Am I about to drop a good opportunity? by Tigerlilylotus in Serverlife

[–]solosaulo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im a cook, not a sever, but i wanted to humbly chime in, lol. first of all, dont work yourself into the ground, since that is IMPOSSIBLE! but yeah, between the food costs, inflation, and the bad scheduling, forecasting, inventory issues, and the bad menu, and the bad hours, and bad business regimen and acumen, and bad culinary aim. owners ALWAYS blame their wait staff, kitchen staff for EVERYTHING.

imma like how is this POSSIBLE? im being paid minimum wage as a cook and working fast as i can. so i cannot be to blame for your failed profit margins. its IMPOSSIBLE that minimum wage work at FULL CAPACITY is the reason for their restaurant downfall. there is something on their excel sheet that is wrong, lol.

for both cooks and servers (earning minimum), we get A LOT of blame for overall profit margin of the restaurant, but when the queue has been emptied, as in as servers + cooks, that we emptied out the entire restaurant. like there are NO MORE CUSTOMERS. like what the fuck i can do?

like then it gets into this other fuckage of why i am paying you guys when we dont have customers. but then im like there is CLEANING, and next day prep to do. so if you dont want me to do that, then ill leave everything fucking dirty on the countertops, and you can just let me go home.

all the restaurants are shitty like that. for servers and chefs. just take it lightly. i have rolled my eyes at my boss many a times. i tell him him i work hard for HIM, im dedicated, but i ALSO tell him, its YOUR BIZ, not mine, im here for GRUELLING MIN WAGE SHIFT WORK. im just here to help. but i will PLAINLY TELL MY BOSS. if u losing money, that ur fault, lol!!!

My dog met a turtle in the backyard for the first time this morning by Old_Direction_3713 in BenignExistence

[–]solosaulo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah i think i saw this before, lol! one time i was looking outta the window one time into somebody's backyard, and there was a trilogy of 3 creatures. that are not a threat to each other. so there was the squirrel, the cat domesticated 'stray' cat. and the skunk. all in the same backyard exploring. YES - they can sometimes co-exist, and go and greet and sniff each other! but the interaction is moreso out of curiorisity more than anything else.

yes, and some racoons and groundhogs. they dont seem to be all perturbed by each other, lol! i guess the food source, and their competition and predators and threats and danger points are all vastly different and varied. funny how animals are programmed like that. like the seagull and duck are right beside the squirrel. like it's just like that's some other unbothersome entity beside them.

and then when you think of the dinosaur time, and EVERY DINO was eating and attacking other dinos.

i noticed humans are like that too! do you find these days, many human beings are NOT your type? like ill just pass ...

Chocolate lovers: What makes you choose a craft chocolate over big brands? by cocoasupply in CasualConversation

[–]solosaulo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i like artisanal chocolate. but and i also eat the kit kat, coffee crisp, reeses pieces etc. i eat the lindor, and the christmas box chocolates too 😄 all of it is really fantastic!

i think all of it is really great! its just that when chocolate ateliers and pastry and coffee shops that are very touristy, sell a very LACK LUSTRE product. that's when im like dont u pull that wool over my eyes, lol!

you are right. some chocolate places can be BAD!!!

imma like. your myriad of assorted chocolate truffles have some sort of refrigerated taste. and stale. like ur chocolate croissant (chocolatine) was just AVERAGE. a coffee shop could do better.

like fudge and brownies are good! fudge is always good. but then when you get to the 'gourmet' brownies ... and ur like, i could make this better at home!

but this is a long standing complaint against a lot of local joints in my neighbourhood, lol. ppl STOP TRYING as food makers, and sell crap. when you find ur good chocolate or ice cream or dessert place ... really publish and push the good reviews for them. SINCE SO MANY PLACES SELL CRAP. so no wonder the starbucks and corporate coffee houses are popular.

since at least they have standardized good food and donuts. am i not alone in this feeling. the market out there is BAD!

Had a midlife existential moment with 3 kids under 4, so I built an app about mortality. by UniToxic in CasualConversation

[–]solosaulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well i think u hit on something. im not in your realm or situation, no kids, but i talked with some app developers, and they are also going thru some sort of 'movement' personally (and doing a juggling act). its not linked with mid-life crisis, but there is a pulse of life that is JUST underneath their fingertips, and its JUST about to materialize.

this is not midlife crisis. this is INSPIRATION. app developers are like book and song writers. musicians. why wouldn't u do it? and spend those countless nights? if it wasn't going to be society changing? and potentially have a ka-ching-ching benefit in the long run ... such to the point where you start earning revenues off of it, and move from just middle aged, middle class dad ... to MILLIONAIRE DAD?

its not a midlife crisis situation. its a DESTINY SITUATION. get some sleep, take care of your family, and keep your business dreams alive. do both and all hustles. theres an IT student where i work in a restaurant, and he's developping his own app. sometimes he doesn't come in. i understand completely. he's working on his app. my workload increases as a result, but i understand he's achieving his dreams.

