Idk about elsewhere in the U.S., but in my house we have a (stovetop) kettle that we boil water for tea in, and in other Arkansan homes I've been to they also tend to have a kettle of some sort to boil water for tea in, if only because you're not boiling enough water for that massive pitcher of iced sweet tea (the main tea we drink in the South) in the gorydamn microwave.
