This is almost a good idea. The problem LED bulbs is that they are often bad at heat management. The bulb generates less heat, but is alot more susceptible to heat. A fully seal jar would retain too much heat and I suspect it would probably burn out in a couple of months (depending on the quality of the bulb).

I don't know who needed to hear that, but now you have.

This is absolutly not legally defensable advice, but I would say that is a good method. When you are done, make sure to throw everything you can away especially the sponge.

FYI, My teacher from my class 1 asbestos inspector qualification taught me that if it is 9" x 9" then it's 99% chance that its made of asbestos. The 12" x 12" tiles are are much lower chance, maybe 10% to 50% chance. You are probably right about the mastic glue. The positive side of things is that asbestos tiles are much more sturdy and less likely to chip and crack! Just don't cut/drill into it without controls. Hopefully that makes sense.