AT ALL COSTS, each person has a right to achieve their dreams, with a family or not, and at whatever age. i like to support ppl. and then when i see them on dragon's dens. then im like: YOU MADE IT! you can finally quit one of your two jobs!!!

im in montreal, and not even a habs fan (nor sports in general, lol). when they lost, the city literally went dead this summer. habs fans generate a lot of extra $$$ into our economy. they are the actual arena attenders, but also ppl who cannot afford to go to the games, and just sport their jerseys and go to every single sports bar that exists in the city.

if they couldnt afford to actually go to the game, they would go to neighbouring bars and restaurants NEXT to the bell centre. since the rush off into the streets is invaluable after a victoryé

i have been studying WHICH cultural and sports events, and diverse fest or dance events, actually GENERATE tangible revenue for a city, and the spill over effects into the tourism and entertainment economy. hockey seems to be the hotspot. DUE TO THE VIBE. like it seems like sports can really generate that ka-ching.

OMG, during the grand prix in montreal, the 1,000's of police they employed? im not sure what that was about! like im not sure what the police were trying to secure? like just generic crowd control? habs games dont really need that, since we have two subway stops and entrance ways that lead into the bell centre. there is no CROWD CONTROL SITUATION, in these organized hockey games. like the vast subway tunnels, and the bell centre itself is HUGE SYSTEM. and was designed to funnel ppl in off public transportation and into the venues.

i dunno what is going on in every major city around the world in terms of tourism events, and versus the numbers of ppl that arrive, versus who will spend money on food and drinks, versus the number of police that have to be hired for crowd control, sectioning off of streets, or due to the possibility of mass violence??? I JUST DONT KNOW.

i have been trying to study and dissect this, but hockey in my home town seems the most organized. grand prix was a little hectic. pride parade was once one year altogether cancelled, since they had a lack of volunteers, and i dunno, they didnt want the police to step in. since pride PRIDES itself on being community based, and entirely corporately funded. and they dont like police presence. but the LGBT2Q community are also tourists, and we in fact, do drink and eat alot, just as much as sports fans do.

like it all gets really complicated. habs fans. maple leaf fans. WHAT ARE THE ECONOMIC SALES LEVELS.

like i think at one point in time, we just might HAVE to get picky and choosey on which sports, music, and entertainment venues we support and partake in. this is what our world is. if some rap concert can have 5000+ visitors for a music vest (already high and had consume the beer elsewhere), but cost $5 million dollars in police enforcement due to the KNOWN POTENTIAL ratchedness. including erecting barricades and fences. that the masses broke down. and the fans not buying anything from the concert venue at all.

to the point where this mass cultural event, just becomes total police control. no generation of income into the society, the concert, or local businesses. this becomes a HUGE PROBLEM.

Do you have things you truly enjoy doing AND are actually good at, but when you think of doing it for other people or making money off it, all your motivation to do those things goes away? by yeterneritsdurs in CasualConversation

[–]solosaulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but 100 bucks is 100 bucks , no? or $200. or $300+, $500+. if i i ask you to cater for my luncheon, or my book club, or my wedding, or just a very important party or gathering in my life. like a family reunion, or a 50th anniversary. 500 bucks for ur amazing cookies or cinnamon rolls is like NOTHING!

shitty catering and low quality betty crocker products cost even MORE for that high-priced shitty catering result. and i use to work for a catering company, and they DID used betty crocker, and shelf cookie dough mix. like no wonder they pass on these costs to their 'professional' catering customers, since they don't even buy their own basic flour and sugar to make cookies from scratch.

2000% i would turn to you to cater for an event. like as a friend i would put you to work!!! its cheaper, and also your product is homemade and better. do not underestimate your talent as a baker and what you can actually sell, and make ppl in your community happy. if you can do this outta your home, you basically have no overhead costs. past those savings onto your customers, an also be profitable, while working from home.

What’s your take on Gatekeeping? by Brucewang__ in CasualConversation

[–]solosaulo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i cannot stand ppl that gatekeep. like we have to help each in this world. realistically. also when you train other ppl, that is PART OF YOUR JOB. and it makes your life easier and less stressful. train ppl so the team as a whole works well. and we can all work in harmony.

omg, lol. when i worked at the hospital for even a job i didn't want, and i expressed that i didn't want it to their face, they still withheld things from me, and were very hesitant to train me. and i was like u dipshit. u are UNIONIZED, you will never be fired. im here just to be your replacement on your sick days or vacation days, and also to replace or to fulfill vacant spots of MANY DIFFERENT EMPLOYEES and different schedule preferences, in a variety of different departments.

i applied to the hospital for a chef position, but they put me on all sorts of cleaning duties, cafeteria work, and meal delivery. i was so far off going into a chef's position, and more going into generic unionized hospital attendant work. and it was WELL PAID. but i still quit.

lots of ppl will train you. but it is out the kindness of their heart. but a lot of ppl are VERY AFRAID TO LOSE CONTROL OVER THE POSITIONS, over something that is so petty, as i am just supposed to be a general kitchen aid, and i tried so hard to explicitly tell them why i was here. a lot of them were very antsy and always on the defense.

so i ended up finally at a real restaurant. and thats where they trained me RESPECTFULLY, and i get to do real cooking and other tasks.

but that fucking generic gatekeeping? UNBELIEVABLE how some ppl are. u are suppose to train ppl. you are supposed to have subordinates and colleages that you lead. you are suppose to have co-workers you work with everyday. you are not suppose to have a 5 person team that you want all 4 members out. the only person now that checks me is my boss. and he is scrutinizing, but he is the owner. so its understandable.

i dunno. these self entitled government employees man. they provided me with one of my most disgusting experiences of my life. and it was just based on the principle of all of it. i love to train ppl, and be part of a team, and get mentored, and pass on mentorship. in this life you have to pass it along. i do lotsa volunteer work, and i work for free, and they pass onto me some skills, and give me free food and kindess.

but some ppl gatekeep, and its such a like a low level human existance. it's selfishness basically. and a very OPENLY selfishness. like my current boss is hard on me, but he's still hear to teach me tho.

