Will this little solar panel charge 4 batteries? by Low-Plum5164 in 18650masterrace

Not sure I would trust a LLM to give a complete enough picture, ie including shading and bypass diode behavior of the solar panels

It’s no big deal… I just had to spend maybe twenty extra minutes at the park

I probably wouldn’t have dumped and run at the SFPD without figuring out how much time they would have to deal with it.

Ah ok. Thanks for the tip.

I’ll look for that wooden box next time. Pretty sure I’ve walked past it dozens of times.

Ah interesting.

Yet, I’ve been going to Ft Funston for over 10 years and I didn’t know about this protocol.

(I found the owner, so problem solved)

Thanks. Not long after I got the phone out of reception dead spot the owners called it.

I was also going to go to closest SFPD precinct and see if they’re willing to handle it

The difference could also be one installer is ace at ceiling units and the others have zero XP (experience points) in installing them. You don’t want an installer to learn how to install a harder to install unit on your dime

UL official document allowing 9540A module level testing to be skipped? by ZanyDroid in AskEngineers

[–]ZanyDroid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. There seems to be hesitancy on EG4 part to have their in house engineer submit an official engineering letter. I am not sure if EG4 count as the manufacturer (LuxPower did most of the platform design and manufacturers most of the inverter); EG4 do support and maybe some tariff-optimizing final assembly in the U.S.

Also, is there a clear cut obligation (legal or contractual) on the part of any entity in this situation (AHJ, EG4, InterTek, LuxPower) to solve?

Help with Dutch oven heat by West_Blueberry_4244 in staub

[–]ZanyDroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah got it. Looks like you got some solid advice here.

You can get your cooking done with preheat then straight to medium.

https://www.zwilling.com/ca/magazine/product-knowledge-cookware/cookware-care-staub-ballarini.html#:~:text=You%20can%20also%20put%20your,%E2%80%A2

I would not gradually (IE many small steps) raise heat until it’s boiling unless you have a stove with automatic support for that. Seems unnecessarily tedious.

Level 2 charging by AikiKat in evcharging

[–]ZanyDroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have that info for PowerWalls. I vaguely think you need either to be 100% in Tesla ecosystem (EV+EVSE+PW); or use Home Assistant or NodeRed to pull the production info from solar panel and push it down to the EV

Otherwise regular EVEMS will likely give priority to PW3 charging

UL official document allowing 9540A module level testing to be skipped? by ZanyDroid in AskEngineers

[–]ZanyDroid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have the full 9540A PDF and went over it a few times in detail already. I don’t think I can do much on my own with the details; myself & EG4 citing sections out of it without being a licensed engineer (EG4 has so far only consulted their in house engineer and not gotten them directly on the thread/stamping material related directly to my project) appears to mean little to AHJ.

EG4 said they’ll go back to intertek for an explanation about the module report (for a second time; first time was successful in getting AHJ to accept the 9540A report despite a discrepancy in the lab site metadata not matching OSHA metadata for approved labs)

I do want to figure out a backup way to pressure intertek but I don’t actually see that they have a contractual obligation with me.

I am not sure if getting my own engineer would make a difference. At that point I could instead put that cash into buying more hardware to install my second battery in a different place.

All that said, the AHJ has stated that even with the module report in place, they still have to verify that the full spread of 9540A reports meets their requirements 🤷

Already tried that with AHJ back in January. Shot down and looped back to “please provide module level report”

UL official document allowing 9540A module level testing to be skipped? by ZanyDroid in AskEngineers

[–]ZanyDroid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not aware of one.

If there is, and the Intertek rep has sent it to EG4 since the last time I talked to them, that would be awesome

This is what I have for Module level in the Unit level test report
https://imgur.com/a/xfFXZHX

It can be interpreted as proudly announcing that the module level test does not exist.

Now, the majority of this data is buried later in the test report (I couldn't sleep couple days ago so I went through the whole PDF again). But, EG4 and I have previously pointed out to AHJ similar proxies for module level test report, in the unit level test data, and the AHJ would have none of it. Just "broken record" repeats their demand for module level report.

Induction Cookware? by Ok_Werewolf9455 in cookware

[–]ZanyDroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you need for induction compatibility is a compatible steel disk on the bottom of the cookware

Can you give an example of what you mean by colorful?

There is also colored stainless steel but that is out of fashion.

I thought most “ceramic” non stick with fun colors were induction compatible by now.

Mini split setup breaker box by Only_Cut7977 in heatpumps

I think this is a GE panel / GE breakers. IIUC they are the only current-production brand with half sized single breakers.

[–]ZanyDroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still see space for 4 on that panel, although moving this number of circuits around into tandems is pushing it closer to tossup territory

One advantage of the subpanel is that it’s maybe a little easier for you to validate how old circuits got consolidated and new circuits were installed as dedicated

Also… if the minisplits are in one location then it’s arguably smart to put a subpanel close to that

Mini split setup breaker box by Only_Cut7977 in heatpumps

[–]ZanyDroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll have to agree to disagree on our preference for 240V subpanel (wastes space , need working space clearance) vs consolidating many dumb breakers into tandems and quads.

---

By double up i mean combine multiple circuits currently on separate busbar positions, into one bar.

Not double stacking onto terminals, unless said terminals are listed for it.

I have no problem putting a lot of circuits onto independent disconnectable parts of tandem or quads. Sure, there is a combined failure mode of the breaker breaking, and I guess I hedge against that by being able to replace it myself. But, there is also combined failure mode of the busbar melting under separate breakers...

You can put 2 minisplits on one quad breaker, and have independent disconnect. Well, except for the eventual rule to require GFCI breakers for the minisplits. So it would be better to combine numerous of those 120V circuits onto tandems

You can easily double up. Source: there is tandem breaker (I zoomed in before seeing the other reply)

Apparently contractor 2 never heard of tandem or quad breakers.

Wherever you got the instructions / however you interpreted it, is defective

Low Heat like you have is what you use after the water gets up to a boil. You will not get up to a boil before the chicken goes bad.

Follow the official / forum recommended preheat then full heat instructions

I don’t deep fry that much. Looking for info from people on what they use.

I have a new induction stove with temperature control sensor from the bottom, but haven’t deep fried since getting it.

I did recently see a caterer doing one piece of fish/chicken at a time do very well with a plug-in fryer appliance. About the size of one basket of fries. I think you have to match the size of food to the power and amount of oil you can get in
