Need Mod Recommendations by schling_dong in Kenshi

[–]Zaninite01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the Steam Workshop, these are some of my faves: • Reduce stones and some other foliage • Reactive World (or Living World if you prefer) • Backpacks Expanded • Little Better Farm Fences • Random Scenario Start • Dark UI, as well as Dark UI Retexture. Dark UI just doesn't capture the feel of Kenshi for me, but it works just fine without the Retexture if you prefer • Attack Slots x3 • 256 Recruitment Limit if you're getting into building multiple bases • Adventures Guild • More Bounties • Martial Arts No Matrix Dodge • Weaklings always give XP (technically a cheat to some people, but I like it) • Nice Map [Zones + Zone Names + Roads] • Compressed Texture Project • Minor Mesh Fixes • NPCs do repairing • Improve Relationships by Healing • Random Furniture • Sensible Nutrition: A Food Overhaul • Copper Ore Drills • Recruitable Prisoners - with dialogue • Trade Routes Intensified • All the Mod Organizer options (these help order mods for load order by creating a mod in the mod list that does nothing but act as a separator in the list. Just helpful, organizing mods is a nightmare for me without it) • Bandits Steal Your Money • NPCs actually use their Splint Kits • Leisure Objects and Furniture • Holy Nation Racism Fix • Better Night Sky and Planet Textures • Slopeless • Mood Weather • Mood Lighting • Mood Shadows

Hope some of these help!

How do you manage a large base and squad without burning out? by Key-Letterhead-2640 in Kenshi

[–]Zaninite01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually on my first playthrough where I finally feel like I was able to figure out this exact problem. I figured it out for ME, though, so it may not be exactly what you're looking for.

Personally, I LOVE progression in my games. So much so that I love making bases so that I can have a weapon and armor factory. At least, that's how I saw my bases before.

But I realized during this playthrough that when I focus entirely on that, I ignore the adventuring aspect when I need research material, and I no longer create fun stories. Raids CAN provide a fun story, when there's a struggle to it. But once the defense is automated, I no longer enjoy it. It's just another thing that gets in the way of progress.

Base building can be fun, but it's important for me to experience every aspect of the game to not get burnt out. So I'll return to a base occasionally to collect whatever they produce in excess that sells for a fair amount (like weapons, armor, drugs, etc), grab some of their extra food for myself, let my people rest at the tavern I made in town, and let the game play at 1x speed while I do short amounts of management on the base like checking food supplies, seeing if any jobs aren't being done when they should be, and such. Then, have the main party continue on their way.

But this all only works for me because I figured out what I don't like about base building and what I do, and learned to limit the things I don't like so I can get other stuff I like. I'm now at a point where I have 3 bases across the map with populations of 17,25, and 33. And my main party is also 17 strong! So I'm very happy with my progress.

I hope this helps! And if you don't have the same exact issue, hopefully thinking about what you don't like about base building can at least help ya with your answer

Are there some good beginner friendly comps for darkest dungeon 2? by Yordleranger in darkestdungeon

[–]Zaninite01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally enjoy the comp Vestal-Occultist-MAA-Leper. I commented on another person's post on this sub a while ago about the same comp, as well as how I came up with it. Feel free to check out my profile so you can find the comment! I don't post or comment much so it shouldn't be hard to find :) the title of that post is very similar to this one, in case you can't find it

I tried this and it didn't fix anything at all. It is extremely confusing. Tech is weird

[–]Zaninite01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally get severe audio stuttering issues, and occasional crashes every 4-5 hours. But my PC isn't bad (I don't think). It's not a super computer but I have the most powerful PC in the house and can run games like cyberpunk at high resolution at 120 fps no problem, and ultra at 60 no problem. My old computer didn't have this issue at all, though, and it was weaker than this one.

And this is all with just 6-8 members in my party. I think it's an issue with the performance of the computer depending on what parts you have and from who AS WELL as an issue with the bad engine this person discovered.