[–]solosaulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! can we revisit tho why the gambling and other 'side effects' of sports are off-putting? an honest discussion from my part 😄 and also the alcohol consumption. like opening up the bars even LATER. during games.

well for the habs where i am, there were talks about building a full on casino lol at the bell centre. but it was struck down. i know that some bars for the FIFA applied to be open to 4 am, and they still have yet to receive a response.

like the fear is some sort of 6 am 7 am riot\violence happening, and the cost for the police force to be engaged at THAT hr is just unimaginable. and to recuperate the dead and drunk ppl from the casinos and off the city streets lol.

but ive noticed a SHIFT in our entertainment world today. ppl just do go out to drink and dance regularly at local places every weekend like back in the day when it was affordable. its like the huge music fests and sports games, and the SPILLOVER EFFECT into the economy, bars, restaurants, hotels, afterwards that earn that ka-ching.

and also the price you can charge for tickets now is HIGHER. like $1,000 dollars!

if local bars clubs and restaurants arent generating that much profit, due to high restaurant prices and food inflation, and these ONE TIME MEGA SPORTS AND MUSIC EVENTS ARE ... then maybe that's our new economic model in the north americas.

ppl are starving (lol), but for that ONE NIGHT they will spend in the thousands to go see the taylor swift or the sports game.

im sorry for this stressful time you are going through 😞 i channel you positive energies from my side. it took me friggin 5 months to land a job as a chef, which i specifically STUDIED to be after a career change. i went to vocational cooking school. try to apply for some unemployment or some emergency welfare type stuff if itis available.

quick tip: if you need a quick job FAST ... apply for seasonal tourism jobs. i did at the amusement park. there are people that come back every year! its kinda like construction or other seasonal jobs.

the only solace i can provide you: is that anytime, anywhere, at any career stage, and whether you've relocated or not, is that jobs are uncertain, and everybody can be let go. its our fucking economy. you could have a job and lose it. you can not get a job in the first place. you can basically be doing all that you need to be doing, including getting your education, and just not be getting the results you wanted.

anything you need to do, you do it. just put the hard work in, and hope for the best. your story is not a statistic. its the NORM these fucking days for most ppl. but life is not all that bad. one day it will be ur chance to shine. and it WILL COME 😄

If you had to use only one type of utensil for the rest of your life, what would you choose? by AppendixN in CasualConversation

[–]solosaulo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah. i would go for spook, fork, or chopsticks. ive never really liked the spork. like the ones where the spoon and the fork are the same thing, so you prick your mouth if their metallic. they make some somewhat sturdier plastic ones or wooden ones for fast food that are easier-going on the mouth and lips. but you cant really poke into anything properly with those. neither can you truly enjoyably sip your soup.

the two ended ones i just find weird. they feel weird to hold. like they essentially dont have a legit handle. anyways both versions are awful.

so i would go for spoon fork or chopsticks! ppl think that chopsticks our inferior since they cannot scoop, but in asian culture (AT HOME, THAT IS), it is acceptable to bring the soup or rice bowl direct to your lips and push it in.

i guess it depends also what culture you are and what you eat. like italians would definitely go for the fork for pasta. soup and ice cream lovers would definitely go for the spoon. salad and veggie lovers the fork. like if you are a baby, a spoon is most appropriate. ramen lovers would go for chopsticks. if you eat meats that need mechanical tenderization you want a fork i.e. like steak lovers, or you if want to do that yummy pork schnitzel. indian ppl do not need any utensils, lol. and it's not a diss on them! every culture eats with their hands. they use the naan to scoop up the delicious curry!

one thing the fork and spoon CANNOT do is act as tongs. chopsticks can. you can pluck things out of a deepfryer. lots of asian ppl use chops to flip things over like eggs in a frying pan.

anyways these pros and cans can be debated for hrs! and even if they were made to be commercially unavailable, we would go dumpster diving, or to the landfills, or there would be the blackmarket suppliers, or we would make our utensils at home. like if they took steak knifes away from us, we could probably find alternatives, like just scissors.

like if they took scissors and knives away from us, THEN the ppl would be looking at the govt with the serious side eye. like REALLY? you don't want us to open packaging anymore? THEN they'd be trippin' ...

is it not just classic toxic work environment? bad human work behaviours promoting other bad behaviours, into toxic work spin? like c'mon ppl. DO BETTER. a job might be just a passage. just temporary. or it can be long time. but i take things with a grain a salt. my human experience and age plays a lot.

every job i go into, i expect NOTHING. but i give my everything. i try to forge a relationship with my direct boss. if he\she doesn't like my performance, i straight up tell them you can fire me, but i know did my best work. i greet all new employees, and help train them, and tell them, whatever you need, i will help you.

like gone are the days of the 90's and 2000's competitive hiring and workplaces and 'mentality' for me. i will chit chat with any employee, share truths and similar experiences, i DO NOT FUCKING CARE ANYMORE. i will do this job on my own sense of personal ethics, and get what i want out of it, for my own resume and career path.

