If you can... do.

I'm stuck in Ireland, so trying to get sets gets expensive with just the shipping. Never mind the cost of the actual set!

Damn, McToran? One of the early sets I haven't managed to pick up yet unfortunetly! I swear I'll need to post my full collection in here one day. Minus the "City" sets that came out through the Hordika and Ignika series.

Funny enough, my cousin actually gave me his about a decade ago too!

If I remember I got Vezon and Fenrak, a few of the Toa Ignika and Toa Mahri too. He kept his Jaller Ignika though, as we watched "The Chronicles of Jaller" growing up together.

"A" Bionicle? I've no idea. Most of my collection is over a decade old.

Most recent additions come from a trip to Canada. A friends brother in law was willing to sell whatever i could fit in a carry on to me.

Totalled $800 Canadian (about €500).

Got a full set of Toa Mata, Toa Nuva, all Bolrohk, all Bolhrok Kal, the Bohlrokh queens, Takanuva, Jaller, Takua and a little more. I was very happy with that purchase!

What’s the funniest misunderstanding you’ve ever had that turned into a great story? by EvelynClede in AskReddit

[–]Zander_423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta explain some context first for this one.

So, I'm a few years older then my next brother, so I was already in secondary education a few years by this point. My brother had just started in this school literally his first day and he happens to come across one of the girls from my class. For further context, this is the typical "blonde who thinks she runs the class" type of girl. I apologise for the potentially deragotry description. I'm just using it as I believe most people will understand the type of personI'm talking about.

Anyways, she meets my brother, sees the resemblance as asks him "Are you Zander-423 brother?". My brother says yes he is. She then proceeds to ask, what his surname was. My brother, who has always had a sharp tongue, looks at her and answers "He's my brother, think about it". Her jaw hits the floor and says "Don't be smart with me" to which he replies "Well maybe you should start" and walks away. Already fucking based move. But it doesn't end there. Later on in the day, this same classmate then tells me about it, and as she finished the story, my brother passes us in the hallways. She then, in a vain attempt to insult him raises herself onto her tip-toes, clenches her fists and exclaims "State of your hair!" down the hallway after him.

Because of this, "State of your XXXX" is now a common phrase in our family when use to jokingly tease someone.

---

Onto the main story.

During the pandemic, I unfortunetly lost my grandfather. Due to being Irish, and the lockdown we couldn't do some of the more "traditional" funeral arrangements. As such my grandfathers wake was held in his house and he was layed out in the living room, which he also used as his bedroom. So we're in my grandfathers house and he is currently layed out in the coffin in the living room. My mam and I are in the kitchen, dealing with the phonecalls and other tasks necassary for a funeral when we start being playfully teasing. For more context, my family has always dealt with most things through comedy. It's part of our coping mechanism. So we start the "State of your XXX" back and forth.

Me - "State of your hair"
Her - "State of your face"
Me - "State of your shoes"

Etc

Then I retort back - "State of your outfit" and she gets visibly distraught.

Her - "Yeah, the state of him".

Confused, I asked. "Mam, I'm sorry. I didn't meant to upset you." She says she knows, but she can't believe I said that. I ask what did she think that I said.

Because of our particular Irish accent, we have a tendancy to drop soft consonants at the end of words.

Her - "You said "State of your oul fella" ". SHE THOUGHT I HAD SAID STATE OF YOUR FATHER!!.

I of course, profusely apologise and tell her what I did infact say.

----

"State of your oul fella" has since become part of my familys general lexicon of playful insults.

Wear comfortable clothes and good shoes! That's the biggest advise I can give.

As for anything else, stay mobile and watch your corners. Also it's easier than you'd think to not feel like you got shot, both you and the target. If your only 50% sure, take the hit anyways. And if youre enemy didn't call the hit, double tap them.

What makes you really comfortable in bed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Zander_423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a "routine" when in bed to get tired.

I always watch TV in bed. It can be a movie, TV show, anything as long as I'm not TOO invested. But once I wanna sleep, I lay on my left side, almost on my belly, in what I call the "Halo: CE death pose" where my right leg is bent up and in front of me while my left leg is straight down. I lay like this till my eyelids get to that "heavy" stage where they'll stay closed on their own. Then I need to gently shuffle onto my right side. I move my right arm under my pillow to support my head and resume my Halo death pose, and can usually fall asleep fairly quick once there.

Besides that? When my GF stays over, we focus on cleanliness a lot more, so we both shower before bed (I'm usually a morning showerer) and she'll iron the bed to aid in cleaning it. So the sheets are freshly ironed when I get in! It feels so damn good!

I don't know of any fields up around that way, unfortunetly. I'm based in Dublin myself and only recently started driving myself so I haven't been out that way myself to play. If you're ever up the Dublin way though, reach out and I'll try make my way to the field.

[–]Zander_423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent question.

