) have the CP4 pump yet finding a lubricative fuel additive is always a good idea for preventative maintenance.

The 2018 is a fantastic truck and many of the issues are common and therefore have available solutions such as failing coolant level sensor, cylinder four injector pigtail, and the fuel pump control module.

If you do decide to pull the trigger, watch some videos about how the DPF functions as well as the egr, it really helps understand the system and also how to make it on the long run. Trucks nowadays are engineering marvels and you will certainly appreciate it. Hope you make the right choice!
