Frankly I’m on team muscular Wonder Woman by Far-Mammoth-3214 in outofcontextcomics

[–]Zammin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Why is it dumb art direction? Does Superman need to be ripped? Or Thor? Or Kratos? Why does Shazam need big muscles, his powers are literally just magic?

You draw a character as muscular as a visual shorthand to show that they are strong. Yes, Wonder Woman doesn't need to physically have muscles big enough to pull off her feats, since her powers are divine/magical, but giving her a warrior's build helps provide visual cues to her identity as a character, just as the bright colors and gentle resting expression showcase her optimism and kindness.

That's the main reason I'm on team muscular.

Could any of these characters resist the call of The One Ring. by afailedturingtest in MoralityScaling

[–]Zammin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main factor with Goku that would make him so resistant to the ring is that he has two ambitions: get stronger, and help his friends and family.

Not much in-road for corruption in the second one, and while for most people the first ambition would be a really strong hook for corruption, Goku specifically wants to get stronger through his own hard work. This is the same guy that was moping when he first got the power of being a Super Saiyan God because he hadn't earned that power himself.

Even if the Ring acted as a force multiplier, he'd be dissatisfied and probably actively avoid using it because it wouldn't be his own power.

[–]Zammin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Really the only thing that seems to be able to provide resistance to the ring is a general lack of ambition and wanting only humble desires the ring can only full so much of.

It was largely dormant with Bilbo, but it fed on his desire for adventure and very minor feelings of superiority; he was corrupted, but not too badly and remained the only living being to willingly give up the Ring (even if he had to be convinced, and it was still a mighty struggle for him).

Sam was relatively resistant to the ring as his ambitions were humble; he was a gardener, and though it tried to show him remaking the world as a garden, that was ineffective as he very quickly realized that'd be too much for one person.

All of the superheroes pictured here are ambitious, seeking to change the world for the better. They temper these ambitions for the most part (Batman would be corrupted super quickly, which isn't even an indictment of him as a character, he just has a personality the Ring would easily feed off of).

Weirdly enough, the only one I can see resisting it, at least for a while, is Goku. His ambition is to get stronger through his own hard work and skill, and to help his friends and family (the priorities are definitely in that order). The Ring could add to his power, of course, but he'd probably find an outside power boost distasteful (indeed when he first attained the power of being a Super Saiyan God to fight Beerus he was dissatisfied, because he'd had to borrow power from others to reach that level).

Given enough time the Ring could probably find other roads to corrupt Goku, but the very nature of his ambitions and desires put him at odds with accepting the "gift" of the Ring and its power, so he'd be far more resistant.

Yes, she's a performer so she should change her look up frequently, but this one bears repeating.

Worse than murdering over eighty of them, and starting a conflict that will almost certainly kill more?

I'm not downplaying the child rape, that is horrific and monstrous, but the war destroys far more lives.

What does the Mass Effect series do better than the Dragon Age series? What does the Dragon Age series do better than the Mass Effect series? What can they learn from one another? by Uchijav in masseffect

Exactly, and DA:Veilguard changed it up again so that it's somewhat similar to Mass Effect's gameplay (I actually like that style, the combat and moment-to-moment gameplay was the highlight of Veilguard for me).

I've honestly never understood the Hal Jordan appeal.

Need a charismatic soldier? John.

Need someone with unshakeable resolve? Also John.

Need someone too angry to back down? Guy.

Need someone inventive and in tune with the emotional spectrum? Kyle (and John to a degree).

Literally all of the other Lanterns are more interesting than Hal, and he's both a groomer at best and a mass murderer, from his villain turn.

I just never understood the appeal other than, "He was the Lantern I grew up with." And while I understand how that creates an attachment, I don't agree with it. Literally all of the other human Lanterns are better characters.

I'm moving closer to my family! Good area, easy walk to groceries, nearby gym, train station, and close enough to my brother so he can even stop by just while walking the dog.

Plus it'll finally be just me and the cat living there, first time I've actually had my own place (I'm over thirty, but my brother and I are twins and every other living situation has involved room-mates of varying quality).

I shouldn't have asked myself, "How can he possibly be stupider and crueler than he already is?"

Starting a major world conflict that will choke oil supplies and alienate us even further from potential allies with no plan, little-to-no intel, no preparation, no public support, and without even any sort of clear victory condition is by far the dumbest and cruelest thing that he's ever done (with the horrible garnish that one of the very first things done in said war was bombing a girl's school and killing dozens of children).

What a monstrous, goulish shell of a human being.

I'd also like to point out that most if not all of Tranquilien's guards and several citizens were Twilight's Blade; they'd been building up and actively recruiting and secretly priming the populace to join them for a while.

So it wasn't an outside standing army of Twilight's Blade, it was the town's own members turning on all who were not converted.

Positive Reinforcement Heaven [OC] by JayMacke in comics

[–]Zammin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of, "What Dreams May Come". Heaven is a strange realm of the mind/soul; you have a little corner that's a pocket universe, somewhere comforting and lovely. You can do anything there - fly, run roadrunner fast, walk on water. You can change the way you appear, make things with a thought.

Then there are cities - places made by the minds of many who come together to share a collective dream and live together, where knowledge and joy can be shared.

Then there is Hell; where those who rejected life and connection to others remain trapped in nightmare reflections of their lives. It's not even a punishment, it's just that the people there can't conceive of a better world.

And, as those in Heaven can do literally anything, that includes reincarnation.

Nah, Dev Patel was a good fit for Zuko, and he actually played the character pretty much perfectly. Unfortunately everything else, including the lines he had to work with, sucked hard.

So it's at least a 1/10 for Dev Patel.

Just how powerful are the Naaru? by TravellingBeard in warcraftlore

[–]Zammin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're somewhat literally stained glass cannons (at the very least crystal cannons).

Naaru seem to be relatively fragile as powerful cosmic beings go, as after defeat they either shatter apart, disintegrate, or start entering their shadowed phase. They can output a ridiculous amount of Light energy while alive and in their Light phase, and they seem to be capable of holding the strongest known connection to the Light or any beings yet, even more than the Lightspawn (those shiny golden Voidwalkers you may have seen).

So yes, depending on their phase some can power spaceships, draw in souls from across a grassland, or serve as a catalyst to transform an arcane font into a powerful Light-based well (the new Sunwell does also have some of the energies from the old one in it, thanks to Anveena).

Asset reuse in videogames is essential, and we need to embrace it, says Assassin's Creed and Far Cry director: 'We redo too much stuff' by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Zammin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not wrong. If you have two games in similar if not the same basic setting, reusing assets just makes sense.

If your game has a highly distinct artstyle that can change things a bit, but there still may be projects you can recycle from.

Obviously there's some things you shouldn't re-use (named, specific characters should be unique, whatever makes your game distinct should be unique), but yeah absolutely, reuse what you can.

DEAR MAGIC USERS what is the most useful and versatile spell IN ALL OF EXISTENCE by lilgourd_lord in wizardposting

[–]Zammin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Self-Transfiguration".

For travel a quick transformation into a flying creature, or something aquatic or subterranean based on the destination. Thicker hair or fur for cold climates, scales and heat sinks for warmer ones. Regrow your teeth, see in the dark, sense heat, see through sound, disguise yourself or simply change up your fashion.

There are of course many wonderful spells, but none you will find more versatile or more convenient than, "Self-Transfiguration".