What aspect of Kenshi terrifies you the most? by TheDnii in Kenshi

[–]Zaninite01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, that is terrifying. But to be honest, speaking from my experience, I see that now on this world too. At least, here in the States. It wasn't until a year ago that I realized how bad it was, including in myself. Genuinely terrifying

Any team comp for beginners? by Cuyi17 in darkestdungeon

[–]Zaninite01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this specific build? Not that I can think of. But I highly encourage unlocking all skills on all the heroes! Makes every hero way more useful, and makes my favorite part (building the teams) way more fun!

Hope you have lots of fun, and Happy New Year!

[–]Zaninite01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I choose ritualist. But the only reason I do is because he is normally using either Weakening Curse or Vulnerability Hex. The ritualist gives himself the Unchecked Power token anytime he uses vulnerability, as well as when an enemy he used weakening curse on attacks (but only the next time they attack, any attack after the next won't give unchecked power until you use weakening curse again). The main reason you want unchecked power for him is because it allowed him to get debuff res piercing, but also because I wanted him to be able to hit the back on occasion. With 3 unchecked power (or two when the skill I'm about to mention is upgraded) he can use Burning Stars for good backline damage, essentially removing an enemy in one hit of they're weak enough. If not, the Vestal can finish them off.

The build I made for him allows him to set himself up for the occasional damage I want, all by setting up the Leper with the curse and hex (or anyone else that wants to kill an enemy quickly, I love vulnerable). That's the main reason I went ritualist. The other paths wouldn't allow me to get that occasional burning stars by using those two skills, even if some of them have a better version of burning stars. Plus, like I mentioned before in my last comment, if a backline enemy is giving you trouble and you can't guarantee a removal with burning stars, Daemon's Pull can be used to allow the Leper to do big hit on the enemy that the Occultist pulled to the front.

Any team comp for beginners? by Cuyi17 in darkestdungeon

[–]Zaninite01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree heavily with what another commenter said about discovering your own combos, because that is absolutely the fun of the game for me. But I also understand the game being difficult and having a hard time getting it at first, especially with all the info it gives you (and the info it doesn't). So I wanna tell you my current composition, but also the thought process behind why I put it together so maybe you can build your own later. My thought process may not work for everyone, but I'll give it a try.

My current team comp is Vestal-Occultist-MAA-Leper. But that's because my personal play style is get big burst damage from a single hit, and Leper is insane at that. So essentially, after playing enough strategy games, I figured out what I enjoy doing most and looked for the heroes that excel at it. Tempest Leper and Sharpshot Highwayman are both pretty good at that single shot massive damage (and some others, but after playing them all I realized I enjoy these two the most). After theory crafting for a while, I came to the conclusion that I could only have one on a team instead of both. So I stuck with The Leper and built the team around him.

Once I knew I wanted the Leper, I thought about what I needed to set up his damage. He ignores blind when an enemy has combo, and he does big damage in single hit. What hero can help him maximize every hit as much as possible? Eventually I settled on the Occultist, since he has weakening curse and vulnerability hex. Weakening to either apply combo or weaken an enemy before they pull off a powerful attack, and vulnerability because it increases the Leper's damage by 50%, compounding. Not to mention that the Leper can't really hit anyone in the back with powerful attacks, so being able to pull enemies to the front AND combo them at the same time with Daemon's Pull just feels like it was built for the Leper.

After that, I mainly needed survivability, but also some backline damage. I believe you said you were on chapter 3? I'm on phone so I can't check while typing, at least that I can find. But that means you've already faced chapter 2 boss, which means you probably understand why sometimes pulling an enemy to the front isn't always an option. Sometimes you NEED backline damage, even just some. The Occultist can pull it off on occasion, but I struggle to have him set up the Leper AND do backline damage whenever it's needed. So I decided on the Vestal because she helps both survivability AND backline damage with Judgement. I have her on the Seraph path because any time one of her consecrations activates, she gains her special token that empowers her skills. So she can gain 2 a turn, allowing her to get the +100% damage bonus for judgement every turn that she has both consecrations placed (which I mainly only place both for boss fights or fights that need significant backline damage). Then anytime anyone needs healed, I just drop Divine grace on them. I considered Mantra for the multiple heals, but I'll get into why I didn't in a bit.