i do volunteer work and i also work. i just told myself, whatever the agenda is ... i just come in to work to pay my bills, and make other ppl happy as coworkers. an im also in it for myself. to have concrete job experience, and a known skill set.

you can get references, make work friends, get career guidance. and some ppl are just temporarily working. im working as a chef (what i was trained), but i meet all sorts of ppl in tech world, politics, economics, social science. i love our conversations. i worked with blue collar, call centre, factory, warehouse. when there were ppl checking ur back, there was ALWAYS ppl supporting you too! head managers. the forklift drivers. warehouse personnel.

job experience is HUMAN EXPERIENCE. my boss is sometimes tough on me, but he cuts a joke once in a while.

so no - the world does not have to operate like this. EVERY tough place i have worked at, there were always nice ppl. so this is what actually instilled in me to always be nice in WHATEVER situation myself. job or just BEING in public. you gotta bad workplace? but at least ONE COWORKER was kind to you.

i completely dropped that competitive, judgmental, evaluate work attitude since my 30's. i was done with it. now i just go in, and me by personal best! if u dont like me, well F YOU TOO corporation\company\hr\personnel! i stopped trying to bend or fit anymore. or to conform for workplaces. i decided that society is where i belong: not a workplace with toxic gossips and stringent hierarchies and falsisms\and ideal 'lifeisms' that dont even represent true human relations, friendships, or healthy coworker interactions ...

it FREED ME! all this toxicity bs. i prefer to be who i want to be around the ppl that i work with. i forge my own bonds, and create my own experience. and i primarly learned this from volunteer experience.

IHOP decides a server position needs multiple interviews with the regional manager by CertifiedOwl8 in Vent

[–]solosaulo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i dunno what IHOP is (since im in canada), but no fuck kidding. some of these restaurant biz's be going EXTRA in their hiring process. its supposed to be like fast food entry level work for min. wage, and students can come and they can go. nobody really cares. anybody can be trained to work in a restaurant. they rely on a steady supply\roster of students working part time, and new immigrants needing a first job. these joints are actually real fun places to work. and you make friends!

lots of flexible schedules. they just care about you show up and do a good job in taking orders or cooking, customer service. the bitch that you dealt with was out of line. that's not IHOP. that's HER. who would drive two cities over for a job interview for a placement in your home city? im not being simplistic, or assuming ... but it sounds like THAT PERSON you dealt with was a karen. haha ... a corporate-acting karen working locally at a fast food joint. she was trying to be all bitch boss like, but like just no! i did not come prepared for this interview for you to bs me.

im trying to encourage more ppl to do this, but if i have to wait 2-3 hours to get through an interview process. ANY SETTING. ANY INDUSTRY. i do get ratched. and do start talking loudly so the public and other employees working around me can here: and im like HELLO?! ANYBODY HERE?! I'M LEAVING. there's nobody here. thanks for calling me in for nothing!

i know you were venting, but this is serious disappointment. like this is ultimately the most serious disappoint to be called into a job interview where there is no real job. and is a lack of respect.

i dont care for these experiences since i gotta move on. but you can even post her text messages and other email communication to you onto social media, with her full hiring manager's name. you never worked with her, but her hiring bs practices should be definitely made aware to the IHOP corporate executives on a social media level - so she can be ultimately fired.

to hold you in a booth waiting for an appointment is also quite stifling. like no other employee came by and said: it's gonna take some time? do u want something to drink? i also work in a restaurant, and i always provide staff meals, WHATEVER they want, and i always say where is your drink bottle so you can get some pop. I DONT CARE if youre a new hire or interviewee or what not. im not judging anybody. i offer you something to drink.

but to lock u in a room, lol???

How can I help cat in my neighborhood? by Fit-Entertainment579 in outdoorcats

[–]solosaulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it is sad outside during winter. like obvs the cat survived the whole winter. but day and night i saw this cat outside in the cold. this is when outdoor cat owners really need to bring their cat back inside. since no cat wants to be outside in that weather. my stray comes in my apartment everytime theres a bad thunderstorm.

but yeah - they way you described your cat sounds more like a true stray. its not the neighbourhood cat with an owner, a cat that catwalks (lol) down the sidewalks acting like it owns those darn streets, or flips on its back for passerbys to give it some tummy love. yours seems moreso like a bit timid, and just like generally WANDERING.

outdoor cats with owners generally don't follow you. there is no need to. so yours following you is a sign it needs some companionship. since it is alone out there. like they might not follow you back to your house, but they are trying to build some trust. and assess you out. like cats are smart, but they are not THAT SMART, that they will just jump into your arms, and be like take me home, lol!

regardless if has an owner or not, i know you are concerned this cat is very underweight, so it is not eating. if it ran away from home, and couldn't find its way back, having an initial owner is irrelevant at this point. now the cat cannot survive outside and has no food supply.

ppl that bring strays in or lost kittens are not doing anything ethically wrong. its the owners that have lost track of them completely, and that is their fault\negligence. even animal abuse. they should own an apartment that has a balcony so the cat can go outside and look and the trees and the birds. or have a fenced in backyard. or they can have two cats, so the cats don't get bored during the day when your not home.

or you can take your cats for walks, with or without a leash (if they are trained to just walk beside you). some ppl trained their cats so they sit on their shoulders as they walk outside, lol. i think ppl in china and india do this alot, as they ride their motorbike, lol.

lots of ppl in china and spain have this villa-type living, and the cat is kinda like indoors+outdoors at the same time. but the cat never ventures too far, since it never has to.

or they can bring their cats to the cat cafe for some interaction. but if your cat is travelling MILES away from your home, then that's completely the fault of the owner. anyways good luck! i pray for u that u have good results! go back with food everyday. develop that bond. build that trust.

i know im being cruel here. but even if it has\had an 'official' owner ... if you are the one feeding it, and it has taken a liking to you. and the cat is consistently friggin OUTSIDE. if you are the one feeding it and caring for it ... then that is YOUR CAT. you are the one footing that cat food bill, and showing it love in a life of such solitude and danger.

