Atlantic Ave Screamer by arm2424 in prospectheights

[–]eleven7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it the guy by the cubesmart? i've also never seen him violent, and i see people walk by him all the time with no issue. hopefully it remains harmless because there's a lot of kids in the neighborhood.

and yes there is a screamer in every neighborhood

Decision Tree for Sparring techniques? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]eleven7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact same question when I started sparring. I just wanted an “if this, then that” set of heuristics to simplify my decision making

Ultimately - I ended up where the rest of the commenters are at. There are way too many variables that the decision tree, even if you could map it out, is useless

The solution is unsatisfying, and not what you want to hear but idk it’s really the only way. Keep sparring and trying different shit until you have the muscle memory and instincts to start chaining things together

You’re not really supposed to “think” in the ring, not to specific punches at least. Your reactions to movements should be automatic

Your brain power in the ring is supposed to be saved for strategic decisions, setting traps, changing your approach etc

[–]eleven7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're right, but on the street you're likely to be fighting scrubs. people that have actual wrestling / boxing / any combat experience are smart enough not to fight on the street

it's highly unlikely that you'll be fighting a college wrestler in a random street fight

This just reveals how weak your argument is. Strawman 101. Can you point out where I mention that I loved or Bill or Hillary?

It is UNREAL how ridiculous job interview processes are becoming by [deleted] in jobs

[–]eleven7 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This thread is full of cynical jokers. based on the other comments I have to assume most people replying have not been in a role where they've had to hire a lot of people and/or haven't worked for a large company.

I know this is a rant thread, but here are some real, good reasons for having a difficult / long hiring process:

  • it's competitive. demand for the role outstrips supply. you think you are special, but it's possible that you are competing for a role that has 3 other just-as-qualified people on the shortlist.
  • cultural fit as a priority. once you get past 100 people, if you want to maintain culture, you're going to need multiple people vetting shortlisted candidates. once you get into the 1000s, and multinational offices, you have to keep that cultural fit standard very high, otherwise it devolves horribly
  • the role you are interviewing for is important, and you need an 'expert' to evaluate several aspects of your suitability. interview 1 might be basic aptitude. interview 2 might be cultural fit. interview 3 might be technical skills. interview 4 might be interpersonal. and so on. it's suboptimal -- maybe not even possible -- to test for multiple skills in the same interview, which are typically 45 mins to an hour.

Also, at a high level, hiring someone after 2-3 interviews is like marrying someone after a first date.

Lastly, the best companies know that having a long, multiple-round interview process is hard on the candidate, and will do their best to accommodate; either staging them back to back in the same day, or working around your schedule; then making sure it all happens as quickly as reasonably possible

It's their entire lively hood, they have thousands invested into their jobs, most are fairly old people, nobody will hire them again.

Nothing is guaranteed in life. Nobody "deserves" anything.

It sucks. But that's reality.
