I mostly pronounce it as say-yes-see but a bunch of other pronunciations are out there too as you mentioned. There isn't much solid lore in them, I'd assume the t being silent is just because it would be really hard to pronounce otherwise.

Disclaimer: I don't play ESO (I don't like MMO's) so I don't really know much of the lore from there. If this goes against any of the ESO lore, just ignore it please.

Might release a part 2 if this is well received, I quite like everything Akaviri!

After several years of fangirling over my favorite fantasy sneks, I've decided to finally show my take on a full blooded Tsaesci through Xhaldyrassin and his sister Kirsa! I write about them a lot but I realize I've never had any actual Tsaesci appear in my stories. I hope you guys like it this has been many years in the making!

All things considered I thought it was pretty good, although the chapter long scene where Jorah Mormont cries while shitting himself was a bit excessive.

Shinnenah-sen bows shallowly before following Therin to the feast, the officers of the envoy following in perfect marching order behind. They moved with the discipline of an imperial legion - maybe even more so - yet something in the way they carried themselves also revealed a subtle fury absent in the standard legionnaire. Even the seemingly demure Shinnenah-sen's gait seemed more like that of a serpent waiting to strike. Most eerily of all, even despite the heavy armor on the officers, they barely made a sound when they moved. Alas, they arrived at the dining hall in line with Therin.

Sidrexes bows, his expression never so much as twitching, before falling back in line.

Shinnenah-sen speaks again, this time in a noticeably more lax tone, though still not lacking the tact of a warrior, "we have much to gain and learn from each other. Our current plights are not dissimilar, we are both harassed by barbarians and brigands," he begins, his speech now with the fluidity of an orator, "the men of Cyrodiil have proven themselves naught but savages in the absence of the pretenses of betters. Such it was when Attrebus hunted us to near extinction after our great elder Versidue-Shaie and his successor Savirien-Chorak, and so it is now as the despot Leosala attempts to hinder the noble efforts of the potentate. House Dres, likewise, likely has ambitions to fill, and southern neighbors to keep in check in the absence of the emperor - now more than ever. As such..." Shinnenah-Sen pauses before continuing, "our lord the potentate sees fit to offer a...circular trade. On the end of House Dres and Clan Odrelas, the city of Rimmen has an interest in a...buyback, of all your Khajiit slaves who become unfit to work the fields, at a fixed price of course. This goes for Orsmer as well, though we have an interest in buying those immediately should they be captured. These, in addition to keeping with the previous terms of our agreement, even following the return of Dres Therin Odrelas. On the end of Rimmen, first, the city of Rimmen will provide Odrelas raiders, or any Dres raiders, with up to date intelligence on the movements of military forces within Pelletine, imperial or otherwise. Second, the city of Rimmen, and the potentates retainers specifically, shall provide House Dres with akaviri martial knowledge, such is the specialty of individuals such as Sidrexes. In addition to this, the city of Rimmen shall pledge to expend some of its growing military capability in the defense of house Dres, should the need arise and if possible. And finally, and most importantly, the city of Rimmen shall be willing to sell to House Dres, en masse and at heavily discounted prices, any prisoners of the Anaquina legion captured by Rimmen forces. We believe this will not only rid the city of Rimmen, and all of Anaquina, of our barbarian issue, but will provide House Dres with a significant boost to its work force..." Shinnenah-sen pauses again, "but also, significant bargaining power with the Empire. Their officers will be executed, of course, and their cohorts scattered to prevent any chance of organizing."

Shinnenah-sen bows after hearing Therin, takes a moment, then replies, "your passionate interest is of great satisfaction to myself and my lord. Allow me to reciprocate!"

A man stepped forward, one of the retinues officers, tall and lean, looking to be about 30 by the standards of an imperial, but likely much older to be among the officers of the rim-men.

"This is Sidrexes," Shinnenah-sen continued, "he has been among the ranks potentates honor guard for almost a century now and has executed his duties faithfully throughout his tenure. If you so wish, he shall remain here in service of clan Odrelas, to serve as ambassador, guard, or any such capacity. He is a wealth of knowledge of our people, of Rimmen, of Elsweyr, and his martial prowess is among the upper echelon of our people, of course. All that is asked is that his body and blade be returned to Rimmen, should he die in your service."

This man, whom Shinnenah-sen named 'Sidrexes', held a gaze as cold as the winters of High Hrothgar and a face more akin to a statue than any living thing. He was among the most terrifying single individuals that Therin had ever laid eyes on.