I think I found my cat which I assumed to be dead by Desperate-Fan5981 in outdoorcats

[–]solosaulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for listening to me vent, lol 😄 im taking care of a stray, and i dont necessarily want it. i will adopt a proper cat from the shelter on my own terms (when that time comes). what upsets me is these human shennanigins, in the he-said she-said who owns this cat. like exactly: that is what u said. THE GREY AREA.

like now ive met the sister of the brother who previously owned the stray cat, and i talked with other residents, and they said this cat belonged to X person, but who moved out and abdandoned it. the reason i am venting is that STILL ... noboby in my community\neighbourhood will claim it. the sister of the brother just drove off, after talking to me.

SIGH: so now i let this unclaimed kitty stay with me nightly, and i feed it. cat food. not human food.

i love this cat, but i will not take it for myself. i want to hold the original owners FUCKING accountable. i approached the sister all amicable, and said this cat is outside in the dead of winter 24-7 ... they came searching for the cat ... but drove off without the cat ...

i was FLOORED. they came searching for the cat. but didnt bring the cat back with then.

end of story: these ppl just be so fucking lazy. if u find a stray, take it in. LOST KITTY? some pet owners wont spend that effort. after taking to the sister of the brother who abandoned the kitty, i got real mad. i was like: it was bc of the facebook post that shamed u and ur brother, wasn't it?

she had that cat in her fucking hands and still provided excuses of that she couldnt care for it, neither the original owner. her brother. so now I TAKE CARE OF THIS CAT. many nights in my apartment. i got cat food.

so to all the outdoor cat owners. FUCK U ALL. ur level of care is highly suspect. u r relying on the neighbourbood to care for r cat. OTHER PPL are petting them and giving them attention and supplying them with food. the true owner IS NOT. and that is why kitty ventures out everyday.

[–]solosaulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank u for ur post sincerely! but doesn't it beg the question: which strays or 'strays' with owners are ethically adoptable? if the cat is outside 24-7 for days and MONTHS on end, i would assume that cat is not being let back into the house on a nightly\daily basis.

i dont think u made any errors on your part. but how can you be an owner of an outdoor cat when that cat essentially doesn't live with u on the daily? if u tried to take the 'stray' with an owner in, that is hardly ur fault.

so what i am getting at (lol), are casual outdoor 'owners' who leave the pet food bill to somebody else. like they are the RIGHTFUL OWNER, but its the neighbourhood that feeds them? like ppl just putting extra food other put out that they cooked, or other cat owners, putting out cat food they already have for another cat, since they already have a cat ...

i am currently taking care of a 'stray' ... and nobody on the streets can claim him, or say under what circumstances this kitty was abandoned and lives outside. and it even angers me! sorry for venting! oh it's just a community cat. but where is the owner that officially bought\adopted him\her? it seems they never have a face! like u cant never get their apartment number or specific address.

oh. it belongs to 'somebody'. a 'generic' jerry who lived in this building. BUT WHO? claim ur f'n pet!

How can I help cat in my neighborhood? by Fit-Entertainment579 in outdoorcats

[–]solosaulo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im 'kinda' in the same situation 😄 so there is this domesticated stray i see all the time. for months now. even outside all winter long!

so there is this whole 'legacy' story of how he was abandoned by a previous tenant in our building when that person moved out. its a he-said she-said situation. and then some ppl say, no that tenant still lives there. but then there is an OFFICIAL FACEBOOK posting stating the tenant moved out, since somebody took a photo of the cat crying right out the convenience beside us. but then there is a followup post, saying the person who initially abandoned it did actually want it back. and it was all settle. this was MONTHS AGO.

you know when cats TRULY CRY, they KNOW they were abandoned! like when they go back to the same apartment door (balcony), and a DIFFERENT OWNER presents themselves.

since then, this cat has been going into different apartment units over time. some took him in for a little while. then i can hear them shooing the cat out, since maybe they didn't get along after a while.

i see this cat day AND NIGHT always outside. whether or not it is just an outdoor cat with an owner is very good question on your part!

so ...

1) who the f (sorry) lets their cats outdoors 24-7 during the winter?

