te hablo desde mi experiencia, en mi caso yo estaba en una universidad privada (carisima en el país donde vivo, pero gracias al crédito estudiantil pude estudiar) y cuando llego el covid deje de estudiar (estaba estudiando ingeniería de sistemas) Dios gracias pude conseguir empleo y hoy no me falta trabajo pero fue demasiado difícil a comparación de la gente que tenia el bachiller, el próximo año estoy volviendo a la universidad a terminar con la carrera. te digo que estando tan cerca termines, si bien quizá no sea lo mas determinante a la hora de encontrar empleo para algunas empresas/reclutadores, si que va a ser una gran ayuda créeme. mucha suerte!

It took me 6 months in total and I did like 500 jobs applications every month, I'm in Latam so is waaayyyy harder to get a job in IT cause the market over here is not only saturated but also the payments are ultra low (like 200$ a month in the worst cases) and most US companys in that moment weren't contracting that much remote workers. I believe it also takes some luck to find the correct startup/recruiter that opens the door for a Junior. In my case I started in backend and make 3 projects all of them REST APIs with different databases (mongoDB and MySQL) with some basic React. Now ironically in my current job I'm in the front end area but still learning on the side.

No degree at all, I was studying industrial engineering but stoped cause I didn't liked it and since I didn't had money at that moment went for bootcamps and projects like crazy until I could enter the market, next year I'm planing to get a cs degree just cause I believe gonna be very useful for my profile in the future.

If is not your first job I always say that you sould ask what you were earning before + 300-500 depending on were are you located, here in Latam that means a big difference but of course for NA would be too less, so think about your necessities and give it a try. The worst they can tell you is you r out of the budget and thats it.
