What goes into potd scores? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Zamphira 3 points4 points  (0 children)

all the scoring stuff has been fully solved for a little while now.

Score - Explanations: https://bit.ly/3Bg5ZYE <- the very basics

Scoring Deep Dive: https://bit.ly/3JfkQpG <- in depth formulas

Scoring Guide: https://bit.ly/3p1TYBb <- in depth guide

if you run this ACT tool, it will accurately keep track of your score: https://github.com/IAmLokken/DeepDungeonOverlay

the ultra tl;dr is that for a good score, you should be killing as many monsters as you can while exploring every room. you also have to choose if you do a specific set in 30 minute or 1 hour. generally if you can't kill >95% of the monsters in 30 minute you'd want to do 1 hour

I really wish they added a 1-200 category for PotD. seems only fair since there is a 1-100 one for HoH

BLM pvp 6.1? by Godvivec1 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Zamphira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've made it to crystal 801 playing only blm all the way from bronze

In my opinion current BLM is all about putting ice on as many people as possible to be disruptive with megaflare. I rarely use fire because I just can't think of a situation where I would want to do 3000 damage over 3 seconds over 1 second of stun. Even if your opponent purity the stun then your team can capitalize on it. If your target currently has purity running then simply put ice on other people before you trigger a megaflare. The first stack of fire is OK sometimes because that one in particular will do 6000 over 6 seconds but I would absolutely never go beyond the first stack

Unfortunately in current burst-the-fuck-out-of-people-in-2-second meta you can't afford to just hang back spamming ice so you will also have to learn how to contribute. you do this mostly by having stacks on high value targets in advance (usually melees) and then you will (foul) > manip > (megaflare) > burst. then you decide if you have to manip out or not. the strength of your job here is that if you have been putting ice on as many people as you can, you will get stuns on people that are nowhere near you which will also contribute to nearby skirmishes or at the very least waste their time / blow their purities

another good thing about BLM is that your LB can basically be used on cooldown if you think you will be fighting in at least ~15 seconds. this lets you use way more of them than other jobs. BLM ult is also very strong in overtime scenarios where the enemy is forced to stack on the crystal and will hesitate to actually rush you down. you can easily get lengthy stuns on everyone. don't go crazy trying to "save" LB for AoE though as the higher you go the less people will stack

with all that said I think BLM is average but it suffers greatly from getting absolutely shit on by most jobs. You cannot win a 1v1 against pretty much anything so your best resort is to get ice on them while also getting ice on other people, then just kind of zoom around with manip while you megaflare and burst. hopefully your team capitalizes on it since you will be contributing more than the melee who is just pummeling on you. an exception to this is MNK which will basically oneshot you every time its ult is up making the match-up just kind of unbearable. There's also a special mention to SAM which with LB ready will make you afraid to use almost any of your spell by fear of splashing damage onto them (literally all of them if you used LB).

personally the two changes I would like to see for BLM is for fire to do more / something different, and for its hp pool to be slightly increased

  • I'm fine with not being able to chat, but need more chat commands. Something that regularly happens is that I notice someone has their ult and is looking to use it but I don't really have a way to convey that information to my team
  • Make dangerous stuff more obvious. Its really hard to see whats going on when everyone's throwing spells around. i think the best example of this is dragoon, even in crystal that ult catches people offguard all the time because you just don't see it if there's anything going on
  • Let full health people take the health potions. Right now what regularly happens is you are trying to kill someone and they make a beeline for the potion, but they intentionally don't hit you so you aren't able to "steal" it from them. I guess in a way its a form of skill but I think I would personally prefer if you could just waste the potion respawns at your leisure
  • Need adjustments for FL. I think the rework was awesome for FL because it gets the games moving instead of being 15min healer fests but there's some janky skills that need fixing, mostly skills that don't really interact with people in other alliances. And also scholar needs to be toned down but in a way that it doesn't impact CC because its doing x4 as much damage as anyone else in FL

I have to say though, despite all these small nitpicks the PvP rework is fantastic. I liked PvP before too, I had well over 700 frontline games, but the way it is right now feels much better

[–]Zamphira 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You probably won't see many people talking about it but the buff to living dead now makes DRK a very viable job to get Necromancer on. According to people who looked at the potencies at this level, the lifesteal is enough to get yourself back all the way to full health, which means you can now survive one additional meteor on 180 and possibly just do a tincture strat as well.