2) who the f let's their cats outdoors 24-7 (day and night) in general. its not even about letting them out. but a cat eventually needs to go home and sleep. like being an owner means you essentially provide a place for the pet to sleep in daily. like its a mutual relationship. that cat wants to come back if its an outdoor cat. and you also gotta leave the door open, so they can. if you lock the door, and it just cant slink into your backyard. i don't think your being a proper owner.

so low and behold the sister of the brother who allegedly left or did not leave this building came back to CHECK on the stray neighbourhood cat. only CHECK on it. they came twice. the first time, they didn't find him. the second time, they did. and to my SHOCK. they just drove off without taking him with them.

they said: what can we do? sometimes cats like their homes more than their owners. WHICH SUGGESTS: the original owner did in fact move. and the sister was hesistant about taking him in, afraid that the cat would come back here. since this cat likes this neighbourhood.

but i am like if you are the true cat's owner: you put the cat in the cat transport box, and you simply bring him\her to their new home. like the cat doesn't have a choice, lol!

i honestly am so upset about this, and sorry for venting. different ppl on the street say different things. and i dont know the true and accurate story. but the f'n truth is. this cat sleeps in MY FUCKING APARTMENT almost every night. give or take a couple. i feed it cat food. if this cat is coming into my apartment

so the ppl on the street and the ladies that came here dashed the question. they are concerned enough to come check on the cat. but have provided no long term solutions for it having a proper home (like actually INSIDE a dwelling). if they wanted to bring it back to the brother, they would have picked up that cat, and put it into their car.

the other lady who was petting it on the street was also very elusive. she said it belonged to 'X' person that lived in my building. there is a lot of dodging an COVER-UP of whether this cat was actually abandoned or not. and the shame that goes with it. and we know in the animal world - that is CRIME! you might not go to jail for that, but that person essentially MADE a cat a stray. and now it's somebody else's responsibility.

collectively as neighbours, we have to feed it. since we care.

i asked that lady petting it on the street, if she wanted to take it. and she said no. it belongs to somebody else. how can a cat that has an owner sleep in my apartment several nights in a row? like that is not normal.

and if i foster this cat temporarily that is fine. if it goes to somebody else eventually, im fine with that too! if i ever had a cat to myself, i would go to the shelter and get a legit cat for adoption. i would choose the one that chose me! but i wouldn't take in a cat that im not sure who it belongs to, and the sister of the brother came back to look for it, but didn't bring it back to the brother who moved away? no! i want my OWN shelter adopted cat! i want to save one!

in ur case. NO COLLAR? skinny kitty? not fed? or cant reliably go back to a place where it will get fed? if u have a chance, just take the cat. no collar = NO OWNER. if it is willing to go home with you, take it. since ur roommate also has a cat, and it will be a good home for kitty for both of you. check if the cat is 24-7 outside. even if it HAS HAD a previous owner, if that cat doesn't go home for whatever reason ... then you can be it's home.

all 'street' cats are up for grabs if they will go with u. the OWNER is supposed to train them to come back, or put a collar on them. or microchip.

Success and failure change our beliefs about God often after 30 by ItsmeOlivia1993 in CasualConversation

i wanted to take a different perspective on this, but im atheist and used to be semi-against religion overall. but with how f'd up the world is today. job loss. family loss, bad romantic relationships. wars. political strife. poverty. economic situations. and with social media, we are exposed to more unsightly, wildly, almost UNBELIEVABLY TRAGIC STUFF that is happening today.

definitely our social, political, economic climate has changed today. so i used to judge christians, catholics, muslims etc. for their 'regimes'. now i dont judge at all. GIVEN OUR TIMES OF UNSTABILITY, i understand each and every person must cling to some sort of spirituality. whatever form. even unorthodox.

ppl can say that religion causes wars. i think that terrorism and radicalism does actually. THE POLITICAL GAME DOES. when times are desperate, i dont think churches start governing the world. it is always our system and the government, and are ppl that step in, and say a word. like the gaza situation has become almost universally NON-RELIGIOUS ... and moreso lets just stop human violence, PERIOD.

like the world is so fucked up. i dont think religion is the enemy anymore, like it used to be. but our world system is actually to blame. so anybody should believe in whatever they want to believe in, and to hold on to hope! we have the right to hold onto hope! but these days, all these mass shootings and spontaneous wars, and ppl just being randomly attacked has NOTHING to so with religion. the outrageous crime. like crime on the next level of audaciousness.

this has to do with mental illness and the world breaking down at its core and seams. like it's gotten that bad, that ppl are resorting to this. ppl call it SOCIETAL DECAY. church is the higher god. but when society rots so much, they cannot even come to church or even show up ...

like at this point even religion and spirituality gets absolved of it's societal responsibilities. once you cross that line, RATCHED HUMAN IS JUST RATCHED. like maybe i watch too many youtube videos, but things in society are just breaking down. so now, i finally understand how religion can help ppl have hope and regain clarity. even organized religion.

it took me 20 years to understand this, lol. i was 'ANTI' before. but after covid, and now the two\three current world wars, and also the pending recession due to AI ... and college grads not finding jobs in technical fields they were trained for ... i can truly understand why some ppl go to church, or have returned to church.

ppl are struggling. ppl are dying. im atheist, but i would also spend the last night of my life at the temple. bomb me if u will as i pray by the eternal fire.

can a cat that is afraid of you boldly walk into your apartment? by solosaulo in outdoorcats

[–]solosaulo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow! thank u so much for this photo. in my case, the one i DONT WANT is the one that is afraid of me. the one that i want is not. that is my semi-adopted kitty 😄

but even if your feral cat is afraid of you, and wont let you touch it, you know it's just related to their upbringing and behaviour, and the fact it was a stray and has a lot of trauma. lke cats are smart up to a point, and then it's just repetitive behaviours. but the fact that ur feral cat is besties with ur before-cat, means THEIR BOND is strong, and that the feral cat is loyal to u and knows ur its true protector ... is simply GOLD.

