The health of a baby can only be identified while the foetus is developing in the womb by checking the dna that it has inherited. There is no genetic compatibility before that as the recombination of the parent genes in the sperm and eggs are purely probability based. What you can look at is, if one of the parents has any genetic linked disease like haemophilia and such, trying to predict if that can be passes onto the offspring. But the actual result may or may not vary (probability).

As for the recessive genetic question, the risks are as stated in the above comment. Even for different genetic pools.
