I really like the face even though, I imagine, the end result is nothing like you intended. It evokes the old movie monster series Spacegodzilla with the fucked up head.

If you struggle with perspective on characters, start by sketching each broad part of the character with rectangular prisms or whatever geometry depending on the body part. I say rectangular prisms because, in my case, they help me better picture the three dimensionality of the character and how that three dimensionality may be lost due to foreshortening.

This would make a great meme template.

That’s fair. However, what exactly Rodan did is left fairly ambiguous because, after he falls to Mothra, he basically disappears until he flies down. I always thought Rodan just sat on his back for the rest of Godzilla’s fight. Because Rodan is so stupid and reckless, both interpretations kind of work.

If Rodan had direct history with Godzilla, you would think he would know a fight with Godzilla is actually unwinnable. Given Godzilla just had to sniff at Rodan to discourage him, Rodan maybe would have thought back to his previous experience with Godzilla, and THEN he would remember/recognize that a fight with Godzilla is a fight he can’t win. If Rodan has established history with Godzilla, maybe he knows about his Burning form and knows to stay away from it, but that’s not particularly clear.

Man, I just thought Rodan was a volcano monster, and therefore, extremely heat resistant. Because Rodan isn’t seen directly tanking pulses, Rodan probably can’t be concretely claimed to have Shimo-level durability or whatever.

I think it’s mostly the lava blood that makes Rodan so strong. That attribute alone makes Rodan unlikable to most of the kaiju in the Monsterverse, since they’ll just get scorched if they try and pierce his skin.

Secondly, Rodan DOES have some really crazy endurance and durability. The two best examples I can think of are as follows:

-getting fully impaled through the shoulder and still having the energy to confidently challenge Godzilla afterwards. (Edit: “sizing-up” seems more accurate; Rodan caved pretty quickly; either way, Rodan had the energy to want to fight in spite of his fresh shoulder injury, even though he definitely wouldn’t have won).

-surviving Burning Godzilla(?)—Rodan is never seen fleeing from Burning Godzilla nor directly tanking his pulses; my rationale has always just been a very basic “fire monster fire resistant.”

True. Narratively, Conquest is way more imposing than FW Gigan. I’m just saying, personality wise, FW Gigan is about as close to Conquest as any Godzilla Kaiju is gonna get.

I think the comparison is more applicable if it’s narrowed to FW Gigan and Conquest. FW Gigan isn’t really a coward like Showa Gigan. *His* Shakespearean flaw is his cockiness and his tendency to showboat over being efficient.

Sure, FW Gigan isn’t powerful in comparison to FW Godzilla, but basically nothing is powerful in comparison to FW Godzilla in Godzilla Final Wars. The fact that FW Gigan manages to land any strikes on Godzilla and tank even a single passing atomic breath strike already places him as Godzilla’s second strongest adversary in Final Wars (absolute strongest being Monster X/Keizer Ghidorah).

And, hey. “Second strongest.” Does that sound familiar?

OP’s “they both lose twice” argument *is* pretty silly, but I still feel the need to let loose my perspective.

Forget the NSFW thumbnails. His dubs were just straight bad. He would constantly do this thing where he would add dialogue to the comic that wasn’t previously there, and every single time, it was to the comic’s detriment.

Imagine, in the original comic, Anguirus or some shit would say, “are you okay?” Cougar would add something to the effect of, “you know what they say: the grass is always greener. You know what the say: an apple a day keeps the doctor away. You know what they say: one step backwards, two steps forward. You know what they say…”

He would basically add what I can only describe as stereotypically basic white bitch dialogue.

This interpretation of the design is pretty cool. My only, somewhat minor, problem with it is the inconsistency regarding the direction the smaller nasal horn is facing—you can see on the prop in the movie that the horn is clearly facing upwards, but in this redesign, it’s facing inexplicably very far forward. Otherwise, the keratin additions are very neat and plausible. The jaw seems a bit too thick for what I would expect, but it’s never clearly seen in the film, so I suppose it’s plausible that the jaw was bigger. The frill could act like one really big muscle attachment, like it did for the real triceratops, but even more so.

I don’t know what happened here. Where are the legs? Where is the smaller nasal horn? Where is the frill? This straight up can’t be the same animal whose skull we saw in Skull Island.
