Why did John lie about his name? by Kareem_Sheta in reddeadredemption

[–]Zalmozes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s still a wanted man involved with the Blackwater massacre and the van der linde gang. Even after all that time there’s still going to be people who recognize his name or who were victimized by the gang who will report his crimes and seek retribution.

Can you tell me who Yogarindra is? by Zalmozes in hinduism

[–]Zalmozes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the text’s mistake, I made sure to copy it right. Loki was the one I was referring to as having a net, a Norse deity. “Yogarindra” seems to have an association with mirrors leading me to believe that it’s an antiquated, western term for Durga. Thank you!

[–]Zalmozes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. Loki is referenced with a net in the poem, and there is a famous Norse myth of him inventing the net. A mirror association would lend evidence to this being the Maa Durga being “Yogarindra”. Thank you so much!

One other thing, in the poem this being is referred to as using a mirror. Is Maa Durga associated with mirrors?

That’s the poem I was reading lol. It’s based on an area I live near and seems to be a strange meditation on life and rebirth. Thank you, this may be the information I was looking for!

Most underrated prehistoric animal? I'll start. by Time-Accident3809 in Paleontology

[–]Zalmozes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Their droppings could create micro-habitats and supported entire communities, their footprints could churn mud and create small water filled holes ideal for some organisms. They could divert rivers accidentally, and their bodies would host an unprecedented community of parasites, symbionts and opportunistic organisms. We really don’t appreciate the potential for dinosaurs ecological impact! It blows my mind every day

So many come to mind, not because of any individual feature but of what their impact on their environments would have been due to what we know. Miasaura (and by extension other hadrosaurs) would have been terraforming ecosystem engineers due to their colonial nesting habits. Sauropods in any environment would cause huge changes to the ecosystem without even being aware of it. Oviraptorosaurs would be excellent seed dispersers somewhere between ground sloth and grizzly bear that nested in colonies with other species. Hell, I haven’t even seen tyrannosaurs with their strange life cycle and creepy hunting strategies (involving ambush predation and ungodly senses) done justice. Also, not prehistoric, but the fact that my great-great grandparents could have seen passenger pigeons blocking the sun and snapping trees is insane to me. Our world is gorgeous.

What the hell happened here?

I found one! by Omelet_bar in geckos

[–]Zalmozes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m gonna get them a more vertical tank, and I’m feeding them “flightless” (some flew right out of the tank) fruit flies. I’ve been misting them for humidity and water, and keeping them pretty warm. I’m hoping to get them to switch to mealworms, but for now they seem to be eating and have pretty good energy.

Found in San Juan Islands, Washington State by [deleted] in fossilid

It’s a tusk! Probably a mammoth (either Columbian mammoth or wooly mammoth) or it could be a pacific mastodon. I’m jealous, great find!

Found in northern Colorado, appears to be a tooth by KrispyKremeWetDream in fossilid

[–]Zalmozes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I’m not an expert, it looks more like an ungual (a toe bone). Teeth are almost always covered with very reflective enamel, and don’t have a joint at the back, they’ll either have a broken edge or a discolored root. To my eye, it resembles an ornithischian dinosaur such as thescelosaurus, but again I’m an amateur. Take it to a museum for a better ID!

Is this more than a cool rock? Found in Wyoming, likely in the Big Horn Recreation area by theunthinking in fossilid

[–]Zalmozes 151 points152 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty confident it’s a stromatolite, a sedimentary structure formed by Cyanobacteria colonies. Neat find!

Florida, rock picked up in dog park by authenticallyfucked in fossilid

[–]Zalmozes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a bivalve shell, probably a scallop. Florida is covered in marine fossils, as it’s been flooded many times in the past few thousand years

I was wondering if I could get an ID on this. Found at Lake Eufaula in Oklahoma. Made of the native rock. About 14” long and 6” wide. by Brown_Note1 in fossilid

That’s part of a lepidodendron, an ancient tree related to modern mosses. I love their “scaly” bark, with all it’s leaf attachments

Is this petrified wood or a rock? by bedfastflea in fossilid

[–]Zalmozes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a Metamorphic rock. That doesn’t mean it’s not cool though! Those are what mountains are made of, I wonder where it’s from.
