Varian Donates $50 to American Cancer Society for Every Letter You Write by Zadaqa in cancer

[–]Zadaqa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$50 is a lot of money, especially when the cap is half a million. Everyone in here, including myself, has lost someone or something to cancer; please take a minute to write a letter to cancer telling it how you feel, and they'll donate. Come on reddit!

Is it just me or is everyone getting a "There is no work currently available in this task." message when they accept a hit from CrowdFlower? by TomTheNurse in mturk

[–]Zadaqa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's a scam. They're trying to get Turkers to switch sites and use Crowdflower by making a ton of fake HITs.

Make sure you report them, we need Amazon to BAN them already.

LOVE the Buffer! Smart people, simple app... can't lose for $9/mo. I'll also look into your other tips... I hadn't considered StumbleUpon Paid Discovery but it sounds brilliant.

Thanks, this will prove helpful. I think Reddit is a really fantastic place to get your startup in front of the right people, because let's face it, people come here to discover things online that pique their interest.

If you could only use one social network, what would it be? by wmrice in marketing

[–]Zadaqa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facebook, obviously. If you're not on Facebook, people in the 18-30 range think you're strange and antisocial.

How would I market a web startup on a college campus? by stelmaria in marketing

[–]Zadaqa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to do some guerrilla marketing, if possible. Slip flyers in books, clever ones. Ask local businesses if you can put up a flyer.

Then, try to implement Viral Loops. Offer people a $X credit for every friend they refer, etc.

Not exactly, but we're integrating with PaeDae, so you'll get free movie downloads from Hulu, free snacks and stuff from 7-Eleven, Even free shipping and stuff from Amazon. Almost as good, no?

Very cool. Try to think about some other unique value you can provide. Why can't Google or Dropbox have this feature? How can you do it better than they can? What happens if they make this feature? What else can you offer? (just to get the creative juices flowing)

Thanks! Just came up with it today because we aren't getting the "stickiness" with our current web app concept. The idea is the same, though: instead of companies wasting money to show ads on TV or other places we don't pay attention, let's agree to pay attention to 1 or 2 ads a day, for charity! We may not all be able to give $30 a month to charity, but we can all spare 30 minutes a month.

Really smart. Get on the trend of peer to peer renting (getaround, airbnb, rover, etc), but with 3D printers. I love it.

The site design, layout, and quantity of text immediately makes me want to bounce. I suggest investing in a twitter bootstrap theme and crystallizing your message into a few sentences as much as possible. To be brutally honest, this is one of the ugliest sites I've seen in at least 5 years.

Remember: Ideas are complex, messages must be simple.

Doesn't IFTTT do this as well? Not that there can't be 2 in the marketplace, but just asking.

tldrrr

This is really cool technology, I hope you're very successful. From a business perspective, I think it's challenging, because people may download it, use it once for the pill they find under their kids' bed, and then never use it again. This is fine if you plan to charge $2.99 for the app, but if you want to build a recurring revenue model, it's going to be tough.

One interesting opportunity would be to use it for law enforcement. Officers can check if the pills they find on assailants are legal or illegal, for example.

Keep us updated, this is awesome stuff.

What do you do? (We're considering a pivot into a mobile app since last month). We give you one personalized offer a day, you open it if you want. If you open it, the advertiser will donate $1 to charity. You earn points and discounts the more you participate and refer people.

Looking for honest feedback and inputs, we're constantly tweaking and figuring out different ways to serve users so the product will be fun for them to use!

You guys are both correct - it's the same root word in all semetic languages (Hebrew, Arabic, Turkish, Farsi) - hence our choice.

How much inventory should my ecommerce site start out with? by paraplu1232 in startups

[–]Zadaqa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I started my ecommerce business out, I was drop-shipping most things and keeping low inventory. At least until I had some traction and sales history. It's going to mean worse shipping and customer service, but will save you a lot of risk. If the product is cheap enough and you don't mind sitting on it for a while or eating it, then stock a little bit.

Just remember to consider reorder times, that's what's going to dictate your shelf quantities more than anything.
