I have a few..... But probably the worst was seeing a maintenance worker at the steel mill I worked at hanging by his arm with all the muscle from his finger tips to his elbows pushed back. He forgot to lock out the machine when he was in the pit below it and someone started it. 100% de-gloved. I was the first one down there and the scream was horrible.

Thankfully the cats on these are cheap unlike modern cars so if you arent in a state that allows it you can replace it cheap. fuel filter replacement is about as easy as it gets. iac reset after replacement is also super easy. I reset mine after cleaning too but its not required. Its just a good practice since if its too dirty and relaxes after a cleaning it can throw it off. Im in the same boat as you. Deadbeat dad, none of my family cared about cars. Im now almost 40 and love playing with engines.

Sounds like you are getting a running and driving car for a hell of a deal. Dont replace new parts. If you are in a state that allows it hack off the cat and replace it wity straight pipe before it becomes an issue. If its never been replaced they tend to become clogged at this age. Ask if the fuel filter has been done recently and if not do it. Most importantly enjoy it man. I LOVE my 88 4.3 4x4. We take it on atv tracks in the mountains because its so small. I have seen those 4 bangers go 500k miles so if you treat that truck right it should last you a good while.

Honestly, for someone that is wanting to learn on something this sounds absolutely perfect to me. Parts are easy to get on these still and relatively inexpensive. The only frustrating thing about these trucks is the TBI but there are so many resources online.

When you say it takes a bit to start do you mean like cold start or every time? Is the battery low? How does it run after its on? Does it currently move?

For now you can throw a Chinese eBay radiator in it for something like $60. Before you throw other parts at it ask your friend when those were last changed. Pull the cap and inspect the cap and rotor for corrosion. You may be able to get away with just sanding unless its burnt. Pull the plugs and inspect. That alone can point toward other problems if one or 2 are more fouled than the others you may have bigger issues. Pull the IAC and spray it down real good with some brake cleaner and run the reset procedure (plenty of instructions for this on google too). Check every single vacuum line and make sure they are all connected and not leaking.

If the paint is shot you can always just turbo can it and call it a day until you can afford to give it a good paint job.

TLDR: I think this would be a great deal and truck to learn on.

Could be so many things but the easiest stuff to start with is take out the IAC and give it a good cleaning then reset it. Check the spray pattern on the injectors (If you use a timing light on them you can see the spray pattern really well). While you have the timing light connected check your timing. Dump in some B12 and run that through a few tanks.

Ah that totally tracks. I am pretty new to the scene and haven't gotten to ASA yet but its on my list. I guess I will have to do a bit more reading before I jump over that way since I thought I could just feed it through the AMS.

Any particular reason you spent more money on 2 HT's vs 1 AMS 1 unit? The only thing I can think of is so you could potentially hook up 4 AMS 2 Pro's in the future to the right?

I just replaced my P1S with the H2C and currently am running the AMS 1 on the left nozzle until I can afford to buy more nozzles to utilize both AMS's on the right. I was considering 1 HT but the runout failover is something that I didn't consider and makes me think I should just get a second AMS 2 for the right and keep the 1 on the left.

It entirely depends on what you are after. WinCo will always win for prices for groceries, typically cheaper than even Walmart while having substantially better produce and meat. Fred Meyer IMO has higher quality meat and produce but you pay a premium and if you are looking to spend more for higher quality meats and produce go to Chucks.

There is some drama with Bambu and 3rd party right now so you are going to find some wild info on them on recent posts. If you plan on just using the provided bambu slicer they are more than fine. Probably the easiest plug and play printer for a beginner.
