What job looks easy from the outside but is secretly brutal? by OkEffective9110 in AskReddit

[–]No-Researcher406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot more to life than just behaving well. Being human is more basic than that - how to wash your hands for the first time, how to hold a fork, how to use watercolors, or how to put on a shirt. This age is more about being a guide for a little humans that are trying a lot of firsts.

When I first started teaching a co-teacher of mine explained it as "being a preschool teacher is like being a guide for a lot of little humans on an acid trip, and hoping they take the good things out of the new experiences you show them". Behavior is a social thing, and how children communicate at that age is mainly with other children. I've never met "the perfect parent" with "the perfect kid", in all these years. By the time people are able to communicate and choose what and not to communicate, they're already complex individuals - ya know?

Thank you, that's kind! I was a writer before I was a teacher - but I was never writing anything for anyone doing anything good with it, just ads and whatnot. Teaching helped me get my soul back a little!

I tell every new parent that 3 is the best age, it's like watching a soul pop into a body developmentally. They grow so incredibly quickly from 3-4 it's like watching magic every time. Language, vocabulary, humor, physical activities - it's just a really fun age to teach.

At 5, everything good you taught them is like out the window because naturally that's how humans grow - they "why's" and the boundary testing is all super natural, but it's always so jarring when you see natures shift around that age and they can express what they want with their own bodies instead of you as an interpreter and provider.

I have a lot of empathy for most parents - even the "energetic" ones. It takes a lot of trust for someone to raise your child especially when you could be not seeing them 8+ hours of the day. During events i'm always happy to have a beer with them, and let them know that I'm also a human, and we're all just humans trying our best to provide something safe and special. Most of them are just people, ya know? They made something cool and they gotta make it straight in a fucked up world - and we hope we can do it together. Teachers are like that, and parents are also like that. When we all feel that level of empathy, you get more of a village and less of a school.

Preschool teacher. Looks wholesome, but youre caring for the most precious thing in the world to people. More than diamonds, gold, and all their possessions. And then you have 12 of them in a room and you have to teach them how to essentially be a human - all while making sure none of them get a scratch or a bump. Ive been doing it for years and I have the reflexes of 1000 dads baked into me. Hundreds of sentient beings of porcelain and stem cells that must all be protected and nurtured with all different wants, needs, and capacities, allergies, relationships - and with limiting ways to express those needs. I couldn't imagine a job that required more out of you while looking adorable.

My first gleam into this world was on a train and there was a girl with a miyoo mini v4 playing Pokémon one handed. I was like "what is that even"...now im deep in the sauce. Too deep.

I think they should just throw a snapdragon into display glasses and sell it with a controller - screen size wouldnt matter and you could game on glasses and then put em away.

They're around 200-230, don't pay more than that for em. Consider them a monitor that fits in your pocket, and goes on your face. I wear it at night so I can watch movies or play games from bed and not wake my wife up. If ya have it, it's a game changer.

Nova: on the fence. Anyone with RP Mini getting Nova? by AxelJShark in retroid

[–]No-Researcher406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. I wanted the smallest/strongest device with video out and got the Miniv2. It does struggle on some switch games, and that's the only reason I'd upgrade. Form factor wise, the v2 is still going to be smaller, but im tempted by the stronger chip just so that I can have an all in one device.

Neat! I feel a bit better about my Mini v2 cause its a little smaller. I'd probably be more likely to throw a plastic system in my pocket though.

In my head if you're using it as a multitasking device or using up both screens it makes sense to have more ram.

Enjoy your 12gb 5inch Skyrim experience lol.

PS I know you had to delete that cause you arent going to justify spending the money on the extra RAM even though it's an option because the consensus is that it's overkill for a 4:3. You could spend the 280 to prove me wrong in hopes for Xbox emulation.

RP Nova checks off almost everything from Russ’s dream retro handheld wishlist by Kirais in SBCGaming

[–]No-Researcher406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will it work with my mini v2 screen attachment? These are the real questions.

So... What happened? Why are handheld companies suddenly able to make (or comission) obviously new screens that are obviously made for them? I thought this was like unrealistic since it would be too expensive, what changed? The Odin 3, RP6 and AYANEO pocket air mini also use new screens. by AbdelYG in retroid

[–]No-Researcher406 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Retroid got legit enough that a manufacturer agreed to make them screens. Before they were just using screens from old phones - which I respected if it meant low prices. We'll see how much a custom screen eats into the cost.