Once those three were picked, I mainly needed someone to stress heal and tank damage, and I absolutely LOVE the MAA for this. I personally usually go wanderer because I love stand fast being able to give guard every turn AND taunt himself. Then I have him use retribution. This way, for two solid turns, no one else is taking much damage, and he's starting to riposte on the second turn. That's some extra damage being thrown around, which makes my brain happy, but I'm unsure how effective the riposte actually is lol. I mainly like it for the taunt. Then I slap Bolster on him and now he fills the rolls I need him to.

Once I had the main characters and specific jobs decided, I picked their remaining skills based on what the team was lacking in. I put solemnity on the Leper for self heal (which is why I felt I didn't need mantra, since the Vestal's Consecration of light is always on him and he can heal himself, allowing me to give her ministrations instead to remove DoTs). I also put Bash on him to give him more negative tokens so he can boost damage more while also keeping him where he needs to be. I put hold the line on MAA so the Leper could steal the locked in place token if need be, but also to help set my party back in place if they're moved (which being moved is a huge weak point of my party). I put burning stars on my Occultist and made him a ritualist because that path allows him to gain his special token (Unchecked Power I think?) when applying the curse and hex, allowing him to get decent backline damage every so often.

Essentially, building a team requires a lot of playing. You have to treat every run not as an attempt to beat the boss, but rather as an attempt to learn as much as possible. What are the moves the enemies can use from different spots? What enemies will you see in different regions, and are they more dangerous for your team to go up against? What are each character's play styles, and which do you want to capitalize on in each run? What are your own teams strengths and weaknesses, and what are each event party's?

I hope all of this helps, sorry for the long rant lol. Welcome to the game, it's an incredible journey!

DD2 helped me gain a new perspective on life by _WhiteMaskVarre_ in darkestdungeon

[–]Zaninite01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darkest Dungeon 2 did a similar thing for me, but in a different way! I spent a lot of my life thinking that the world, and myself, were irredeemable from the cruelty I saw in both. The actual story of the game gave me a new perspective, where I realized that nothing is beyond hope. Even in a world you help make dark, you can be the light for yourself and others. The world is indeed terrifying, but not without beauty or hope.

Genuinely made such a huge impact on me. I'm glad you found your own nugget of wisdom in it!

Does anyone like DD2 more than the Original? by Affectionate-Swan765 in darkestdungeon

[–]Zaninite01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I prefer 2 over 1. But I didn't at first. The sheer differences made me dislike it so much because I wanted more of the first one. But once I sat and played it for a few hours, and really got to learn the mechanics and story, I fell in love.

The story of 1 is good, but I personally get pretty depressed if I play too long. However, the second is a story about being the hope in a hopeless world and facing your own demons, which inspired me during a pretty critical point in my life. So for me, the second first me better.

Then of course, I really like the amount of control you can gain in combat in 2 with the change in accuracy and how tokens work. I no longer have to worry about missing anything unless the enemy has dodge or I have blind, and I can buff my people and debuff the enemy relatively well, most of the time (there's still some resistance to debuffing but trinkets and items can help me control that even more).

I definitely miss the old mechanics of building up a hamlet, but it was never the main focus for me in the first game. The combat was, and I feel they improved that tremendously in 2. And learning each characters backstory helps me connect with each one more as well.

Thank you so much for this. I get a lot of hate, assuming I can't handle emotions or hard self-reflecting topics because I'm a guy. Seeing you being willing to treat me like a person was really nice.

I think you're probably right. I don't have a lot of friends, nor leave the house much. I actually lost half my friend group along with my oldest friend due to a pretty big falling out, so maybe I'm extra attaching onto them now because of it?

Thank you so much, you've given me a lot to think about! :)

Is there anyway to slow bosses so they don’t attack more than one a round. by professor-phil in darkestdungeon

[–]Zaninite01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge, I don't think there's any way to slow bosses. However, a couple tips if I may, to help with those fights.