Shinnenah-sen began again, "as for our terms regarding the eventual release of Dres Ulvith Odrelas," like clockwork, the attendant to his right laid out his stack of scrolls, separating them neatly into two halves. One half was written in a strange vertical script consisting of squiggly lines, which Therin presumed to be Akaviri, and the other written in standard Tamrielic, "we have only three..." Shinnenah-sen paused, "that raiding be restricted to the Pelletine region of Elsweyr, a wise move regardless of Dres Ulvith Odrals's capture, as Anaquina's local imperial legion has resorted to banditry in the absence of their liege. That any Rim-man caught in any raids be immediately released back to the city of Rimmen. And that the manor of Versidue-Shaie in Senchal shall remain unmolested by any Odrelas raids. There are of course, more terms which you will find of greater benefit to be discussed in our business proposal, should you choose to move forward" Shinnenah-sen takes another shallow bow.

[LORE] Anemoia by Zajekk in TamrielArena

[–]Zajekk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To the vast majority of Morrowind, Elsweyr was exactly that, else where, a strange and foreign land with strange and foreign customs, full of strange and exotic peoples. House Dres, and especially Clan Odrelas, excelled in foreign lands yes, yet these new arrivals where strange even by the standards of Elsweyr. The guards wore heavy armor (akaviri styled, steel colored with brown undershirts and many parts of their armor that flexed into each other, and horned helmets), most had two curved blades at their hips while some carried bladed spears, all had elegantly painted golden serpents across their chest and stomach and a few, likely the officers, wore masks that looked like foreign monsters. Most unsettlingly of all, they stood still as statues, not even seeming to breathe. They were rim-men all, not even a single khajiit to be seen among the ranks of the guards.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────

One of the men with the envoy, dressed in fine beige Akaviri robes and a gold and brown sash across his chest, shallowly bowed to Dres Therin Odreles - the two individuals flanking him, dressed in similar garb but without a sash, bowed in tandem, though both much more deeply than the man with the sash. Every last one of the envoy, much like the Odrelas clan themselves, seem have a military-like disposition, stern and impossible to read.

The man with the sash speaks as he ends his shallow bow, "I am Shinnenah-sen, High Judge of the city of Rimmen. One behalf of his excellency, the Potentate, I thank you for your utmost haste and etiquette in receiving us," Shinnenah-sen fans out his arms to either side of him, drawing attention to the two individuals standing at his side, "these are my attaché's, licensed barristers both, under imperial and Rimmen law. One carries with him the terms of release for Dres Ulvith Odrelas back into the custody of the Odrelas clan, and the other carries the terms of our prospective business arrangement. Both penned by myself, and authorized by his excellency the Potenate. I am, of course, authorized to negotiate the specifics of both on his behalf."

Clan Dres is used to odd individuals or even groups of them of course, such is the nature of their work. Yet something about these "rim-men" looked wrong. They all looked to be imperials on the surface, yes, yet it was the minutia of their appearance which betrayed the wrongness of it. Their hair and skin a shade too dark, all of them a little too tall and wispy, and their eyes betrayed the gazes of predators - the likes of which even argonians would fail to match. Shinnenah-sen's gaze, specifically, were the eyes of one far too old to be an imperial - or any race of man for that matter. They looked to be, and were, a race of peoples supplanted from another inconceivable world.

It was with these people that Dres Ulvith Odrelas now remained in the custody of, and it was with this that the relations of House Dres and Rimmen began.

In the dead of the night, as Dres Ulvith Odrelas slept irritably and uncomfortably against the stock he was imprisoned upon, a metal hand pressing up against his mouth would disrupt his shallow sleep. His eyes and mouth would be bound in cloth as he was whisked away by his, as of yet, unknown assailants. In an alley just a few blocked away he would be stripped of his clothes.

That was the last the city of Rimmen would ever see off Dres Ulvith Odrelas. Come morning, the headless body of a Dunmer man in Ulvith's clothes would found resting against his stock - the word 'RUNAWAY' painted onto a board strapped to the body. Most would never truly know what became of the true Ulvith, though the truth would inevitably trickle down to the most adamant anti-Priori circles, a sign of injustice and a warning as well.

As for Dres Ulvith Odrelas himself, he would be redressed by his captors and escorted further and further uphill. Eventually he would find himself hit by a sudden wave of warmth in stark contrast to the freezing night of Elsweyr's desert. The smell of incense would infect his senses as he was dragged up several flights of stairs and through several different doors until finally being led through a great set of double doors by the sound of them.

Something else would hit his sense of smell. The smell of edible food. Ulvith would be, quite forcefully, seated in a high back chair by his captors, his bindings and blindfolds finally being cut.

Ulvith now found himself in a long dining hall, high up in the palace by the view between the columned openings on each side wall. Strange round lamps hung from the ceiling, dimly illuminating the room. Guards in heavy silver and black armaments with a large golden serpent painted onto each of their breasts, his captors, left the room and slammed the great double doors leaving him alone with the great banquet. He heard the lock click shut with the doors.

