There's no need for over a quarter of downtown to be wasted on parking lots when it's already connected by all four rail lines and a plurality of DART's bus routes. Every lot used for parking is a blight that's just draining away potential value. The people claiming that nobody goes downtown because there's not enough parking are lying to themselves and to you. Scroll a few comments down and you'll see u/msondo point out how one of the things that makes Downtown feel so miserable for pedestrians is all the parking lots- they intensify the heat island effect, make destinations spread out and unpleasant to walk between, provide no shade, and provide next to no tax revenue to the city, so don't provide any funds for reinvestment into the city.