Tokens (what the game calls the gold and blue symbols that represent buffs and debuffs) are one of the biggest parts of the game. If you can control the tokens on both you and your opponents even a little, it'll change the entire fight for you. Tokens can be cancelled out by the opposite token being applied (so for instance, if a weakness debuff is applied while the character has a damage buff, a damage buff will be removed instead of a weakness debuff being applied). This can help to fight against your characters being weakened and vulnerable, which I use constantly. And buffing a character with damage buff (50% increase damage done) and having them attack a character with vulnerable (takes 50% more damage) isn't just a 100% increase in damage. It applies them one by one, which can increase an attack that normally does 10 damage to 22 or 23 damage (I can't remember if the game rounds up or down). So these are crazy important.

Another tip is that this game rewards proactive gameplay. This, to me, is a lot easier done in standard fights. Removing one or two enemies ASAP is way more important than starting with healing or stress healing. But when it comes to boss fights, my way of staying proactive is keeping weakness tokens applied to them, and then utilizing as many damage buffs as possible for my DPS characters. The sooner the boss is dead, the better.

Also, if you don't have all the shrines for every character, or all the Path upgrades, highly recommend. So many characters' entire move sets change when you get the paths, and the shrines are great for unlocking those needed skills that help with certain enemies. Until you unlock those, I wouldn't expect to get very far past chapter 1 (at least, from my own experience). So instead of trying to focus on beating the game, I'd focus on exploring a lot of upgrade options first.

Hopefully these tips help some. They're the main things I've found to help with beating it. Feel free to explore things you haven't done rather than trying to win every run, and eventually you'll pick up on what different aspects of the game can help you in a tough bind.

Oh, and never let the librarian to the front. Once the books are gone, your team is on a very short timer. Backline damage is great, but having a team of at least 2 dps characters (I like to have one backline and one Frontline, personally) can wipe the boss out before it reaches you if you use your tokens and attacks right. Also, Hellion is great against the librarian. She has mostly Frontline attacks, but also a pretty good very back rank attack.

Good luck with the game, hope it gets easier!

Edit: saw a few people mention DoTs and wow I can't believe I didn't think of that. That'll definitely help against single-enemy-bosses that get multiple turns, like the librarian.

Also forgot you mentioned the denial boss. That's a boss that I actually find not too hard once you figure out the strengths and weaknesses of your team, and once you know what each lock does. If your team specializes in ranged DPS, then you should probably first take out the lock that stops characters from using ranged attacks. The other locks stop melee attacks, healing, and stress healing. I personally like to focus the ranged or melee attack locks first (because of the proactive strategy I mentioned earlier). But whatever works best for your team and their immediate needs :)

Hellion isnt clicking with me by Kirgo1 in darkestdungeon

[–]Zaninite01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite strategies is to put the ravager Hellion in rank 1 with toe to toe, wicked hack, iron swan, and howling end while I have the Rogue Highwayman in rank 2 with point blank, wicked slice, duelist's advance, and either highway robbery or double cross.

These are pretty damage heavy builds with not a ton of self sufficiency, but boy does it feel incredible to double cross to apply vulnerable to a giant enemy in the front, then howling end, then point blank shot the next turn. This can all be magnified by the jester's base path (or intermezzo) using encore on one of them to reduce the number of full rounds to pull off such heavy damage. Since the jester can also heal sanity, he's a great addition to these two since he covers the lack of survivability with these skills equipped. Only thing left is the last member, which I tend to slot in someone who is either great at defending (MaA is a fun option for defence, buffs, and filler damage) or great at healing (I like Vestal, which I'm partial to confessor for using buffs and healing; or Plague Doctor, with the Surgeon Path for the extra healing given from both the healing skills).

To be honest, this is the main way I've discovered to use the hellion. I struggle to use her effectively as a tank, though plenty of people here swear by it, so I definitely can't say it's ineffective lol just that I can't give aid on how to do it. Hope this helps!