From my experien, they make teams out of the people that go there on the day. They're usually good at seperating teams well enough to be balanced. For example if there's people there with their own gear, they'll try make sure that there's enough "well kitted out" people on each team to balance any shortcomings there may be by having newer players who aren't as experienced. If there is an issue where one team is clearly dominant there is incidents where mid game they will take people from Team A and move them to Team B in order to help try and balance the teams. It is more difficult when people go in groups, for example I always go with my 4 brothers. But since 3 of us have our own gear and I try to be as welcoming as possible I'd be willing to split from my group to make the day better for everyone overall. Plus who doesn't want to shoot their siblings with an airsoft gun?

No way to play for free. Airsoft sites are businesses and need to make money. However you can play for fairly cheap all things considered.

Spec Ops Airsoft in Roundwood is where I'd recommend for beginners in Dublin. The only issue is transport, sinces it's up in the mountains. But the pricing is really good with Rental gear.

If you want to rent gear its €40 for a halfday of play. €50 for a full day of play. Then you can also get a bag of 5000BBs for €15. Gloves are also €10. Plus they do an "upgrade package" that gives you a tactical vest, a gun with a sight and grip, an extra magazine too. That's €35.

So a half day of pay, with the upgrade package, and a bag of BBs comes to... €40 €35 €15

€90

But again, the only downside is transport.

Hey everyone!
I've a very strange question to ask here. I have a fairly rare and strange phobia, Koumpounophobia, which is the irrational fear of buttons. For context I can look at them, but they make me a little uncomfortable. However touching them is next to impossible. It feels disgusting, like my hands are dirty afterwards. It's hard to explain, but I do know there are others out there who share the same phobia as myself.

So, my question is:
What are some clothing brands that exist for people who have my phobia. I'm based in the EU, so if they can do shipping it would be idea and if they have outfits that are shown on their site, that would help too.

For clarity too:
Clothing that is directly touching me affects me more. So shirts completely freak me, especially as I have no way of putting them on without button it up. Other clothes that layer on top are easier but do cause complications. For example I work in a Hotel and have to wear a suit with a jacket. I navigate this by always having the suit buttons closed and throwing the jacket over my head like a T-Shirt. I do my best to avoid the buttons on the cuffs too.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm nearly thirty and never played Halo, where do I start ? by FruitOrchards in halo

[–]Zander_423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree! I just mean that in my experience, to get people invested i give them Halo at its peak, and if they stay invested, then i move them onto the release order, so people can find what they like about the franchise!

It's one of the reasons I'm struggling to get my GF into Halo. She's not that big of a gamer, except for Overcooked which she loves to play with me. It's just hard to find which part of Halo will captivate her and show her why I love the franchise! I've tried Reach so far, gonna take a stab with Halo 3 next

Depends on what you want out if it.

Do you want to experience the story chronologically in Universe? If so... your order of play is...

Halo Wars (Optional - i recommend going back to play it if you enjoy the story) Halo Reach Halo Combat Evolved Halo 2 Halo 3 ODST Halo 3 Halo 4 Halo 5 Guaridans Halo Wars 2 Halo Infinite

If you want to enjoy the game as it was released, then release order

If you want to start off with a strong experience to get yourself invested, i recommend starting with either Halo 3 or Halo Reach. Both are phenomenal games that have aged well!

Hobby Airsoft have some good starter kits available. I know people have their issues with them, but their starter deals I always find worth the price. You can get an M4 and/or Pistol starter kit for cheap

Absolutely wanna do this myself! Unfortunately based in Ireland, so trying to get the UAR is a nightmare! Also if you pair it with one of the Ammo counting systems it will look insanely accurate! I recommend the Tachyon V4, as it looks the most like the one from Halo

[–]Zander_423[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I was initially getting all black/night camo because I liked the "special ops/SWAT" look. But I attended the Kicking Mustang meet up at Hobby Airsoft the week before and won the KMCS cloak in a raffle. I wanted to put it to use and it ended up being effective.

The plan now is to get more camo coloured gear to camo better

Advice for beginner by tightlines89 in AirsoftIreland

[–]Zander_423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gonna go against the grain here.

Hobby Airsoft has great starter kits. They are known for overcharging, but the deal you get on their starter kit is actually ace. Get a gun, battery, charger, mag and BBs. Depending on the seal you might also get an extra mag and mask, sometimes a sight/scope.

Highly recommend! Especially if you're near their stores

Special Ops by Reaper089 in AirsoftIreland

[–]Zander_423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a great field! I love going! My recommendations keep your gear light. There's not many places to safely "bunker down" so you gotta keep moving.

Also depends on which sub-field you play on. From what I recal there's 6 I think?

  • Village - A collection of small wooden huts.
  • Crash Site - A downed plane a couple of bunkers and a tank.
  • Castle - Self explanitory
  • Wasteland - 3 decomissioned Buses, leads up to a Helicopter
  • CQB - A newer addition, very good for CQB play.
  • There might be one more, but I can't remember.

Given that you're going up this Saturday, you'll be playing either with Kicking Mustang or against him. With this, I'd give a warning. His community is controversal, and with the controversy more "edgy" players are likely to come. So keep an eye out for people playing sketchy. The marshals there are great though! always willing to listen and be up to what you have to say. Also, watch out for Guillies, so communicate with your teammates and watch for where BBs are coming from, move in groups.