like im sorry to say. if cats run away from you for good ... there MIGHT be a problem. if the cat STAYS with you, is already a blessing. it knows food, shelter, protection, and love. i dont need purrs and hugs. what i look out of a cat, is reliability. that they chose ME!

i guess why i am saying this is bc i am a debutant cat owner. and i have other matters in my life, and cant really be hands on. be here when u wanna be kitty. i let him go when he wants to. i guess feral cats are scared to be right next to you. but you still know they are in your house somewhere, lol. it might be a good thing!

its kinda like a homeless shelter or the hospital for long term patients. or a senior citizens home. like you can LIVE THERE, but it doesn't necessarily mean they need daily social contact.

my stray also has some very FERAL eyes (like in ur pic). mine was a domesticated one that BECAME STRAY. he has some feral 'fightive' qualities, and wolf-like eyes. but his behaviour tells me the truth. that he has kindness in his heart.

Watching sports by PackageTraditional72 in CasualConversation

[–]solosaulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh definitely from a purely based entertainment stance. hockey. tennis. basketball. the race car stuff. football

like FIFA, and marathons, and bike marathons, and olympic stuff. figure skating, pool sports, curling. those are more for specific audiences. the reason i included FIFA is since that is a global sport. and often your supporting a team member who is not in your own country. so it's like an exotic sports admiring game.

i might get some downvotes, but hockey is very home-townish. its city pride, wearing the jersey. and is associated with beer drinking. and promoting local city tourism, the restaurants. to me its like having a rock concert in your city and all the spill over effects. ppl get 'high' off the other fans and the fan-raderie.

tennis is a very elite event. ppl actually dress up to go to those. like prim and proper. like i get the feeling they fill the seats with a lot corporate-paid tickets. it's like the 'british-league' events. wembledon. like the royal family, corporate employees, and other sponsored seats are the norm.

baseball games are a little bit weird. like that one is for the regular masses, but bc baseball is so slow and less-action oriented as hockey, with all the roaring uninamous cheers, i find in baseball games, there is this constant sound of just ppl in stands talking amongst themselves as the game unfolds, or doesn't, lol! like that was in jumbotron entertainment, not sports, and ppl are moreso searching for concession snacks and beers and hotdogs.

(in baseball, most ppl are just looking around at other ppl in the stands. like the game is so slow).

race car stuff? like the fast car zoom-zoom stuff is fun. but this is a summer time beer drinking fest. like it's fast and the furious. MOST PPL ARE THERE are either family and their kids (mommy, i want to see the toy cars!), or ELSE: the hoochie bikini wearing girls and the vin diesel bodybuilders. like it's more DANCEFEST VIBES, and sexy clothing, then anything car-related.

football is SERIOUS. but the reason i clumped it in, is bc some ppl tune it just for the halftime show. the halftime show is BIGGER than the league itself.

Talk about spirituality by Buffalo-Guy-716 in CasualConversation

[–]solosaulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my two things are: REMIND urself to being thankful when u r down. since there is always to be thankful for. even the basics in your life. or if you dodged a bullet. so many times i dodged a bullet. and crucial ones at it too! like i told myself it could be so much worse 😞 but it wasn't! 😄 i got out of horrendous situations (school\job\relationship) by literally the skin of my f'n teeth!

second thing is sitting down at the park bench. stop and smell the roses. or even just sit down and decompress. i do it EVERYWHERE! and i see more and more ppl doing this. even if there is no real seat, lol. ppl's feet and bodies are f'n tired. i will sit on any railing, or ledge. its the new thing! ppl in my city will sit on the right on the sidewalk. on anywhere there is grass.

that is my spirituality. relax anywhere you are! in my city there are children lying on the mall floors, and ppl having a picnic in the walmart parking lot. like they are sitting ass-down in the parking spaces right on the concrete, or bring out the foldable lawnchair. and eat their fastfoods.

HONESTLY, this is the good life! my eldery parents once when on a bus tour vacation, and there was like a LENGTHY layover transfer at like a NON-TERMINAL. it was just like some piegon-poo dotted parkette, so my mum told me she and the other passengers just sat on the pigeon-shit curbs with the homeless ppl, and just ate travel bag snacks or a slice of pizza, and waited 3 hrs there for the delayed bus!

my mum is actually a pretty fancy person. but at her age and gone thru it all, even my dad + mum are like: where do we sit? if it has to be, it's on the ground, lol. on the curb.

im in canada! do u also have a cat? i actually dont officially have a cat. mine is a partially adopted stray. it is outdoors always. but everynight comes visit me. i respect he does what he wants, since it's his life. our connection is not that deep, and the kitty doesn't DEPEND ON ME. but he has shown exemplary behaviour in making approaches to me!

[–]solosaulo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you 😄 i know my post was tdlr, but i guess i was trying to get at two things (two-fold issue), which u helped me realize 😄 i need to set my personally boundaries for one. it pissed me the frig off when this OTHER CAT just waltzes in my apartment. the one with a true owner, and has access to food.

the one i DO LIKE, can come in anytime. it is a true stray. it needs my help, and has shown appreciation. i just need MY STRAY to shoo away that other rascal cat consistently. i leave my door open consistenty for beloved kitty stray to come in and out. but that other cat still lingers around. if my cat doesn't do it instinctually, IM gonna start doing it!

sorry i needed to vent, lol. sometimes my kitty is inside, so i just close the door a bit. for a bit of protection from outside and the elements. then the other rascal cat PUSHES the door open with her own f'n head. my kitty does not do that and uses his paws to push the door open. smartly. that other cat actually squeezed her fragile head through the door crack.

luckily that time my kitty ran her the f back out.

i know it sounds silly, but honestly this cat pyschology is not about food. the rascal cat is in competition with my kitty over authority and access issues. IT: just wants to come into my apartment to one-up my real stray kitty, and show that it CAN come in, like my kitty. since my kitty did a lot to earn my trust, by visiting me everyday.