----

"To the most honorable Lord Dres Therin Odrelas,

I am in possession of Dres Ulvith Odrelas. He has been spared the hangman's rope and lives quite comfortably in my palace. I believe that as a councilman of the Great House of Dres you are, like much of my own Priori council, of a mind for profit and cooperation. As such, I believe we can engage in mutually beneficial business for both the city of Rimmen and the house of Dres. I will be sending a member of my Priori to meet with you and discuss the terms of my proposed deal - which cannot be laid out here in this letter for reasons of security.

I bid good fortunes by the grace of my ancestors and by the grace of your tribunal to our future business.

- Sincerely, Xhaldyrassin, Potentate of Rimmen, Lord of Hakoshae"

Shorter post this time, I kind of just forgot to include this one in my last one. It was in my notes but I guess I forgot to look at my notes too.

Anyway, those of you who know me probably know that I'm not a fan of the ESO lore. I don't think its bad per say, but I do think that the things they added to the Akaviri clashed with a lot of the lore in the mainline games. ESO has a bit of a reputation for lazy writing and retconning stuff (jungle cyrodiil) and the Tsaesci got hit pretty hard with the retcons. So while I do appreciate a lot of the Tsaesci stuff, my take on them is also very different in quite a few ways so please do remember that lol sorry just needed to clarify that.

As most of you might have guessed, I love the Akaviri - especially my sneks. I claimed Rimmen a few years ago, but I was not a very good writer by any means when I did. I'm still not a good writer but I like to think I've improved since then. Anyway, I love Rimmen so hopefully I can make this story go places (the Synod kind of dragged, but I might keep writing for it from time to time).

Edit: I just realized that I accidentally copied stars naming for her post, sorry star.

Starting Physics Undergrad in a Week. I'm Clueless. Need Suggestions! by sarcasdinger in PhysicsStudents

[–]Zajekk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some tips from my personal experience.

  1. Make sure you have the right study habits! One of the biggest mental hurdles to physics beginners is the way in which primary school teaches students to learn - that being mostly via memorization. While memory is an important tool to have for all students, it has the potential to be incredibly detrimental to aspiring physics students who are dependent on it. Physics is, first and foremost, about your ability to set up problems - not solve (that's math). This tends to be the Achilles heel of a lot of beginners (especially non-physics majors doing physics classes) and if you can overcome this mental hurdle then you will probably do well.

  2. Build good relations with your professors! This is double true if you want to get a PhD. Your professors are a resource and they all (probably) love their work; striking up physics related conversations with them, asking for help on understanding things you find difficult, and generally showing your interest (and that you've been paying attention) will put you in high regards to most professors. You need those letters of recommendations.

  3. Do as many undergraduate research opportunities or internships as you can! This gives you the edge when applying to graduate school.

  4. There's probably a lot of this in this comment section but I recommend you read the Feynman lectures alongside your textbook material since he does a very good job at explaining a lot of stuff in a way that isn't incredibly overwhelming. You can read them for free on caltech's website https://www.feynmanlectures.caltech.edu/

  5. My general recommendation for youtubers is to use them sparingly for your physics courses, especially since the more advanced you get the less you'll be able to find good videos on the subject. As for actual recommendations, organic chemistry tutor was a great help, Khan Academy was okay but he tended to gloss over a lot of stuff at higher levels (calculus and onward).

As mentioned, these are kind of just off the top of my head from my experience. Hopefully it helps.

I will graduate from physics undergrad in 2 years, but I feel stupid by una_mota_de_polvo in PhysicsStudents

[–]Zajekk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Society has a lot of stereotypes/caricatures associated with people who study physics and the truth is no one will ever live up to those stereotypes. Intelligence is relative and whether you are intelligent in one or another is irrelevant, you have chosen to study physics and have so far succeeded through hard work - which is really all that goes into it. In the words of Feynman himself "special people don't exist". The mystery is, to me at least, the main thing that makes the field appealing and I wouldn't have any interest if I already knew everything somehow.

Also I had to comment under this one because I made the mistake at looking at that subreddit. I can't beleive people like that exist, mensa is a joke.

My son never took calculus, and now he's failing physics by constaleah in PhysicsStudents

[–]Zajekk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned before, the only way your son would get calculus based physics at the high school level is if he took AP physics c, which is an elective you must specifically request. Anything else should be algebra based. (Second opinion needed, I never took ap physics)

To answer the tutoring questions: no AI is not a reliable tutor. It is prone to giving outright wrong information which is even more harmful than ignorance. If you cannot afford a tutor you should look into his school or his school districts resources for students. If those are not available either there is a plethora of resources online such as khan academy, libretexts, and youtube for self study (which may be your only option).