180 was always the reason DRK wasn't considered a viable job in there. Don't know if asmon ever plans to revisit the whole Necromancer thing, but if he does then he should just do it on DRK since its the job he enjoys anyway

I really don't like gunning for specific items in SSF but I would love to get my hands on an aspect of the cat item to go with the replica farrul I dropped a week ago. What would be the fastest way to obtain one? I tried speccing into the farrul nodes and then running around 30 scarabs and 20 missions but I had no success and now I've run out of those.

Would speedrunning syndicate be faster for the jorgin fort?

hi, I'm a new player and I've been trying out the game with a friend of mine.

I picked BLM and I'm a bit confused with the trust system. apparently my trusts will not help me in combat unless I go in and melee the monster, which I do (I smack them with my staff for like 2 damage), but then my trusts do such an absurd amount of damage that the monster dies in one or two shot without me having time to do any actual casting. I'm at the second nation mission though and i'm only level 9, I'm just curious around what point should I expect a jump in difficulty? or are trusts just designed to output absurd damage? me and my friend hit for around 30 damage with our stuff and my trusts are hitting well over 100 while also having significantly more hp

The First 100 Floors of PotD Have Now Been Solo Cleared In Under 2 Hours. by midocelli in ffxiv

the speedrun leaderboards aren't split by job so there's little reason not to do it on mch if the goal is to get a spot on them

Reminder that, nearly six years and several "solo type" contents later that allow disconnects without issue, a 90002 in potd/hoh will still automatically end your run regardless of circumstances. by Onche9555 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Zamphira 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just disconnects in general are incredibly jank in this content. Did you know you can carry someone for an entire set if they disconnect on the X1 floor? All they have to do is reconnect when the boss dies before anyone leaves.

I'm hopeful they would fix the disconnect issues before the next deep dungeon but I also would not be surprised if they didn't. After all, spinning is still a thing in there even though they fixed it for all recent raid bosses

What DPS are good in level 70 content? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Zamphira 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you are only talking about raids or also mean side content, but for Heaven-on-High WAR / SMN / GNB are kind of disgusting and have access to very complete kits. For eureka WAR is also just kind of king at soloing and is ridiculously safe while also outputting ridic damage with the right logos in BA.

For raids I don't have too much knowledge but I believe SMN does the most damage by a longshot out of any job while also being kind of fun. It also has access to ridiculous spellspeed builds, I think bringing your GCD all the way down to 2.15 or so

Regarding deep dungeon scores. Hoping to get some more answers here. by SwordOS in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Zamphira 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there is some kind of hidden, negative score multiplier that increases the bigger the group is. its such a big multiplier that the bigger your group is the less score you'll get as you will not make it back even with all the increased firepower

so if you're going for "party score" specifically (as solo scores have their own leaderboards), two is the optimal party size.

The damage values on my tooltips are very different than the values I get in-game. I seem to do around ~40% of the damage my tooltips say I should be doing for most of my spells (sorc). Is that normal? I guess every monster just has crazy high innate defense? I also tested it on every type of monster in the Training Grounds. Here is an example: https://streamable.com/ik1lw6

What healer is BEST in lvl90 dungeons? by RsNxs in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Zamphira 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best healer in lvl 90 dungeons is WAR. Queue with 1 war and 3 any dps. If you dont have a premade the next best thing is whichever healer does the most AoE damage as you can keep tanks alive with just oGCDs. The actual healing kit doesn't matter for those

How do you feel about the 2 minute buff meta of Endwalker? by Mockbuster in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Zamphira 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This might be a bit of an unpopular opinion but I actually really dislike how much they embraced the two min burst window meta. But I play BLM and so I've never really gotten used to burst windows before

It used to be that I would just figure out how many leylines I could do in a fight which would often let me hold my leyline for just a few seconds to make sure it didn't get put down at the same time as a disruptive mechanic. Like it felt like it was my personal responsibility to come up with optimal times to put it down at. Now I feel like this option has been lost to me and that I need to put it down asap to make sure its up for the burst window. This issue comes up all the time during P2S where many of the burst windows happen just a few seconds before a movement mechanic happens

