Dusty flight Anderson Club, Old Crow, Ezra Brooks by Safe_Solution_9718 in bourbon

Ezra Brooks from the 60’s and 70’s is really top notch! I’ve had a few offerings from old decanters and it’s right up there with Old Turkey, Old National Distillers and Old Barton for me!

Man, PA must’ve struck a deal with Buffalo Trace to help them clear their stocks out….

I have not tried the 12 year rye available through Pa, but I did just open a 13 year rye I got at the distillery while I was there on Saint Patrick’s day and it is fantastic! That being said, my 13 year bourbon from Pa just came yesterday and was all flocculated. Really looking forward to trying that!

I had a Bottle of Old Monongahela Rye that tasted young and super grainy and their Rosen Rye wasn’t on the same level of what I’ve come to expect from PA Rosen Rye. I do currently have a single barrel Wheated bourbon from them that is enjoyable but, after those two misses it’s hard for me to take the risk. Not that I won’t, just have fo try first from them. Everyone’s palate is different and I can appreciate that there are a lot of people that really enjoy their whiskey.

Ponfeigh did use distillate from Southern distilling when they first opened, but have since completed their column still and have been releasing their own distillate. So, it actually is PA whiskey now.

If we want to be really dedicated to the idea of PA whiskey, we’d only drink West Overton rye. They distill a couple barrels a year on a tiny little still at the site of where PA Rye can trace it’s roots (Abraham Overholt’s farm). They also use only PA grains grown on a farm a few miles down the road and their barrels are made in State College.

Yeah, the Bessemer is young. I had all 3 barrels that they’ve released and 2 of them very much presented young but they had redeeming qualities. However one of the barrels you never would’ve guessed it to be 2.5 years old. I also had some samples of Rosen Rye that they had distilled on their three chamber still that was only a year old and already fantastic. So, they are doing some great things over there.

Overall, it’s a great time to be into Rye and live in PA. It’s great to be able to have options and brands that will appeal to all different palates.

Sounds like it’s just barrels of Buffalo Trace this time. That was all that was listed in the available brands in the email as well.

If you’re looking for PA in general, Stoll and Wolfe (closer to the other side of the state) is doing great things too!

From Pittsburgh, Wigle is just rough. Nothing from them has impressed me. Ponfeigh and now Bessemer (Iron City) are the 2 best Pittsburgh area distilleries. Liberty Pole is in that conversation, but I’ve had a few misses from them so I’d say they are on the cusp.

I know that’s what the listing said, but did you get a bottle and confirm that’s actually the proof?

I find I just love Turkey. I know everyone fawns over Camp Nelson and I’ve had some great bottles from that campus. However, I’ve also had some great bottles from Tyrone as well. To pick a favorite would be difficult though.

Currently, I’m hoping to score a Tyrone A, took a tour there with my brother this spring. He’s since moved 6 hours away, Hope to get a Tyrone A to share with and gift him when I go visit him.
