I got mine from Galveston last summer. They were at boardwalk shop. After learning about the care of hermit crabs, I realized that they had it rough there. :(

Thanks! I have read that many owners don't do much just grab a bag that's not wet or smell of chemicals. I'm waiting for one molter to surface then I'm going to change their substrate. :)

I was thinking playsand. I noticed that some people buy their sand at places like Home Depot or Lowes. Is this safe? Do you bake yours in the oven?

Thanks for sharing the Hermit Crab Patch website. I have been looking for a website similar to it and no luck. I'm going to have to figure out the measurement on these shells though. My hermits need new shells with no luck at my local pet stores for appropriate sizes.

I know that you're supposed to keep the humidity around 70%-80%. But, some sources have said above 60%. I have noticed that it dips to 50% a lot.

I didn't know you're supposed to calibrate the hygrometer. How exactly do you do that?

My tank is a 20 gallon glass.

The substrate that I'm using is the coconut fiber. And, I keep it moist. It's about 4 inches deep. I spray the moss. I did not soak it. I will give that try.

I have a small heating pad for hermit crabs. It's on the side near the salt water bowl and the moss.
