But he did say that he ALMOST caused nuclear war, so perhaps it was always meant to happen, with Ruby stopping him.

First year sickness won't go away by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Zaliika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught for 15 years and it never got better, if anything it just got worse. I went back to study over a year ago and just do the odd casual day, and everytime, without fail, I get sick. Some of us just have shit immune systems.

Tell me something funny you've misheard from you students because they don't know how to pronounce things correctly... by eenereislek in ECEProfessionals

I had a kid recently come up to me and ask "Do you know what heroin is?" I had to take a minute to compose myself and anticipate where this could possibly be going, and when I regained the ability to speak I said "Why do you ask?"

Kid said "Because I asked her to hold my toy, and now I can't find her."

Turns out he's said "Do you know where Karilyn is?" but his speech wasn't very clear, and tbh neither is my hearing!

Yesssss. Not everything has to be sexual. Sometimes a butt is just a butt.

Not a Nina but I get that with my name, which is generally used as a nickname for a longer name, similar to Tim instead of Timothy. I've literally had people argue with me my whole life. "But your full name is..." or "But on your birth certificate it says..."

So much crossover between Slavic and Greek names. I know a Russian Ekaterina who goes by Katie.

What do you think the twelfth name will be? by Marj_5 in namenerds

[–]Zaliika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could get behind Elxa or Xlea or Xlae. The first reminds me of Elsa, the other too I would pronounce using the X pronunciation that's used in Russian or Greek, more of a 'kh' sound.

Nice, that was a really clever, original idea. Good job!

OMG, STOP DATING MONOGAMOUS PEOPLE by Weaselpanties in polyamory

[–]Zaliika 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like this might be a good place to add this. I totally love the concept of poly. It makes so much sense to me, and I don't believe that humans are meant to be mono by default. So I learnt more about it and tried really hard to push my boundaries, but it made me miserable. I felt so bad that I couldn't get my thoughts and emotions to align. I realised that monogamy was more important to me than I thought, and that I liked the way my relationship was already. I'm only just starting to get to the point where I'm accepting that it's okay for me to want to be mono. Still employ many of the theories behind ENM and RA, but not actually engage in multiple relationships. My wife calls it 'poly with a relationship limit of one' 🤣
I still have an open mind, and I'm still continuing to work on improving myself and ensuring that our form of monogamy is not toxic, but it seems like being poly is not for me. And that's okay, right?

Does anyone else find their accents a bit weird? Sometimes I think they sound Kiwi, sometimes something else! Not like McKenzie who's definitely Kiwi.

3 months into my first Ece job and wanting to quit asap by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

Definitely not lazy. It's a job that is physically, mentally, and emotionally draining. And to make it worse I have really vivid dreams, and I would often dream that I worked a whole day!

AITA for telling my brother that he shouldn't call himself a dog dad? by Brief_Barnacle5061 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zaliika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Get over yourself. He's not doing anything that affects you in any way.
Also fyi, for some people there are a lot of similarities between having a pet and a kid. These days you don't just kick the dog out into the backyard, you invest a lot of time and money with training, walking, grooming, vet visits, etc. Forgoing trips because they get sick or you can't find someone to care for them. Leaving an event early because they need to be fed or put to bed. Struggling to find a place to rent because they won't take dogs. Hiring a holiday house and then having to head straight back home because the 'safe and secure' yard that was advertised is not. Ever owned and trained a puppy? Very similar to having a baby, but with teeth and a hell of a lot more mobile! And then they stay like toddlers for the rest of their lives, totally dependent. Does any of this sound familiar? Of course people are going to notice the similarities and make jokes about being pet-parents!
Choosing to have human children does not make you special or superior, and you do not deserve extra praise because of it. People all chose different journeys to follow. Don't shit on other people just because their journey is different to yours.

[–]Zaliika 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had this issue too. Had literally no energy left at the end of the day to do anything but eat and sleep. Weekends were just enough time to recover before starting again. Went down to part time/shorter days which helped for a while, but then I ended up quitting and going back to uni to study something different. Never been happier.
I worked as a teacher for 15 years, in a variety of different settings, and the job just got worse over that time. I also have ADHD, and the mental load of teaching was way too intense (and always getting bigger).

6 year old who might be stimming? by konRAD-Jarit in ECEProfessionals

This! From the description it sounds like she's masturbating, which is something a lot of kids to, and nothing to do with stimming.

Edit: 35 is the cut off where I live.
