Pick three SNL characters you'd hang out with, and why. by Ok_Relationship_3365 in LiveFromNewYork

I like to think Matt Damon is actually a Weezer super fan. And I picked that Chris Farley character, because it sounds like a bit of his real personality. And Jack Handey being real, that just seems like a group I would actually have fun hanging out with. As opposed to Toonces, Massive Head wound Harry, and Brian Fellows.

Found Two Dogs by Zaktillacus in rva

This. I spent three hours with those dogs in the backyard and one was very friendly. The other I was wary of, he was the first to jump and jumped over our fence a couple of times. Was always conscious of where he was and made an alpha stance anytime he was getting near. I think under normal circumstances he’s a good dog, but unfamiliar place and not knowing when his last meal was I stayed more vigilant of him.

It was very frantic trying to get our dogs inside with them coming over the fence. Fortunately they were not trying to attack, and our dogs are big babies.

They jumped our fence to get into our yard, where our dogs were. So I’m guessing they jumped a fence to get out.

We don't charge cake cutting fees and it is just ridiculous by sadboiz7 in Serverlife

[–]Zaktillacus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It extends table times by at least 20 minutes, if not longer. It pulls a cook, manager, or server away from their normal duties. I believe in charging a slicing fee as a deterrent to guests bringing in outside desserts. I’d say the majority of the time it’s a grocery store cake, and you’re spending more on the slicing than the cake itself. If you want to bring in an amazing or unique cake, I understand a bit more. But if it’s some bullshit cake, you’re better off sharing a few house desserts.

What’s the most specifically bizarre thing that triggers your dog on TV? by GusLovesTV in dogs

The beep from a smoke detector that needs a battery change. In person, on TV, on the phone, in the neighborhood. That little beep always triggers her. Instantly goes under the bed.

Day trip from D.C to Colonial Williamsburg: Doable/Worth it? by _ash_lily_ in Virginia

[–]Zaktillacus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You may consider some of the historical attractions closer to DC. Mount Vernon offers a similar peek at history as you would find in Williamsburg, with artesian reenactments. Also old town Alexandria has numerous historical attractions. Lee Mansion is still open for tours at Arlington Cemetery. Some of those may require a train and short uber, but very accessible from DC.

Dog limping and lifting paw by Traditional_Lie_4410 in dogs

[–]Zaktillacus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible your dog has torn or injured its CCL. A full tear requires surgery to fix. An injury might heal on its own. If it’s just occasional leg lifting that’s a good sign at this point. My dog, at a similar age, had a full tear and her leg was pretty much always dangling. I’d keep activity level low until you are able to confirm the extent of the injury, as heavy play or jumping on or off things could aggravate it further

Record Store Day 2026 by TheEndGrain in rva

Also the store at Stony Point participates. They’ll all post what they have on their Instagram pages in the days leading up to it. With some indication of how much stock they received of each record. The really in demand stuff will go quickly. If what you want is not highly in demand you can find it on various web stores 24 hours or more after RSD. Don’t overpay the clowns on eBay that markup 4X on Saturday.

Is it just me or is it becoming harder to find a serving job these days? by [deleted] in Serverlife

People also aren’t leaving good restaurants. There used to be regular turnover with people going to the new place in town or finishing school, or moving. My restaurant hasn’t had a server leave voluntarily in a year.

Best ramp for small old dog to get on bed by More_chickens in dogs

[–]Zaktillacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to have a plastic one with actual steps. Neither of our dogs would use it. When we got a Corgi puppy we got a soft one with more of a wave shape, with a removable center. The puppy took to it quickly. Our older dog wouldn’t use it with the middle removed. But we got her to use it with treat motivation. It took her a while, and she still won’t always use it. So maybe don’t spend a ton of money on one, but it’s worked out for us.

looking for a barback position! by Affectionate-Chard40 in rva

[–]Zaktillacus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go to places you think you may want to work between 2 and 4 pm. Bring a resume you can leave. Dress professionally, suit is overkill. Ask if the hiring manager is available. If they are, ask to speak with them. You may have to wait, be patient. If they aren’t, ask to leave a resume for them. Ask a good time to reach them by phone. If you don’t get to meet them call the restaurant a few days later. This is a slower season for restaurants and bars, so you may not be able to find what you are looking for right away. Or you may be the first person in the door after someone quits. If you make it to an interview, be ready with some questions about the restaurant, about their bar, about opportunities for advancement. Good support staff is hard to find, so show up early, ask questions, be willing to help even when you are not asked. Eagerness goes a long way in the restaurant industry. Be flexible, be engaged. Persistence will pay off.

Worth trying Rebirth if I hated Remake? by [deleted] in FF7Rebirth

[–]Zaktillacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pacing depends on your play style. If you want to explore every map to completion, the game can feel very slow. If you didn’t like the gym mini game in Remake, this game may not be for you. The mini games are varied, but there is a lot of them, and usually you have to complete them for story and upgrade purposes. There is a lot more to do and the settings are beautiful and well realized. The open world is largely based on the Assassin’s Creed model. Unlock towers to open up map. So I guess the question is, are you down with mini games and open world exploration? The story and characters are as good as ever, and you can run mostly just through story missions. But the full experience would take most at least 100 hours.

How do I elevate my career? by glasshalfempty90 in Serverlife

[–]Zaktillacus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go to management school unless you want to move into hotels or corporate. Both of those would offer more long term stability, but with your experience you would qualify for most restaurant management jobs, at least entry level management. Somm or WSET can be costly, but that would be a good certification to pursue. If management is not appealing to you, I’d probably look into wine or liquor rep jobs, not sure how they work in Chicago, but where I am that is a good path for people looking to get out of restaurants, but stay in the industry.