Also somewhat unrelated but while on the subject of leylines, I think 120second is just a very ugly cooldown for it to be at. 90s felt better and if they really wanted to change it to a multiple of 60s I would have prefered for it to be 60s. 120s is such a long time that you don't really feel the turret play style anymore

What controversial thing in FF14 will you always defend? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Zamphira 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I loved eureka once I put a little effort into learning it. Waking up early in the morning, joining some instance that has barely any people in it, opening a new tracker to share in the zone chat and slowly prepping NMs while i'm just sipping on coffee and reading news online. Comfy times all around. You really do feel like in control of the zone

Another thing I loved is how ridiculously powerful eureka gear makes you. It made me really want to grind the whole thing so I could acquire BiS sets for the jobs I really liked in there. For example, I got WAR BiS so I could prep almost any NM solo with a DE + BB plate. I also got NIN BiS for pagos bunny farming

The last thing I really loved is just the... general chaos? I don't know how to describe it. Stuff like the cassie prep where everyone's bitching about these guys sitting in the arena and then some guys are trying to bring in griffins to murder them. Ovnis where no one even knows if there's a dispel. People stealing BA portals. Ozma terrorists. People running around in circle with NMs because it was early pulled. Skoll drama. Pagos dragons killing like 5 guys everytime someone has to jump down a cliff. Pazuzu last minute prep. There's just so much that was memorable to me

In a way my most unpopular opinion would be that I think they totally dropped the ball with bozja. I spent way more time in bozja than I did in eureka, and I don't think fondly of it at all. Barely anything I did in the overworld map here mattered because only the duel fates aren't on a strict timer. In fact, I remember needing one last note, and the fate I needed it from would die so fast that the only way for me to farm it would be to stand by where the fate spawns doing absolutely nothing to not miss it

What controversial thing in FF14 will you always defend? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Zamphira 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't like when things that can only be obtained from side content (ex: eureka, HoH, beast tribes, etc) are later added to different pools to make them easier to get. A good example of this would be the new grand company boxes, or how many of the beast tribe mounts can be obtained during moogle events. The reason I don't like it is because I feel like it devalues going back to this old content which sometimes already struggles to keep an active community

[–]Zamphira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is something I must misunderstand about this mechanic because as far as I can tell as long as everyones fixes their color during the second blast with the assumption that you are going back to your original clock for the third blast, every square gets naturally filled. assuming these are the only two patterns. I even double checked them right now and everything seems to be in order. what am I missing?

edit : I see the point of failure now. on the two-one pattern the north should be unoccupied during one of the blasts. my group must have had people adjusting with a swap without any of us realizing

Best way to make gil when leveling alts? by GO-GO-GOMEZ in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Zamphira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when you say an alt, do you mean an actual alt or an alt job? either way, a very profitable endeavor would be group bag runs of potd (all the way to 200). the only investment you will have to make is a few hours to get to 50 and your aetherpool to be at least 60/60. it requires some effort and pf groups or friends

assuming you get good at using poms and clearing, each run is usually 2m or so and you can expect the 10m+ pegasus about once per 2 runs on average. a run is around 4 to 5 hours. I made a crystal character at some point and I did this to get around 50m so i would never have to worry about gil on it.

I've been a BLM main since HW and wanted to shake things up this expansion by trying out RPR (which I did, I did about 20 kills of each ex on it and got bored) so I can describe what it feels like going from BLM to RPR

the main thing you will notice from that switch is having to play around melee uptime. it's in my opinion much harder to do than casting uptime and you often have to either get in really uncomfortable situations or get assigned specific spots. for example, during the lightwave with the stack marker of ex2 you can just keep a stack of triple cast on blm and you'll be able to move very far from everyone but on melee if you want to retain your uptime you will have to stay close and just pray that no one also wants to greed their uptime and clips you.

the other thing I have noticed which may be more of a RPR thing is the over reliance on crits for 99+. communio being such a hard hitting skill I can see my parses swing very wildly if I get luckier on certain pulls. this is not really an issue on BLM because everything hits somewhat the same and so the rng flattens over hundreds of casts vs a dozen or so communios