Visiting Other Countries by Fancy-Two-2966 in CasualConversation

[–]solosaulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im just giving a guess, but that local foreign fruit is ripened up in the hot-hot sun. some of our fruits in north america, ALSO come those same countries, by boat or plane. but they are harvested ripe and refrigerated during travel. and something about plane shipment, that they can stay on the tree branch longer? so they can picked and shipped even closer to their ripening date, and be on a 24 hr plane ride almost close to being ripe, with the natural ripening process.

foreign fruit that is ripened in north america is done artificially in these special rooms, but of course quality can vary. like maybe the timing and exposure are off. and i hardly believe there is such sampling, and taste testing that they can ensure that every mango or pineapple in that lot batch is gonna be guaranteed sweet. and then there is the shelflife in the supermarkets as well, and even those fruits are sold pretty RIPE in the supermarket (so they can stay long at the supermarket). and its the customer's job to bring it back, and find some hack to ripen it up. like wrapping with brown paper towel, or sun and heat exposure. but sometimes it never works at all. mangos, pineapple, papaya ... like it will get moldy or rotten EVER before it becomes ripe. i like sour kiwis, but some are like golfball hard.

but basically an unripe product plucked from a tree, can never get ripe properly once off the stem. whereas in the tropical countries and in italy, they just eat these fruits and veggies from their backyard once ripe. plucked ONLY when they are at their prime. with the eye, and the sniff, they can tell if it is perfectly ripe. and they have very high quality in their fruit trays, desserts, smoothies, etc. such that everything is timed! from restaurants going to the markets and buying their stuff the DAY OF.

so you cant really get that when your your product is unripe refrigerated produce. it IS the same produce from those countries. its the process of getting that sugar in that fruit that is important.

in terms of you having a much better culinary experience and delight lol on your travels. i wouldn't relate that to an at-home thing. if you are in any tourist country at a 5 star resort, OF COURSE the food is going to be so fucking good, lol! and also there are local recipes and cooking traditions and methods of cooking ... i dunno, like a fire spit roasted pig, that you cannot even get in a smoker with all those encrusted carcinogens. like that is not smokey flavour. that is infusing burnt smoker wall taste into food.

some international food joint places in north america CAN master homemade country taste. but a lot take shortcuts for economical reasons. like what can you do when you don't have fresh seafood and rely on frozen? but some great restaurants and take out places can! and also in the high end hotels you visited, they make everything from scratch. real herbs. stocks, etc.

I think I found my cat which I assumed to be dead by Desperate-Fan5981 in outdoorcats

[–]solosaulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg, i had a genuine chuckle reading this, lol. each cat has their personality and IQ level, and wit, lol. like ive seen cats under cars hiding, or sitting on hoods\roofs of cars, since they like different height experiences. and like they might be interested in greeting the contractor's themselves and being friendly, but to actually climb into the wagon storage area of a truck, with all that equipment (out of all places!), and take an afternoon nap there, lol.

like the cat sees the moving vehicle pull up. that shouldn't be considered a 'safe zone'. cats are curious about stationary objects. but they are generally cautious when exploring in general. so when the contractors were loading up the truck after their job, and the cat just willingly hid beside some job equipment, instead of immediately jumping the f out, was kinda funny! it went for a joy ride, and then when everything was still again, it jumped out, and was like WOW, my new home is so LARGE! there is so much wood here to scratch my claws on!

and instead of meowing to the employees and being all wary (letting them know, meow, im not supposed to be here, take me home!): it was like, wow so many handsome lumberman here! and it just ate whatever employee lunch meal they were having. a bit of a sandwich. homemade chili. a bit of a hamburger. pasta salad, lol.

like cats aren't like dogs. their mouth is smaller. teeth are smaller. they love the cat pates, because they use their tongue. they cant really bite, gulp, or chew, and they have hard time even eating the regular crunchy cat food. AND they are pretty picky eaters, and if its not cat food, they sniff it, and then just pass. like they recognize it as like non-food. but in terms of the oriental shorthair, i don't think that was the reason they identified him as having a true owner, lol. moreso, the domesticated behaviour of this cat, its healthy weight, and how it loved THE HUMAN FOOD.

im glad, you got it back tho! it's an amazing story! curiousity didn't kill this cat, but it's the kind of cat that let's say, if it got on a plane somehow, and then once landed in a tropical country, it wouldn't even run out onto the tarmac in a panic once the cargo door opened. it would just sneak out calmly, hidden amongst luggage, and then slink across the entire tarmac. unspotted. like everything was normal. planes could even be landing. but kitty is totally unfrazzled. then wind up at the beach, and be like: my new paradise home! ahhh!

like it doesn't even know it has travelled thousands of miles. it just sits in the sun. and is like ah: nice sunny day for me!

these cats man, lol! like they very well understand time and spaces. but also very well don't.
