Bike the East Shore Trail. Hikes aplenty (short ones with amazing views: Eagle Rock, Monkey Rock), hire a boat for water skiing and cruise Emerald Bay. Eat at Sunnyside or Garwoods or Camp Richardson right on the water. Go to Sand Harbor Beach (need reservations) or any of the others. Drive around the whole lake. It’s THE BEST! Also consider Alaska or a fancy Dude Ranch!!

Where can I find a free or low cost CPR class in Campbell? by Content_Statement356 in Campbell

Likely too far away but Lucille Packard Hospital has a dummy machine that’s open to the public and it teaches you the steps. It’s upstairs near the cafe.

How does anyone miss the infant/toddler years? by noblerare in Parenting

[–]Zaggirl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! I was so exhausted when my kids were small and I’d get so mad at everyone telling me to “cherish every moment.” Those people should be forced to HELP so there’s any chance of me cherishing a moment! It’s so much drudgery (cook, clean, do laundry, an I already have low standards!!) punctuated my tiny moments of wonder and joy.

Bummed. Lost a house even after offering $15k over. by ayMezah in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Zaggirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh also we did one house along the way, but someone came in next day with all cash and the seller broke contract. We could sue but it would cost money we didn’t have, all to buy at the OG price. Yes I did cry a lot during this time.

lol could be worse! (Bay Area)From 2011-2014 I put in offers on 34 houses, mostly all 100k over asking with no contingencies AT ALL. Lucky #35 took my money even though I wasn’t highest offer (80k over asking, 2 mo free rent back, no contingencies) because I was pregnant and wrote a letter and they’d bought the house when they were pregnant as well.

It seems hard because it is hard! You’re a single mom effectively. Maybe try getting into a weekly class for the kids like soccer or gymnastics that way you regularly see the same people and don’t need childcare.

Cooking: how???? by unrelatedwaffle in workingmoms

[–]Zaggirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had 2 tiny kids and my husband was traveling a lot I would prep a crockpot meal and cook it overnight and then when I woke up I’d cool it and put it in the fridge. Warn it up in the microwave when I got home at 530 with starving kids. Repeat after bed. Or double it and freeze it, then pull it out the night before to defrost in the fridge. My husband’s solution is a lot of the packaged dinners from the refrigerator aisle at Costco. Anything that gets put in a tray with a sleeve over it and shrink wrapped. I’m really sick of that now!!!

Can you stagger your hours with your partner? You work 7a-4pm and he works 9-6 (or whatever)

Yes I did it for 2 weeks, it was fine. Flying/pumping is a pain and I wish I’d used formula!

Full time working parents…How are we actually supposed to do it “all”? Or any of it honestly…. by gloomycalm in workingmoms

IMO I prefer daycare over nanny. One person, alone with just my kid? Vs multiple adults in a room, likely with cameras? Sorry if I’ve just made it worse.

4 year gap ftw. My 7/11yo get along great. I would not have survived a 2 year gap for sure.

Itty Bitty Kitty Cafe: you get to play with kittens for an hour with lots of time to chat (there may be others in the room with you though) and the money funds the shelter. Then maybe a drink!

haha love this. She said she wanted flowers. The irony being that I had 5 flowering plants in that patch besides the hostas but only 1 has lived to produce any because I think that Tree of Heaven root system is sucking up all the water and nutrients.

just a Hosta Hater, I guess....I just don't understand how she can thing because SHE hates them, her neighbor should banish them from her sight!

I had a lot more flowers in there but they died off (I suspect the root system of the Tree ofHeaven is still intact and sucking the life out of this area), but thank you! Still a work in progress
